The SpaceSandwiched between Japan's largest lake and the mountains of Shiga, and in a lovely garden setting, this house offers a truly unique rural retreat and is the perfect place to relax while sightseeing and travelling in Japan.
Also very convenient for somewhere so rural, less than a 5 minute walk from the local train station, which itself, is only 40 minutes by JR local train from Kyoto station.
The house can comfortably fit 6 people. There are two bedrooms and an additional room which can easily be used for sleeping extra guests if needed. Guest AccessThe guest house has it's own fully equiped kitchen, washing machine, bath and shower, and deck with access to the large and secluded surrounding garden with pond, wild flowers, herbs (free for using in the kitchen), and wildlife. There are also chickens, a rabbit, and two very friendly goats.
Guests also have access to a canoe and 4 life vests, snorkeling gear, and bikes to explore nearby beaches, go to the local shops, or cycle to one of the many hiking trails in the area. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the adjacent house so will be close by to give any advice or help to make your stay trouble free and memorable. The NeighborhoodLovely, family-friendly beach and stunning mountains. For those who enjoy outdoor sports, there is Biwako Valley ski resort just 20 minutes away by local bus. And in summer, the cable car provides a great day out on the summit of Mt Hira.
A beach club next door also offers many marine sports and activities in the summer months.
A five minute bus ride away there is also an onsen resort (Hira Topea) and excellent hiking trails.
In the village there is also small local general store, and a popular Hawaiian-style lakeside restaurant (currently closed for rebuilding after a fire). There are a number of other small local places to eat out, which we can give you details of when you arrive.
There is also a 24-hour convenience store about 10 minutes bike ride away. Getting AroundThe JR train station (Hira, Kosei line) is only 5 minutes walk away. Buses from the train station also go to the popular hiking spots, the local onsen resort, and the nearby ski resort of Biwako Valley.
We also have bicycles available for guests and a canoe if you prefer to travel in a more relaxing manner. Other Things to NoteThere is a tree house in the garden and lots of local wildlife. As mentioned above there are also a number of other domestic animals (goats, chickens and a rabbit).
