We have a beautiful, private, relaxed & carefree home.
We enjoy fine wines and conversation; we retire at 10 pm. The NeighborhoodWe are located in Marin County in the forested, tranquil San Geronimo Valley, surrounded by rolling hills, douglas fir, oak and bay trees. There are excellent hiking & biking trails, golf and restaurants within walking distance or short drive.
If you or your children have not seen the giant redwood trees, that truly is a must do. In this regard, our home is about 8 minutes from Samuel P Taylor State Park, where there are magnificent redwood trees, many right next to the Lagunitas Creek. This experience is highly similar to visiting Muir Woods but you do not need to park, take a bus and wait in long lines with a huge crowd of people. This park is a mystical place … children & adults can walk right into the hallowed out base of some giant redwood trees. Plan a picnic ... the kids love playing in the creek.
The many beaches near us offer adults and kids great joy!
The village of Stinson Beach, has a spectacular beach and the quaint town features good restaurants, art galleries, surf shop, etc.
Point Reyes National Seashore is about 15 minutes from our Lagunitas home. It was established to preserve and protect wilderness, natural ecosystems, and cultural resources along the diminishing undeveloped coastline of the western United States.
The Seashore is a sanctuary for myriad plant and animal species and for the human spirit—for discovery, inspiration, solitude, and recreation—and exists as a reminder of the human connection to the land.
Marine biologists have identified nearly a third of all known marine mammal species in the waters surrounding Point Reyes. Blue whales and humpback whales feed there during spring and summer months. Gray whales migrate past the shores twice a year on their round trip from Alaska to Baja.
The Point Reyes National Seashore Visitor Center on Bear Valley Road is a fantastic opportunity for children & adults. There is a natural history museum, maps of all the hiking trails, Miwok Indian cultural experiences AND, across the road, the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Trail … it’s just a short hike, but very memorable.
On the way to Stinson Beach is the "Five Brooks Horseback Riding" facility.
Nearby Tomales Bay features “Blue Waters Kayaking”, a full service kayaking outfitter.
Local Restaurants & Deli:
Lagunitas Grocery & Deli is just at the bottom of our hill. It features home cooked deli items and excellent breakfasts.
“Arti Restaurant", also just at the bottom of our hill, features organic Indian fare and gets RAVE reviews.
"Two Bird Cafe at the Valley Inn", about a mile away, has very fine American food. The locals love it for casual breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a charming outdoor dining deck. In season, they serve fresh oysters.
The town of Fairfax is about 15 minutes away ... LOTS of great live music, movie theater, restaurants, bakeries, ice cream and coffee shops.
The village of Nicasio, about 10-15 minutes away, features the "Rancho Nicasio” restaurant, an old fashioned saloon type of building. Robert Redford has been known to drop in there when he is visiting George Lucas down the road. The "Rancho" has lunches, dinners and music in the evenings ... on the weekends they host live lawn concerts with BBQ food ... makes for a GREAT day!
Lots of fresh, organic, local food, cheeses and organic markets ... no shortage of gluten free offerings.
There are glorious hiking & biking trails right from our driveway ... do a search and all of them will pop up. We're also happy to give you ideas when you arrive.
