The SpaceThe accommodation is located in a spacious property within 2 minutes from the beach and sea.
There are 2 chalets within the property. The chalets each have a double bed, attached bathroom, fan and airconditioning unit and we provide toiletries and towels. Coffee and water are provided daily.
The sea is within view from the property and sunrises are best viewed from this side of the area (we have 3 covered areas whee to sit and enjoy the view). Pulau Tiga (Survivor Island) can also be seen right in front. During low tide it makes you think you can just walk over!
The facilities we offer are basic, and are more for the adventurous, backpacker-types, who aren't afraid of little critters like geckos, lizards, squirrels or millipedes (little gentle creatures) which guests may sometimes come across, or being woken up by the sound of bird calls in the morning. Guest AccessThere is broadband internet in our area, and can be made available upon discussion with us.
We have a convenience store in the premises or, if we don't have what you want, the shops are only 10 mins away.
Guests may use our kitchennette, shared if there are other guests who wish to use it, but long term guests may have exclusive use of it. It is next to an open dining area which has a sea view. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, gas cooker and kitchen utensils. Interaction with GuestsWe think we have an advantage over large establishments because we can offer personalised attention to guests since we only take in limited guests.
As owners, we live on the premises and are available 'on call ' any time. While we respect our guests' privacy, we interact with our guests as much as possible and to make sure they are comfortable while they are with us, and to chat with them. The NeighborhoodThe area is quiet and the locals are friendly - just smile and say 'hello' and they will respond, and maybe that will start a conversation!
Best of all, we will show you to the 'best-kept secret' beaches in Kuala Penyu where you may find that you are the only person/people there! Getting AroundThere is no public transportation system going into our area.
The best option (and we highly recommend it) would be to hire a car (or motorbike) from Kota Kinbalu as some of our guests have done . It is possible to arrange for car hire at the airport, so that you can come and go as you please (to get to the better beaches, for meals, for sight-seeing etc)
However, if the need arises, we will try our best to arrange for transportation for our guests. Transportation charges are as follows:
1) Pick-up from Kayul (Kuala Penyu drop-off point ) on arrival by bus from Kota Kinabalu : RM20 per trip
2) Send to Kayul to catch bus to Kota Kinabalu : RM20 per trip
3) Trip to town for shopping/meals etc : RM10 per trip Other Things to NoteThere are 3 beaches to chose from - Beach 1 is the closest to us, within walking distance (2 mins). Beach 2 is 20 minutes away (by car) and Beach 3 is 30 minutes away.
We are unable to cook meals for guests, but they can use our kitchenette to prepare their own meals. If it is convinenient for both parties, we can arrange for transportation to town to buy vegetables, fruits and other sundries which may not be available in our own convenience store.
If guests prefer to eat out, there ia a restaurant less than 4km away, or 4 - 5 mins by car - which opens between 3pm - 10pm.
As mentioned beforehand , being in a village setting, we consider the standard of our accommodation and facilities at backpackers' level as it is quite basic. We don't have hot water, bathtub, restaurant or the things that hotels provide, but we do have clean sheets, towels. treated water, electricity, clean air and relatively quiet and peaceful sleep.
