Perfect for couples, a small family, or individuals looking to get away from the city and take it down a notch. and relax. Just 30 miles south of the North Carolina border, this lovely property backs up to 10,000 acres of Chattahoochee National Forest and is the perfect base camp for both adventure and relaxation -- even in the same day. After a day of activity you can take in the sunset and sweeping views of the surrounding mountains from the expansive front porch with a glass of wine in hand. Most activities are within 20 minutes of the cabin. Enjoy kayaking and whitewater rafting on the world famous Chattooga River, mountain biking, golf, or boating on Lake Burton and Lake Rabun. If fly-fishing is your thing, enjoy world class fly-fishing on any number of crystal clear streams in the Chattooga watershed all the way up to Highlands or Cashiers North Carolina. Be sure to visit historic downtown Clayton for an afternoon of antiquing and a nice glass of wine at Fortify or The White Birch Inn -- Clayton's two best fine dining options. For a more laid back atmosphere try The Universal Joint for beers and live music. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire property except for the barn. We have super-fast WIFI so you can stay connected. We want all our guests to have WIFI access however, data is limited so please don't use bandwidth hogging applications like streaming (TV, Netflix, etc). Besides, you are in the mountains so unplug, step outside, listen to the wind in the pines, and enjoy nature. The graphics are amazing! Interaction with GuestsWe will likely be in Atlanta while our guests are staying here The NeighborhoodOne thing you will notice here is the quiet and solitude. It is remarkably quiet except for the crickets at night, the rain on the tin roof, or the occasional coyote howling in the forest. Rabun County is know for its natural beauty, waterfalls, forest, and boasts a tremendous variety of outdoor activities. There is so much to do here -- whether your passion is whitewater rafting, hiking, winery tours, antiquing, bluegrass music, or simply relaxing in the shade and reading or taking a nap. If you enjoy boating, Lake Burton is only 15 minutes away and Lake Rabun is 30 minutes down the road. Both lakes have marinas where guests can rent boats, jet-skis, or paddle boards.
Be sure to visit The Bridge Creek Deli (within walking distance of the cabin) for fresh local goat cheese or have the owner Pat make you a delicious panini.
If you love wine and viticulture then Rabun County is the perfect place to explore Georgia's nascent winery scene. Stonewall Creek Vineyard offers tastings almost year-round in a beautiful setting only 2 miles from the cottage. Sip wine on their porch and learn about local varietals from Carl and Carla Fackler. Tiger Mountain Vineyard is also nearby: 15 minutes away near downtown Tiger. Tiger is a charming little town along old 441 boasting several antique shops and a old time drive in theater. If Bluegrass music is your thing there is a local bluegrass jam every Friday night during summer at the corner convenience store and on Saturdays in nearby downtown Tallulah Falls.
Historic downtown Clayton is only 15 minutes away -- offering bars, coffee shops, and a number of great restaurants we can recommend (so don't be afraid to ask). There is great hiking right outside the back door up into the National Forest or Wildcat Creek near Lake Burton. Getting AroundWe live on a dirt road so there is occasional traffic but the neighbors are super friendly so be sure to wave as they drive by. Other Things to NoteAlthough this cottage can accommodate 2-4 people comfortably it is quite small -- 640 square feet so it is ideal for singles, couples or small families. We spend much of our time outside or on the expansive front porch. The space has one bedroom, a loft upstairs, and a futon in the living room that folds out to sleep two. A blow up mattress is available in the loft for an additional two guests if needed.
