The SpaceYellow Point, named for the native succulents that grow along the shore, is a little slice of the Mediterranean in Canada. With stunning ocean views, this lovely home overlooks the calm protected waters of Stuart Channel and the Gulf Islands. Nestled in the countryside of Yellow Point, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, this home is twenty minutes south of Nanaimo and ninety minutes north of Victoria, a great central location for exploring Vancouver Island. This tranquil property is peaceful, private and right on the beach. A great spot for nature lovers. Towering cedars attract eagles, woodpeckers, kingfishers and many other birds. An established orchard attracts wildlife including deer and rabbits. All are easily viewed from the living room and large deck. The tidal area is endlessly interesting to explore at low tide. The secluded pebble beach, known only to locals, is the only one in the Yellow Point area and is perfect for sun bathing and swimming in the summer months. Public access to the Beach with solid concrete steps and a hand railing is a very short 70 meter walk away. This cozy, comfortably decorated home includes a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area, living room with double sofa-bed, bedroom with a queen bed, (cozy cotton sheets for both beds), den area with rocking chairs, electric fireplace, and desk. There is a large bathroom with tub/shower. The spacious, sunny deck off the living room features comfortable outdoor seating with panoramic views of the water, gulf islands and mainland mountains. Wireless internet access, a land line telephone as well as a 32 inch TV with cable and DVD player are on site. Yellow Point is a great spot for nature lovers. Stuart Channel is teeming with marine mammals and birds. Within walking distance are three local artisan studios and galleries. Be sure to visit the many artisan galleries in the yellowpoint area. There is also plenty to do and see within easy driving distance. The area features golf courses, parks, hiking and biking trails, bass and trout fishing at Quesnel Lake, kayak rentals from Ladysmith, and even bungee jumping at the famous “bungy-zone” 20 minutes away. Yellow Point rd is a popular bicycling loop for avid cyclists, especially in summer. The town of Cedar 7km up the road has a full service grocery and cold beer and wine for those wanting to cook in, and the Mahle House restaurant with its award winning wine list serves gourmet meals for an evening out. Or stop by the farmer's market, every Sunday (from May to October) just down the road. For casual dining or a morning cappuccino visit Cedar’s CoCo Café coffee house and bistro. The famous Crow and Gate English Pub is also close by serving hearty, tasty country meals and amazing local beer. The wineries of the Cowichan valley and the sandy beaches of Parksville are easy day trips. There is one long term tenant in the suite above the garage. Guest AccessThe beach is accessible from our front yard but the hand hewn steps are rough and awkward. We do not recommend this trail. Much easier access is via the public access trail a 70 meter walk away. Interaction with GuestsI always try to meet our guests, walk them through the house, and answer any questions they might have. After that initial walk through, I will leave them in peace. I am easily accessible by telephone to answer any inquiries and am a 5 minute drive away should any "in person" assistance be needed. The NeighborhoodThe view of the ocean, a beautiful Getting AroundThere is no public transit to the Beach house.

The SpaceMy bright and spacious 3-bdrm, 3-bath, 3-level townhome is very near jaw-dropping Holland Creek Trail & a plethora of other connecting trails. Enjoy the forest, waterfalls, swimming holes, and incredible hiking and mountain biking. After a restful sleep on a comfortable queen-sized bed, enjoy morning coffee and toast (homemade bread!) on the house. Relax with the dark-eyed juncos and other birds on the deck in the small back garden area (facing a "living wall"), or glimpse the mountains from the balcony. Enjoy a library of Canadian books and Netflix movies. I live at the top of the hill and can walk to historic downtown Ladysmith in 20 minutes (or less), and to our fabulous Transfer Beach Park (great ocean swimming, kayak rentals, free Sunday night summer music concerts, Farmer's Market Tuesdays, or just enjoy the sailboats and scenery) in 25. If you're driving, you can be on the beach in a flash. This is an ideal location if you wish to also visit Nanaimo (15 mins), Chemainus (10 mins), Duncan (20 mins), and Victoria (60 mins). A great stopping point if Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Campbell River or Tofino are your eventual destinations. Guest AccessYou'll have a 2nd floor bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen, dining, living area, main floor bathroom, balcony and back deck are shared with the owner. There's much room for storing bikes, kayaks, luggage, etc. inside. Parking is on the road approximately a one minute walk away. Interaction with GuestsI will try to help make your time in Ladysmith one of the highlights of your visit to Vancouver Island. I work from a home office but have a fairly flexible schedule. I know that many guests will have their own places to go, people to see, and things to do, and\or they'll just want time to relax. If guests desire solitude and little interaction, I respect that. For those who wish to get out and hike with me around the local Holland Creek Trail, watch a good film, have a game of cribbage, or even sing a few songs together, that's super! I am an outgoing "people person" who adores meeting new folks and hearing their stories (travel and otherwise). Note: I don't cook, so you'll be on our own in the food department (buying, cooking and clean-up, if you wish to make meals here). I will provide morning coffee and toast, and tea will always be available. I will be present during your stay. The NeighborhoodI