The SpacePlease contact me if you have any inquires and we can discuss your stay! 2 reasons I recommend this house to you... 1. Location location location! Our house is literally centre of the kyoto city. From Kyoto station it's only 2 stops to our nearest subway station (Shijo). From Shijo station, it will take only 5mins walk to our place. Nishiki market is a 5 minute walk, Gion area is also within walking distance (15-20 mins). The closest bus stop is Shijo Karasuma (7 mins walk) from the bus station, many buses are running to major sight seeing spots! You can organise your plan very efficiently! And of course there are heaps of cafes and restaurants around our house and they are open until late at night! 2. Roomy and cozy house We rent out whole house just for you. Our house is in drive way, you will feel very private and relaxed. The house is ideal for groups, families and couples who are looking for a quiet and relaxing stay but also being close to the city centre. Recently we changed the number of guests we can have for our house from 4 guests to 6 guests. We have two Western beds and two Japanese beds on the first floor. You can have 2 more Japanese beds on the ground floor (in the living room). You can store the 2 Japanese beds while you are not using them. Michiko (the owner of the house) speaks Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese. Although her English is very limited, she has a great hospitality and very happy to help you! (and of couese I am very happy to help your stay as well!) With kids stay, we can only accept kids from 5 y.o (and we charge for kids as 1 guest ) If you would like to discuss with it ,please let us know :)

The SpaceCentral Kyoto Traditional townhouse that has been kept in great shape and in it's original character. The house is a 2 story Nagaya, which is a Kyoto style townhouse. The guest room is one of the largest in the house, with windows that open to a view of the garden and pond. There is a shower and bath as well as a western style toilet, both of which are outside and shared with me , who lives in the house. The location here is arguably the best in Kyoto. The house is conveniently located just around the corner from Demachiyanagi Station, where you can catch a train down to Sanjo shopping district, Gion Shijo district, Gojo Kyomizu temple, Shichijo Sanjusangendo temple, Tofukuji (where you can change trains and go to Kyoto station or Nara), Fushimi Inari Shrine and all the way down to Osaka. Or take the Eiden railway going north up to Kurama in the mountains where there is a very nice onsen (hot spring) and a nice hike up into the mountain where there is a temple and shrine. Also around the corner from the house there are buses that can take you pretty much anywhere in Kyoto. And the house is only a few hundred yards from the Kamo River, a 24 hour convenience store, and about 5-10 minute walk to the Imperial Palace, World Heritage Shimo Gamo Shrine and the Demachi shopping arcade. Also right next to Demachiyanagi station is a good bicycle rental shop, a taxi stand, a Post Office, Restaurants, cafes, and a Drug store. If you're interested in staying in a beautiful, historic Kyoto house and meeting some interesting people living in Kyoto then this is the place for you. Interaction with my guests is the joy of being a host so I hope to have some interesting conversations! there are some great restaurants and cafés less than a 5 min walk- Japanese soul food, ramen, Italian , French, Spanish, falafel, Indian Also there's a great bakery around the corner. There's a covered outdoor shopping street with grocery stores and various types of restaurants and shops, including a famous local traditional Japanese sweets shop just across the river. If you are up for experiencing Japanese public bath culture then there is a very good sento(public bath) just down the street. And if you are interested to try some different public baths around town please ask for some recommendations. A 5 min walk to the railway will give you some options to explore the northern part of Kyoto. You can take the train to the village of Kibune and walk the river to the village center where you'll find little cafés and restaurants and a path to climb up the mysterious and sacred Kurama mountain. Along that path you'll run into shrines and temples on your way over the mountain to the village of Kurama. And when you arrive there(takes about an hour) highly recommend a soak in the outdoor hot spring(onsen). It's a part of kyoto you'll remember! Also, you can go to mount Hiezan. You have the option of hiking to the top or taking the cable car. On top is a famous temple and beautiful view of kyoto. Japanese calligraphy and cooking classes are available. Because there is no place to keep your luggage safely in the morning. This house is narrow, luggage store location is only guest room. After the guest has checked out and I organize the room. There is no modern air conditioner in this house by the intention of this house owner and local special circumstances. (On the winter season is a stove in each room .) Therefore, You may feel cold in winter in comparison with the building of modern times. I recommend that you spend with warm clothes in a house on winter season. It is old. 300 yen per set one day. (Advance order necessary) A washing dryer is 300 yen at once. I inquire the information of the official name (age, sex) and address of the guest beforehand. Kyoto plays a significant role in the identity of Japanese people. Experience this authentic part of Japan in a Ryokan. Why do Japanese people feel most comfortable on Tatami floors? Why do Japanese people from outside Kyoto praise Japanese food in Kyoto? Why is it difficult for Japanese people on vacation to decide whether to stay in a hotel or a Ryokan when they come to Kyoto? Kyoto is the city where Japanese people can reassure their ethnicity and remember the most important things about being Japanese. In a Ryokan, get more out of the basic necessities in life; food, shelter and clothing. An experience different from the common hotel. A Ryokan is an accommodation facility original to the owners taste, influenced by Japanese culture, style and feel. A service that can't be found anywhere else