The SpaceFreebird’s Cabin Room is nestled between two historic oak trees. The room is attached to the home; however, it has its own private keyless entry and cozy private sitting porch. The large private bathroom has a tub with a shower. The cabin room has: refrigerator; microwave; toaster; iron and ironing board; coffee maker; wireless Internet; and TV. A modest breakfast is provided. The nine foot ceiling, knotty pine walls, cabin décor, are an excellent setting for: tranquil retreats and quiet get-a-ways; festival revelers and marathon runners; those who are passing through this slice of Cajun Country, or those who attend the plethora of Ragin’ Cajun activities throughout the year. This cabin room can become your “Happy Place” while away from home. Guest AccessA portfolio of information, with internet access code are placed in the room upon guest's arrival. Guests have access to the carport; cabin room bathroom; and front porch. There is access to a small fire pit on the side of the house, please check with host before using it. Smoking is permitted outside only. Interaction with GuestsDue to my work schedule, there is limited interaction with guests. Your privacy is highly respected. I will, however, do all I can to meet guests during their stay and texting is always appreciated as needed. The NeighborhoodKnown as part of the "Saint Streets," this neighborhood is one of the oldest in Lafayette. The Azealas herald the beginning of Spring and the area is well known as one of the nicest places in Lafayette for walking, jogging, and riding bikes. Getting AroundThere is a transit system in Lafayette; however, this airbnb is one mile from downtown which is hub of many festivals, live music, art shows/walks, and plays; the University of Louisiana; Cajun Field; the Cajun Dome; the historic Cathedral of St. John; all of the streets of the Mardi Gras parade routes; and not far from the Farmer's Market, or Gerard Park. Other Things to NoteDirections from the Interstate, or Lafayette Airport to the airbnb will be given upon request of booked guest.

The SpaceYou'll be surprised to discover this modern apartment right in the middle of an older, traditional area of town! The driveway leads behind the main house to a parking pad and your private entrance. When you enter the apartment the high peaked ceiling provides a light and airy feeling to the space and the colorful fabrics and artwork keep it warm and cosy. The first floor has a comfortable living room with built in shelves filled with books and games. The open concept has a dining area with a table for four and bar stools at the counter for eating or working. The compact kitchen has a two-burner gas stove, toaster oven, microwave, dishwasher, full sized refrigerator and custom cabinets filled with cooking and eating utensils. The bathroom is also located on the first floor. Instead of a bathtub we have a roomy skylit shower area. It is tiled from floor to ceiling and includes two shower heads. The second floor sleeping loft area, that overlooks the living room, is reached by a spiral staircase. A clever pulley lift system is provided for you to transport luggage upstairs with ease. Simple directions for hoisting are provided! This huge, open concept, upstairs room is outfitted with a queen bed, a full size futon sofa bed and plenty of soft pillows! It is designed to sleep up to four guests. It also boasts a seating area, storage for luggage, and a washer and dryer. The sleeping loft space is circled with small frosted windows that allow privacy and filtered light. The metal roof declares the approach of frequent southern showers. Guest AccessThe apartment's French doors face the lush backyard that is currently occupied by our rescued dog, Maxwell. Until a fenced off area is provided, the yard belongs to Maxwell! Interaction with GuestsWe live in a stand-alone house on the property. Although we may see each other now and then, we interact as much as or as little as a guest desires. We are available to answer questions or provide travel advice to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. The NeighborhoodWe are located in an older, quiet neighborhood with huge oaks and colorful blooming trees and bushes. The shade trees make it perfect for taking walks in Louisiana's sultry climate and experiencing the southern foliage. This part of town is often referred to as "The Holy Land" or "Saint Streets" because so many of the streets named after saints. Getting AroundWe are 5 minutes from the regional airport and close to I-10 and I-49. Public transportation is minimal and sidewalks are few. Bike rental is located downtown, and we are close enough to use a bike to get to main festival sites. Our rural landscape spread makes it important to rent a car for touring the prairie, farmland, swamp and coastal areas that you won't want to miss. Other Things to NoteThe spiral stair is the only access to the upper level. It is stable but may be inconvenient for some guests during the night. It is comfortable for adult use but not as safe for young children and pets. We are open to a conversation about your options regarding pets and young children. Fresh linens are provided at check-in but not changed on a daily basis. Accommodations will be made for linens for long term rentals. After your stay, please place all used linens by the upstairs washer before leaving.

