We want our guest to be able to arrive whenever they want, with no pressure or time schedule to keep. That being said we are always just a call away and can provide expert advice on what to see, where to be seen, and great places to dine. There is no shortage of things to do in the area, so it is helpful to have a savvy local host help winnow out the options, don't be afraid to ask! Getting AroundPublic transportation -not so much.

The SpaceWe found our calling for a getaway purely by accident wanting to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city with our dogs. A few clicks on the website that Craig Newmark founded, we found us a nice cottage on the Esopus creek where we spent the day catching up on conversations and swimming with the dogs in between our wine therapy. At one point, we looked at each other and our happy pooches and said to each other “We should do this every weekend”. And so we did….and found “Chez Rive Gauche” a simple, warm and very inviting waterfront getaway a short 90 minute drive from NYC. So if you dream about escaping from a busy work week to relax by the water; canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, watching breathtaking sunsets and beautiful starry nights, Chez Rive Gauche is the perfect getaway for (URL HIDDEN) a great spot to reconnect with friends and loved ones and make new memories “Chez”, as we lovingly call it, sits on the beautiful Esopus creek and is fully furnished with global and vintage finds. This charming cottage has two bedrooms, a spacious living room and a well equipped kitchen combined with a dining room. Each of the bedrooms are outfitted with queen beds complete with organic sheets and down comforters. The mudroom leads you to the spacious outdoor deck with a dining area to enjoy views of the creek and the farm across while the sounds of the occasional train reminds you of the french countryside . Its complete with another welcoming deck right on the water plus a private dock and canoe for your exclusive enjoyment. The property is fenced in so your four legged companion will be safe but getting them away from the fun in the water is a totally different matter. While you may not want to leave the cottage and the never ending fun “creek” side, there are a number of historic towns like Woodstock, Kingston, Saugerties and Rhinebeck within 10 miles to enjoy festivals, flea markets, restaurants, farmers markets, shopping and antiquing. If winter sports are your thrill of choice, Hunter Mountain and Wyndham are a short drive away. Depending on the season, this 5 miles stretch of the creek freezes solid, providing an excellent opportunity to ice fish and skate if you are up for an adventure. All of these aspects are what makes Chez Rive Gauche so unique so what are you waiting for. ….please check our website and email us for information, availability or simply to say hi. Important considerations before making a reservation: Our goal is to give you an unforgettable experience, we really want you to enjoy your stay as much as we have had living here. The cottage faces the creek. The creek is deep and its something to keep in mind, when you venture into the water. The cottage is fenced on three sides (fourth being the water) there might be a gap where the fence and water meet, so if you have very curious pets, its something to consider especially if the pet is left unattended. The cottage has a septic, so please do not flush anything other than body waste and minimal tissue. I also provide organic/biodegradable shampoo, conditioner and body wash Noises - Living on the water brings about its own set of noises. Besides the ducks quacking, the fish jumping, you will also hear the train. Towards the front of the cottage runs a goods train track. The train passes by on occasion and there is no fixed schedule. Kids love the train and some adults say it reminds them of their childhood or a french countryside. Whatever the case maybe, goods traveling by train is good for the economy and the environment. If you think the train will disturb you during your stay, our cottage might not be the right fit for you. We live in the country and you might encounter an occasional spider, files, and other creatures to varying degrees. We do not use poison on the main level as we have pets We are dog owners and the cottage is pet friendly. If you are allergic to pets, please take this into consideration. This part of the creek is accessible only to the homes on the creek, which means there is no public access, but that also means we have neighbors. People on the creek refer themselves to "cricksters" . The cricketers, some of whom have grown up on this part of the creek welcome newcomers and their guests. We love to swim, boat, kayak, and wave out to everyone. At the front of the house, across the street is a train track. A goods train passes by on occasion, sometimes once a day, some times once every hour. We have lived here almost every weekend for four years and haven't been able to figure it out a schedule. The train so far has not been a disturbance to either us or our guests. Moving freight by rail is a carbon saver and reduces highway congestion. Some say the sound of the train is calming, some say it reminds them of their childhood, but if you are a light sleeper, or don't like any kind of noise, ChezRiveGauche might not be the place for you.

The SpaceLocated on the Esopus Creek. The location is PERFECT! Very serene. Plenty of ducks and squirrels and birds to watch and listen to as the water slowly moves past. Completely remodeled 1930's cottage features modern amenities all on one floor (1284 square feet). Nicely decorated with pieces and art from Arts and Craft period through mid-century. Very homey and yet elegant. Kitchen features all stainless steel appliances and has everything you need. House has central heat and air as well as a beautiful gas fireplace in the living room. Guest AccessThe entire house is yours to enjoy… except the basement which houses heaters etc. Interaction with GuestsI am available through emails and by telephone The NeighborhoodThe location is less than 15 minutes away from the Village of Saugerties and about the same distance from Kingston's shopping (about 15 minutes to historic downtown Kingston). The street that it is on is quiet and has a country feel without the isolation. Getting AroundParking is on the property. Other Things to NoteAlthough this does not bother me and I am a light sleeper, I know some people are very light sleepers. I want to let you know that I there is the light rumble of slow moving trains. The tracks run parallel between my neighborhood and Rt9W. The trains move very slowly and infrequently. My house is very well insulated and it is barely audible. It has never woken me up or my friends. Most guests who have commented on it have actually enjoyed the distant rumble. One guest did point it out as being slightly bothersome (although still have the place a 5 star rating), so I am mentioning it now for full disclosure. I have a white noise machine available in the master bedroom should you find that it is troubling.

