Welcome to La Penita de Jaltemba! This is the mainly Mexican service town (doctors, dentists, groceries, clothing, schools...) next to Rincon de Guayabitos (more hotels, souvenir shops, more gringos but also Mexican tourists). If you like a serene beach you'll find it eight minutes on foot from the house; if you want vendors and beer on the beach, take the five minute ride to Guayabitos or 10 mins. to Los Ayala.
La Penita boasts a newly completed Malecon (seawall/boardwalk) and a famous Thursday market (tianguis) known for crafts, fresh produce, housewares, cd's, clothes.... In our neighbourhood there are many residential streets to explore, some flat and some going up the hill, some leading out into the countryside. You'll hear burros and horses going by, chickens and roosters, dogs, even the occasional pig. The property is 8 minutes walk from the downtown shops and services, and little grocery stores are two minutes from the house in about 5 directions! Taxi and bus service is reliable and safe, and the region has hotsprings, a fabulous waterfall, and lots of towns to explore.
Our just-completed casita (=little house) was designed so that we ourselves would want to stay in it. Both the bedroom and great room are spacious, fully furnished and equipped, and decorated with Mexican arts and crafts. The front terrace runs the whole width of the building, giving both shade and sun areas. Sitting on the top of the property's garden and terraces, their are lovely views of the ocean as well as the pool (to be shared with us). The street is unpaved and populated with extremely helpful and warm Mexican neighbours. The king-size bed has firm mattress, new pillows and linens, and its bedspread coordinates with the curtains, tones of dove grey and teal for a restful atmosphere. The bedroom has ac, although you probably won't need it, as well as a safe, double desk, 2 desk chairs of upholstered wrought iron and lots of storage space. The bathroom is in fiesta colours of light green, lavender, pink, goldenrod, with matching towels of good quality. Women will appreciate the mosaic shower bench to sit on. The open-plan kitchen of huanacaxtle wood has deep drawer, lots of counter space, pantry, full size stove and fridge, many small appliances, and has lots of space for your guests to gather. The living/dining/extra sleeping area also houses the entertainment unit and tv, If an additional bed is needed, a third person could sleep in the great room. The dining area is traditional "equipale" cowhide/wood, with a unique swag lamp. The great room balances jewel tones which are in the mosaics as well. Parking is available and laundry can be negotiated. Please, no smokers or cats. Our aging jack Russell is territorial but we could consider dogs that are discreet, non-destructive and quiet. We know how to respect your privacy and yet offer whatever assistance and information you need, and would love to share our region with you. Neighbours Chila and Ruby will clean for you (twice weekly included in rental, more can be arranged with them) and if you like tamales, enchiladas, pozole... their family runs a little weekend restaurant within a stone's throw. We've seen the children grow up; peaceful, fun-loving, and affectionate, we adore them. When you have booked, we will send you the form of waiver for liability; this must be signed as a condition of renting. Please send us your questions.
the fee for utilities is an approximation depending on your usage; it could be between $50-$120.
Four hours of cleaning is included in the rent, 4 hours/week. It does not include personal services such as making the bed, doing laundry or washing dishes. The fee for additional cleaning is to be paid whenever such cleaning is needed, 35 pesos/hour.
Additional fees may apply:
- additional cleaning | 3 CAD per day
The casita perches on the upper level of our property above the gardens, looking out over streets to an ocean view. I's a mere eight minute walk to the beach or to the downtown, and minor stores that nonetheless carry all basic needs (fruits, veggies, meats, dairy, sundries) are about three minutes in a variety of directions. The street is typically Mexican, unpaved, with wonderful, helpful neighbours; they make this a safe and friendly place to be.
