The SpaceThe two-story apartment consists of a balcony that looks west onto Mombasa Island, giving it spectacular views of the sunset over Mombasa town. Additionally, the high elevation and open-air hallway outside of the flat offers equally impressive views of Mombasa to the north and south, accompanied by a refreshing, cross-ventilating breeze.
Your room is located on the second story of the apartment and comes equipped with a queen-sized bed and air conditioning. You have access to a full bathroom immediately outside of the room, and a half bathroom is also available on the first floor. The room also has plenty of shelf and closet space, a couple of bedside tables, a study table, and an armchair. Guest AccessYou'll have access to all communal areas in the flat. This includes the balcony, a spacious living room, a connected dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, and spaces to wash and dry clothes. There's a washing machine available to use, though its relatively, em, basic. Otherwise, a cleaner usually cleans the flat 1-2 times a week who should be able to wash your clothes as well.
If you're a smoker, please refrain from smoking in the house; smoking on the balcony is fine, though. Interaction with GuestsI'm working with a couple of organizations here on the island, both less than 2 km away from the building. Work usually keeps me pretty busy during the day, so it can, at times, be difficult for me to be as available and responsive to your needs as I would like to be. That being said, should you have any questions or need any help, I'll do my best to get back to you in a timely fashion or connect you with people who can help you get what you need. And, while I'm keen on maintaining my privacy to some degree, I also love socializing, going out for a bite, or spending a night in to catch a movie after work. The NeighborhoodMombasa Island is relatively small and easy to get around. Given that you'll be in the centre of the city, most places you visit will be a short walk or tuk tuk (rickshaw) ride away. Off the island, Nyali, Bamburi, and the north coast beaches are most conveniently accessed via taxi or tuk tuk, though matatus (shared vans) are also available. This being said, if you plan to commute off the island, crossing the bridge and ferry during morning or evening rush hour is bound to test your patience.
The area immediately around the building is well-lit and offers access to the main roads - and by extension, food and entertainment options - on the island. The local supermarket (Budget) is 2 blocks away, and a number of smaller shops are in the vicinity surrounding the flat. Old Town is about 1.5 km to the east, which makes for a pleasant walk during the day... if you can handle the heat. Moi Avenue is just around the corner, and most other places on the island are within a 5-10 minute tuk tuk ride.
I've been amassing a selection of food (eat-in, take-away, and delivery), drink, and entertainment options available throughout Mombasa, which I'd love to introduce you to while you're here! =) Getting AroundThe building is located on one of Mombasa's main roads. So, tuk-tuks and matatus (shared van) can easily be hailed in seconds. For your convenience, I can provide you with phone numbers for tuk-tuk and taxi drivers who are familiar with the flat location should you prefer a pick-up right from the building.