Situated overlooking and a short walk or drive from the popular Rondout district with its marina, cafe's, restaurants, galleries and antique stores, uptown Kingston (and some of the oldest buildings in the country) is also a short drive to experience it's farmers markets, galleries, antiques, and dining. The historic towns of Rhinebeck, Stoneridge, Woodstock, Rosendale, New Palz, and Red Hook are all within a 20 minute drive as is Bard College. Built in 1898 by noted architect Mr. Hillier for local Hardware mogul Mr. Townshend, the stone and wood work takes you back to a time of fine craftsmanship and elegant living. The Vaux is a peaceful room set at the back of La Maison Bleue, giving it the beautiful aspect of views of Big old pine trees and oaks in the summer or the Catskill mountain range when the leaves are gone. It's decor is mostly retro, but it has some of my favorite antiques too, in it's furnishings. The very comfortable big brass bed is made up with antique French linen sheets (many are hand made and 100 years old) which are sumptuous to sleep in. High speed wifi and modern amenities remind you that you are in the modern world after all. The bathroom is just next door, and in its original 1920's incarnation, with stunning large Art Deco basin and mirror set. Guest AccessYou are welcome to relax on the large porches to soak up a sunrise or sunset over the catskill mountain range or look out on the street lined with trees and stunning historic mansions. We have a pool for those that enjoy swimming in the warm season. Feel free to relax and enjoy the home at your leisure. The kitchen is not a shared area but tea/coffee making facilities are available in the dining room. Interaction with GuestsWe will show you around, make sure you are comfortable and know how to contact us for help or information. After that we give your privacy to relax and enjoy your rooms, the home and the scenery. We have our own apartment on the third floor, so the main home can be enjoyed by the guests in privacy. The NeighborhoodJust a few minutes from dining in the popular Roundout area with its antique stores, galleries and marina.  As well you will be within 20 minute a drive to Woodstock, Stoneridge, Saugerties, Rhinebeck, Bard College and all the activities in the area such as walking, hiking, rock climbing and skiing.  Uptown Kingston is also nearby and worth a visit to check out the farmers market restaurants, bars, cafés and beautiful historic buildings. West Chestnut St is one of the most beautiful streets in Kingston known for its historic homes. Jervis McEntee the famous landscape artist lived on the street with his family including the famous colonel, as did Calvert Vaux who was the renowned landscape architect and partner to Frederic Olmsted who designed Central Park in NYC. A walk down the end of the street will find you at the cemetery also designed by him (where he is also laid to rest). It is a beautiful place to walk as its natural landscape may remind you somewhat of Central Park. get·a·way ˈɡedəˌwā/ noun informal a vacation.”a perfect family getaway” We found our calling for a getaway purely by accident wanting to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city with our dogs. A few clicks on the website that Craig Newmark founded, we found us a nice cottage on the Esopus creek where we spent the day catching up on conversations and swimming with the dogs in between our wine therapy. At one point, we looked at each other and our happy pooches and said to each other “We should do this every weekend". And so we did….and found “Chez Rive Gauche" a simple, warm and very inviting waterfront getaway a short 90 minute drive from NYC. So if you dream about escaping from a busy work week to relax by the water; canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, watching breathtaking sunsets and beautiful starry nights, Chez Rive Gauche is the perfect getaway for you. “Chez", as we lovingly call it, sits on the beautiful Esopus creek and is fully furnished with global and vintage finds. While you may not want to leave the cottage and the never ending fun “creek" side, there are a number of historic towns like Woodstock, Kingston, Saugerties and Rhinebeck within 10 miles to enjoy festivals, flea markets, restaurants, farmers markets, shopping and antiquing. We also do not have a dishwasher or laundry facilities. ( a Laundromat is a five min drive away) If you are staying for more than a week, fresh linens and towels will be provided. For more pics checkout #chezrivegauche on IG The cottage is located on a dead end street but we do have neighbours. The cottage is within a 20 min drive to downtown Saugerties, Kingston, Rhinebeck, Red Hook and Woodstock. Guest have free range to every aspect of the house on the first level. (no access to the basement which houses the heating units etc) Any and all goodies stocked in the cottage are there for your enjoyment. Here is a more comprehensive list of amenities and features that will be available to you: Indoor Tub with shower Indoor Toilet Organic Shampoo/Conditioner Towels Parking Sofa bed (in living room) Television with Netflix 2 rocking chairs dining table with 6 chairs outdoor table with 6 chairs (top deck) 2 deck chairs (lower deck) Books Linen/room spray made with essential oils.