adore my moments-away proximity to some of the best hiking in Canada. I love the mountain and ocean views from the hilltop behind me. I can't say enough about the streams, and rivers, and swimming holes, and quarries, and lakes I frequent, and am thrilled that the ocean-swimming here is (reportedly) the warmest north of San Francisco Bay. I'm besotted with Ladysmith's famous bakery (people literally line up out the door for the cinnamon buns), and fantastic coffee shops. I treasure how quickly I can be in Nanaimo to throw crab traps at the government pier, or in Chemainus to enjoy the myriad quaint shops. I'm thrilled with the music scene on the west coast, the abundance of galleries, and the iconic farmers' markets, ie: Duncan, Cedar. I cherish being just an hour from Victoria ... and it's a spectacularly scenic drive. I'm wild about the thrift shops and the blackberry picking, the salmon and old growth firs. Ladysmith is small enough to be a smile-at-strangers community, big enough that you can get what you need. And I'm from Saskatchewan, so don't even get me started on the glorious climate! Getting AroundLadysmith is approximately. 10 minutes from the Nanaimo Airport (YCD), and about 25 minutes from the two Nanaimo ferry terminals (Duke Point and Departure Bay). (Note: if you require pick up, I can often arrange to be at the airport or ferry for a competitive rate). There is a public bus from Ladysmith to Chemainus, Duncan, and Victoria, and there is local taxi service. Other Things to NoteThis is a tri-level, so it's not ideal for anyone who is uncomfortable with stairs. I speak mid-level Spanish, and love having opportunities to practise it. For those who wish to enjoy a longer hike (near Ladysmith or elsewhere) or desire to sightsee around the island, I can be hired as a hiking\tour guide\chauffeur. ($30\hr plus (EMAIL HIDDEN)). Laundry rates: washing $5\load drying $5\load

For more information on Rates and Availability, please contact us to speak with one of our live agents who are waiting to help you with your accommodation selection or you can visit our web site to view the current rates for this property Located just off the West Coast mainland of British Columbia, Vancouver Island is a 460 kilometre-long and approximately 80 kilometre-wide island that is home to many communities, townships and cities, including the provincial capital city of Victoria. The largest island on the western side of North America, Vancouver Island has an extremely diverse topography ranging from lush rainforest valleys and snow-capped peaks to rugged, rocky coastlines and smooth, sandy beaches. It's this diversity that gives such distinct flavors to the various regions and the communities that comprise them. The southern tip of the island is comprised of Greater Victoria, the Saanich Peninsula and the Western Communities. Much of Victoria itself can be characterized as a modern heritage city with turn-of-the century buildings standing alongside condo high-rises. And with its ancient oak forests, cherry blossom-lined streets and warm, windswept weather, it's no surprise that Victoria is consistently ranked one of the most beautiful cities worldwide. Only a short drive from the city centre, the Saanich Peninsula is a cradle of agriculture with quaint communities and calm, inland beaches, while the more rugged Western Communities are a cluster of booming townships on the island's more rugged and forested Pacific Coast. Only an hour's drive up island, the Cowichan Valley enjoys a unique micro-climate, evident in the area's proliferation of vineyards, orchards and dairy farms. Small communities such as Cobble Hill, Duncan, Cowichan Bay, Cowichan Lake and Chemainus breathe a unique mix of small-town flavor and aboriginal charm into the region. Further north, the mid-island city of Nanaimo is a quaint tribute to Vancouver Island's oceanic history. With fabulous restaurants, bountiful shopping and numerous outdoor activities at your fingertips, it's clear why this is a growing, prospering community. Just minutes from Nanaimo are the coastal communities of Parksville and Qualicum beach. Parksville boasts the best beach in the world at Rathtrevor Park, it has to be seen to be believed. At low tide the ocean retreats more than 2km our exposing white sand for as far as the eye can see in every direction. One hour further north, the Comox Valley is not only home to the communities of Courtney and Comox but also the island's alpine sports destination: Mt. Washington boasts 60 runs, a high-speed quad chair, a fixed-grip quad (among other lifts) and a vertical drop of over 500 meters. It's easy to see why visitors from the world over make this their skiing destination. Like your recreation a little warmer and wetter? Take a detour to the island's west Pacific Coast and experience the awesome, wave-crashing majesty of Long Beach, the surfer mecca that stretches between the towns of Ucluelet and Tofino. Simply put? If you haven't experienced Vancouver Island, you haven't really experienced British Columbia. Vancouver Island is located off of the west side of Canada and is easily accessible by plane, boat and car. In order to drive to the island from Vancouver you must use the BC Ferries system so please check the schedule before departing. Victoria has a large International Airport that has daily flights to and from Seattle and Vancouver as well as many other destinations. The east side of the island is accessible by car, bus and train. Most of the west side of the island is best accessed by 4x4 as most of the roads are very rugged and much of this part of the island is true wilderness. Please make sure you let someone know where you are going and when you are returning if you intend to head into the back country. Away On The Bay, is a three bedroom ocean front vacation home located in the World Famous town of Chemainus BC, where tourist come to enjoy the large hand painted murals that line the streets depicting British Columbia heritage and culture.