in the world; only here in Japan. The SpaceBoasting beautiful views over the surroundings hills and valleys, our house, originally built in the ’30s, was recently completely renovated and beautifully appointed by a renowned designer of famous Tokyo and Kyoto luxury hotels. The ground floor of our house offers a luminous, spacious open space that leads from the entrance, through the modern kitchen to the traditional Japanese tatami room, allowing you to enjoy the view on the small private Japanese garden (tsubo-niwa) throughout the area. The bathroom area which we aimed to design with taste also overlooks the garden and completes the layout. On the 2nd floor a peaceful sleep, lulled by the sound of a small stream running in front of the house, in one of the two Japanese tatami rooms should rejuvenate you after a busy day of sightseeing. One room provides traditional Japanese bedding (futons), while the other a Western style double bed. We also have an office area with a desk adjacent to one of the bedrooms. Finally, by using the vast dressing and storage area, you should limit the clutter in the rest of the house. Quick description of the layout: 1st floor: Kitchen, Living Room, Japanese Living Room, Bathroom, and Toilet, Japanese Garden. 2nd floor: Two Japanese Bedrooms with Japanese bedding (Futon) and a double bed. Office area with a desk. 3rd Floor: Storage area and play room (sometimes locked for safety reasons) The house comes fully furnished with free internet Wifi, TV and DVD player, a gas-powered kitchen stove, microwave/traditional oven, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, shower/ bathtub, hairdryer and, of course, AC units and a very good heating system for the cold Kyoto winter nights. The NeighborhoodIn the eastern part of Kyoto, in the protected residential and green district of Okazaki, a very short walk from the temple of Eikando, famous for its autumn colors and within a stone’s throw away from the famous Philosopher’s Path and the splendid Nanzen-Ji Temple complex, our house is located in one of the city most culturally rich areas. Running below the mount Daimonji, which at the culmination of the O-Bon festival is lit by a giant bonfire, the Philosopher's Path is often considered Kyoto’s best promenade. It links the Silver Pavilion Palace with the Nanzenji temple complex through a long and winding path that follows a canal bordered by cherry trees, charming cafés, and quaint craft shops. Visitors flock during the Cherry season and the fall to enjoy Japan’s most eagerly awaited events. The little known yet marvelous temple of Honen-in where famous writer Tanizaki Junichiro rests is also well worth a visit. We have two supermarkets in our neighborhood. The nearest is a short 5mn away and is open until 22:00. Another option, 15mn away, is open 24/7. We will also be happy to recommend local restaurants, often offering delicious lunch sets, always popular with travelers. Getting AroundNumerous bus lines are very near, making all tourist areas easily accessible. We also have a taxi station just by the house that operates during the day (at night please proceed slightly further to the Shirakawa road to catch a cab) Rides are actually quite reasonable for short trips and for 4 sharing. We can also arrange bike rentals services, another popular way of sightseeing especially in our neighborhood. Other Things to NoteThe house with its staircases and skylight might present some hazards for little ones if left unsupervised.

The SpaceThe house is modern Japanese style and the first floor quarters have just been renovated. A brand new bathroom with laundry facilities has been added. There is also a modern kitchenette with everything guests might need to eat in. Since it is Japanese style, guests are expected to remove their shoes before entry. Bedding is futons. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the first floor of the house which includes a kitchen and bathroom. Nothing is shared. You have the whole first floor to yourself and may come and go (separate back entrance) as you like. Our family lives upstairs on the second and third floors. There is no access from the first floor to the rest of the house and vice-versa, to ensure guest privacy. Interaction with GuestsThe level of interaction with guests will depend on the wishes of the guests. But one of the main reasons for setting up guest quarters in our home is so that we can better address the needs of guests and help those who may be a little hesitant to travel unassisted or who are unsure of exactly what they want to do and see during their stay. We have jobs and a family but will try to help out guests whenever they need assistance. The NeighborhoodThe house is located in central Okazaki which is our favourite area in Kyoto but one that is sometimes overlooked by international guests. It is a wonderful base from which to explore Kyoto. There are interesting historical sites in every direction from this house. In addition to its many parks and greenery, Okazaki is the major museum and gallery district of Kyoto. It is home to many points of interest including Heian Jingu Shrine, the National Museum of Modern Art, the Kyoto Concert Hall, Nanzenji temple, Kyoto City Zoo, The Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, Kyoto International Exhibition Hall, Eikando temple, Fureaikan Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts, Kyoto Budo Center, Hosomi Museum, Okazaki Shrine, Kyoto Handicraft Center. Okazaki is also nearby many fine restaurants like the Michelin-starred Tsuruya and Kikusui. This region has so much to offer that you could easily spend a day exploring it. Getting AroundThe house is about 1.8km (20min walk) from the downtown (shopping and entertainment) areas. The area is well served by city bus services. The local closest bus stop is 1min walk. Taxis are also cheap and plentiful throughout Kyoto. Guests might also consider renting bicycles to explore the city as Kyoto is quite flat and easy to navigate. Other Things to NoteParking is available for bicycles if guests decide to rent them, but there is unfortunately no space for cars. There is a paid parking lot (with 4 spaces) 30m from the house. Please ask us about discounts for weekly stays.