The SpaceNOTE: I AM HAVING TROUBLE UPDATING THE CALENDAR. HOWEVER: DUE TO SITUATION OF MY AGED PARENTS I AM SOMETIMES OUT OF TOWN OR IN TRANSIT AND NOT HOSTING IN FALL 2014. OCTOBER, FOR FESTIVALS ACADIENS, YES I WILL HOST, ALSO AT OTHER HOLIDAYS AND FESTIVALS. THE SPACE Pretty, nicely furnished bedroom and semiprivate sunroom in quiet, residential neighborhood within walking distance of downtown Lafayette, and easy biking distance of the University of Louisiana. Good location for Festival International, Mardi Gras, and other holidays. High quality supermarket (Rouse's) on Congress Street is an easy drive. See my growing guidebook on this site, for the neighborhood and the town - there is more to list than the software allows for, but it gives an initial idea of what is nearby. Craftsman style house, deck out back, pretty furniture mostly handmade in this region, nice linens. Books, folk art, hammock in shady yard. Wi-fi, large monitor but no actual television, loaner laptop. Refrigerator space, use of kitchen, shared bathroom with tub/shower, sparkling clean. Safe parking in driveway or on street. Daily price includes nice breakfast (i.e. good coffee and bread, real fruit, nice omelets, good yogurts). Weekly price includes groceries for same, for mornings when I may not be there or we may not coincide; monthly price does not include breakfast (although you may make your own). I am familiar with South Louisiana both on and off the beaten track, and I know where to direct you so that you get the very most you can out of your visit. You have your own entrance. The house is in a residential area on the University Avenue and Congress Street bus routes. Bicycles can be rented from Recycled Cycles downtown, on the Parc Sans Souci. Recycled Cycles is right next to the French Press, a nice restaurant, and across the street from the crafts shop of the Artists' Guild. I am scheduling a free day between each party, so that I can be as flexible as you need at check-in and check-out, without having the next guests coincide with the cleaner. I am also giving some rides, and doing airport or bus/train pickup and dropoff when I can (I cannot always / do not promise). While downtown is walking distance, many tourist destinations in the area (e.g. Lake Martin, for swamp visits, Acadian Village, Vermilionville) are not. Cabs are rare and buses infrequent; you may well want a car if you are not visiting strictly for Festival International or if you are here in the rainy season. Guest AccessACCESS You are welcome to use the kitchen, living room, and laundry within reason, but the dining room and back porch share walls with my room. No loud meals, shouting at tv, or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)ing from these spaces, especially at night. Interaction with GuestsINTERACTION We can interact as much or as little as you want, although I do work a heavy schedule and am not always around a great deal during the day. The NeighborhoodThis is one of Lafayette's older neighborhoods and it has that old-time charm, as well as being centrally located. There are nice cottages, well-kept gardens, sidewalks, and here and there a corner store where you can get a true, old-fashioned Louisiana plate lunch. Getting AroundThere are buses and we are on the bus lines, but bus service in Lafayette is not extensive. There are cabs but again, cab coverage is not complete. It is easy to walk downtown and to the UL Lafayette campus, but for tourism in other parts of town or visiting other towns in the area, you will want a car. Other Things to NoteWe are near restaurants like Laura's II, Julien's Po-Boys, and Johnson's Boucanière. My favorite lunch spot currently is the Creole Kitchen, which is a drive, but the best elegant lunch within walking distance is the one at Pamplona, in my view. A good stroll for dinner, in a different direction, is the Saints' Streets Inn.

The two semi-private bedrooms, one queen and one with two doubles, in a shotgun style, sleeps a maximum capacity of 6 guests. On those rainy days in Louisiana, you will be pleased to note the deep porch that keeps all your belongings dry while you enter. Interaction with GuestsI am at your service should you have a question about the area or a need that arises. Always available by phone or text during the day, I request nighttime calls be reserved for emergencies only. Email is always an option but there may be a delay in response. The NeighborhoodA rich and vibrant neighborhood, Freetown was voted "Best place to live downtown" in 2013 and for good reason! With easy access to all the hot spots and the infamous I-10/I-49 intersection, this location is ideal for night-owls and day-trippers alike. While the house sits firmly in the neighborhood, just a short walk in any direction brings you into the best of Lafayette culture. Within one half mile of the house is the heart of downtown, Jefferson St. featuring an array of at least 20 restaurants and bars, a public library, the Rosa Parks Transportation Center (train/city bus/ greyhound bus station), major banks, historic buildings, galleries, a splash pad, hair salons, retail shops ranging from crafts to bicycles to pastries, museums, great live music venues, coffee shops, the oldest continually operating ice cream parlor in America- Borden's, a farmers' market Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, plus, the highlight of our spring and summer Friday nights, Downtown Alive! and our two largest spring events- Mardi Gras and Festival International de Louisiane!! Within one mile of the house we have a large, lovely park which is the location of our largest fall event, Festival Acadiens et Creoles, a dog park, a variety of churches, a larger farmers' market on Saturday mornings, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Oil Center, the historic Vermilionville, and more restaurants. Within two miles of the house we have yet another Arts and Farmers' market on Saturday morning, the Heymann Performing Arts Center, a hospital, The Cajundome, Blackham Coliseum, the LITE Center, more parks, a movie theater, and of course more restaurants. Beyond the two-mile mark, we have a large mall with several department stores, the Vermilion River with landings at different entry points, and a development that is a village within the city called River Ranch that features shopping, eating, drinking, and which hosts its own spring/fall series Rhythms on the River. Acadiana is not just