The SpaceSimply stunning secluded and superbly serene retreat on its own 40 acres amidst 800 acres 'behind the gate' and surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of open space, county and state parks! While an hour from three major airports (SFO, SJC, and OAK), it is the kind of space where it incredibly easy to not see anyone else your whole time here. The property was built to tread lightly, very lightly, on the physical place. Water is from wells, electricity from solar (with a backup generator) and saved in batteries. The main house can accommodate 6 comfortably (1 master bedroom and a loft with a queen and two single futons), but its mainly meant for getting away from it all. Separate building and office has a pull out sofa bed for 2. If rustic and serene are what you're looking for, come visit. If a party is what you're after, its probably not a great match. Hike out the front door to 1200 year old 200' redwoods or lay in the sun reading a book. Less than an hours drive to the ocean, but you'll never want to leave once you get here. Arriving in the daylight is recommended your first time. We look forward to welcoming you! Interaction with GuestsWe can be on the property with you in another house or leave you alone with emergency number. The NeighborhoodCan't see any other neighbors from our place, you might encounter a friendly wave on the road! Getting AroundWe're in the middle of the woods, almost by ourselves! Plenty of parking :)

The SpaceThe house is charming and very comfortable. All the rooms are large and well appointed. There is an eat in kitchen, very well equipped with gas stove, and with bay window seating looking out on the coastal mountain range. There are hardwood floors in all but the bedroom. The Living room has 14 foot ceilings and great views looking west. Plenty of windows offer lots of sunlight in every room. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire property. Interaction with GuestsI will get you settled, and be a phone call away in case you have questions or need help. If I am traveling during your visit, I will introduce you to a friend/neighbor who will be there for you in my place. The NeighborhoodYou won't find a more beautiful location so close to Silicon Valley as this. This unique and charming community is located just 10 minutes from the Ocean, 45 minutes from San Francisco and 35 minutes from Stanford University. You are conveniently close to all the urban and cultural amenities the area has to offer, yet in one of the most beautiful, scenic communities of the Santa Cruz Mountains. We have a general store with all the necessities to stock the frig, a great selection of wines and you can even get a pizza to go. Hiking trails are numerous throughout the area and right out the back door. Getting AroundYou must have your own transportation and be comfortable driving on a well maintained, but curvy mountain road. Other Things to NoteCell phones do work up here but Verizon has the best coverage. There is no land line.

The SpaceFor anyone interested in the Pacific coast from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, this is a gorgeous place to hang your hat. I am equidistant between the two cities, nine miles from the beach and 35 minutes east gets you to Stanford and Palo Alto. At 900', views are wide and open of grassland and treed slopes in the distance - easy commute. I have 20 acres to 1300' and few neighbors so the environment is quiet. The road is a private one. Guest AccessGuests will have their own gate opener and keys to the downstairs level. Outside they are free to hike the property and they have a private covered patio area. Upper deck is off limits. Interaction with GuestsI only present guests with what they need to come and go and answer any questions. As a painter and writer, I live (quietly) on the upstairs level. The NeighborhoodLa Honda has a long history as a logging stop and a place for summer cottages for folks from SF in the 1920's. It is a small and intimate community where folks look out for one another. We have a wonderful little market in town with an amazing variety of food and wine -- and fabulous pizzas. Getting AroundThere is no public transit but cyclists are many. There is parking for two cars and a "commute" to the Silicon Valley is through beautiful countryside and takes 35 minutes. Other Things to NoteI have 5 acres enclosed in a deer fence to keep out deer and coyote. The house is within this space and on the lower slope I have a separate building which is both art studio and gallery.
