The SpaceThis old barn, with it’s high Oregon ceilings, was built in 1880. It has been fully restored and renovated, and has a fully equipped kitchen. Submerge yourself in this stylish contemporary interpretation of the early South African settler trader’s lifestyle. The cottage is filled with beautiful antiques, and fascinating farm memorabilia. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to explore our property, but also have access to wonderful walks on surrounding farms. There is plenty of open space to stretch the legs, and brilliant clear skies for night owls. We are fortunate enough to have the Touwsberg Private Nature Reserve less than 500m from our gate, allowing our guests access to unspoiled nature and wild life - giraffe/kudu/eland/zebra/ etc. The reserve is easily reached by either car or bicycle, or on foot. For those who need to soak their muscles after a long walk, we have a hot springs resort less than 12km from our farm. Interaction with GuestsOther than the initial meet and greet, we pride ourselves on respecting our guests privacy. We are, however, available 24/7 for any queries. The NeighborhoodThe Klein Karoo is a natural gem, a place where the pace of city living fades away the moment you arrive. The sounds of bird life during the day, and the almost complete silence at night, will certainly bring peace to the soul. Getting AroundUnfortunately there is very limited public transport along the R62. Although mini-bus taxi's do run on the R62, between Ladismith and Cape Town, on a regular basis. Other Things to NoteAll bedding and towels are provided. There is plenty out-door shaded area, braai facilities, and first nights bag of wood is provided. Extra wood is available for purchase.

The SpaceThe Barn has been creatively restored giving it authentic charm and a peaceful atmosphere. The main bedroom sleeps two in a double bed. The lounge has a second double bed and the dining area also houses a set of bunk beds. The lounge has comfy furniture grouped near a large fireplace – a great spot for a chilly winter evening. Subdued solar lighting adds to the ambiance of the room. The bathroom has a lovely Victorian style bath and a spacious shower. The kitchen area is well equipped and has a microwave and gas hob. The stoep is just made for relaxing and soaking up the late afternoon sun as you light the fire and get the braai on the go. Guest AccessStaying at the Barn, you'll have walking or biking access to 1600 hectares of beautiful Klein Karoo veld. There's also a lovely dam where you can swim or use the provided canoes or paddle skis. Interaction with GuestsWhile suitably offset from the main house on the property to ensure privacy, Tori & Carl are always on hand for assistance with advice about things to do, and places to go in the area. The NeighborhoodSummer is the time for swimming, canoeing or fishing in the dam down the road. The cooler months are perfect for exploring the veld on foot or on your mountain bike. Keep a look out for buck, hare and a large variety of bird life including the barn owls, frequent visitors after which the farm is named. Walking into the back valley to spot the resident herds of zebra or rooi hartebeeste is also recommended. A longer stay will give you time to relax, enjoy the peace of the farm and perhaps head out on some day trips. Drive into Ladismith via the scenic Dwarsrivier road, stopping at Mymering to do some wine tasting. Seweweekspoort , with its folded orange rock faces towering above the road is just 30km on from Ladismith and well worth it. Port tasting in Calitzdorp and even the Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn are within reach for longer days out. Getting AroundBarn Owl Farm is approximately 15km from Ladismith, the closest town. It is located on a dirt road. Sadly, public transportation is pretty much non-existent so you'll need your own vehicle. Other Things to NoteDogs are welcome by arrangement, as long as they are sufficiently chilled to co-exist with Myrtle & Ellie, the resident dogs, Amber & Ruby, the resident cats, and Dorothy, Sadness, Lonely and all the other chickens.