Lafayette. Outside of town but within ours and the neighboring parishes, our quaint nearby towns feature their own character. You may enjoy antiquing in Washington or Breaux Bridge. Or maybe a trip to the Atchafalaya Basin for a tour is of interest. Then there's the State Capitol just 45 minutes to the East. Keep going and you'll get to New Orleans, but you may never want to leave! To the West you'll find the Boudin Festival in Scott come April. Go south and run into Abbeville, but stop and enjoy some fresh-shucked oysters at Shuck's or Dupuy's. "Up north" 30 minutes you hit Opelousas. And go a little further to find some of Lafayette's locals' favorite camping at Indian Creek. No matter where you turn or how far you go, you'll find something to do! Getting AroundWe have so many things to do and see within walking distance, you may never need to get in a car, but if you do, driving around is pretty painless. If you want to get around hands-free, Lafayette now has UBER! This fast and reliable option is accessible through their website or smartphone app. The nearest city bus stop is half a block away and their routes are found on (URL HIDDEN) If bicycling is your thing, options are available; just ask. Other Things to NoteAs of May 3, 2016 we will no longer be booking reservations that include pets. The SpaceLots of sunlight! An open living area. / Une espace ouverte avec du soleil. Guest AccessExcept for my master bedroom and it's private bath, the whole house is yours. Any food in the kitchen is available, too. Just let me know when we run out! As for the outside, the back yard is not "user friendly" due to the dogs. Sauf pour ma chambre, toute la maison est à votre disposition, même la cuisine et le manger. Interaction with GuestsI like getting to know people and will be available to suggest places in the area and even cook sometimes if you wish. Otherwise, l can maintain a low profile; whatever best suits you. School days, I'm gone by 6:30 and return by 4:00 and generally stay home. During Mardi Gras and other festivals, however, I do participate. When school is out for the summer (end of May through mid-August), I'll be doing work around the house and in the yard. Because of the heat, I must mow at sun up or sun down, but will try to be as quiet as possible. Additionally, garbage pick up is on Monday mornings and quite noisy! The NeighborhoodGreat neighbors and quiet, too. Easy access to everything, including the interstate. Please see my Guidebook page. Voisins calmes. Accès facile à l'autoroute, au centre-ville, aux supermarchés. Voir mon Guidebook. Getting AroundSadly, buses pass only every hour. The closest stop is about a 5-minute walk away. But there are 3 groceries very near, 2 of which are found in small strip malls. I also have a pretty good bike with a basket. Le système autobus n'est pas super, mais il y a plusieurs supermarchés assez proches où on peut aller à pied ou en vélo (voir le garage). Other Things to NoteI call my sons' former room, the Black Room, a bit rustic. It's a work in progress. After cleaning it out, I discovered that they had been doing some karate, but hid the cracked closet door very well with posters. As soon as I can, I'll be trading those out. But they're functional. Also, the humidity here has made it necessary to redo the painted concrete floors and some bathroom paint. But it's clean! My back yard is occupied by 2 large, Catahoula-mix dogs who are not friendly to other dogs, but they have absolutely no access to the interior of the house. I barbecue on the front porch; it's easier. If I'm unable to, a friend or family member will come by daily to feed them, as well as the cats I have adopted. They must stay confined to my bedroom or outside. Too energetic & devious! When the whole house is offered, my bedroom and private bath are available, as well as the larger guest bedroom, which is still somewhat of a storage room for my 3 grown children. As they are slowing clearing out their things, more room becomes available. It's got a double bed in the middle of 2 walls lined with bookshelves and brown boxes. This would be where extra guests above 2 people stay.

The SpaceA great room in an 85 year old house near downtown Lafayette. In addition to the Queen size bed there is a standard full size bed. There is a private bath with a nice old clawfoot tub with a handheld shower and access to the kitchen microwave and a guest refrigerator as well as a washer and dryer. Nice large windows open for air on nice days. However if left open at night the train will seem pretty loud. There is central air and heat and we're glad to adjust them so that you are comfortable. The screened in back porch is a great relaxing place to sit and read or play music. Also there is an extensive library of reading materials on life and attractions in the area. Festivals, Mardi Gras and several popular music venues close by as well as several popular restaurants. A fifteen minute walk or five minute drive to Blue Moon, Artmosphere and the ACA. The Feed n Seed is just two blocks across the tracks. It's an ideal location for getting to Breaux Bridge and both I-49 and I-10 to go in any direction desired. I love to host my guests and take them to places they would never find on their own. As I am an active member of both the local music and dance scene I have ins to many events you might not otherwise find. I have a nice old van for local travel for group outings. I also can teach you how to dance in the local styles or improve your fiddle and guitar playing if you are so inclined. The neighborhood is quiet with good neighbors all around. An older part of the city and located near the RR tracks. The trains run about ten times a day an do blow their horn for the grade crossing nearby. While this bothers some people others say they it didn't. If the windows are closed it is not too bad. The house sits on a corner by itself and there is off street parking for guests. Walking and driving are easy from my location, but public transit is sorely inadequate I'm afraid. There is a bike shop downtown that will rent you a bicycle. Lafayette is a unique place as it is one of the last holdouts in the country for having its own indigenous culture. People here love music, to dance and to eat. It's all around and easy to discover for the friendly inquiring traveler. Guest AccessFestivals, Mardi Gras and several popular music venues close by as well as several popular restaurants.
