The SpaceLiving in a log home was always my dream. Now at Cove's End, the dream is true for myself and our guests, who can enjoy the house themselves... for a week or more. Guests have access to the entire house and grounds, a private beach, and a location which is like being in a private park. WE are not there when you are at Cove's End. There is a caretaker available in case you need help, but no one is on the property when you are. Cove's End is at the end of a private road which is part of a network of private dirt roads.Down a 300 foot driveway. Neighbors are not seen, but are there. Lamoine Beach, a mile long crescent sand beach, is a 10 minute walk away. Parking space is available near the house. There is no public transportation and a car is needed to explore the area. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house and grounds, private beach, plus easy access to Lamoine town beach (10 min walk), secluded coves, yet is an easy drive to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park or Ellsworth. Interaction with Guests We are not on site when guests are in the house. We have a caretaker who lives nearby and can be reached when needed. Guests can always reach us by email or telephone with any questions or concerns. The NeighborhoodCove's End is at the end of a network of private roads. Though there are neighbors, they cannot be seen or heard. We love the privacy and woods surrounding us, with the entire Raccoon Cove to see from the house and deck. Our private beach leads to long flat rocks perfect for sunbathing and wading. The Lamoine Beach is a mile long crescent sand beach reachable by foot or car (parking available). The mountains of Acadia can be seen from this beach, which is rarely crowded and exemplifies the "quiet side" of Acadia. Getting AroundA car is recommended to access Ellsworth, Bar Harbor. Cars can be parked at Trenton, where free buses to Acadia National Park, with off and on stops in the park. The SpaceThe farmhouse is situated on over two acres of open grass, fruit trees, and a picturesque red barn, surrounded by woods with no neighbors in sight. Most rooms face south, with broad, bright views of Lucky's Field, occasional seasonal views of Raccoon Cove, and Sargeant Mountain and Acadia National Park beyond. This old house is equipped with all modern conveniences—wi-fi, smart TV, bluetooth stereo, full country kitchen—plus outdoor games and seating, a well-stocked library of books, and much more. Vintage furniture includes incredibly comfy couches, a large desk, and seating for up to six. Outside, a front porch under the lilacs provides a serene spot to relax in one of the Adirondack chairs. The back patio is ideal for evening gatherings and barbecues. A perennial garden attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Come dusk, you may hear the drumming of a grouse or the ethereal song of a thrush. Fireflies and crickets provide lively evening entertainment. Spring brings the blossoming of the fruit trees, and the autumn foliage is sublime. The wildlife here is phenomenal: you're likely to spot eagles and osprey, foxes, and a variety of warblers in the woods. We've even seen a moose on the property. There are three bedrooms upstairs (1 queen, 1 full, 2 twin beds), 2 baths (one downstairs), kitchen with new refrigerator and dishwasher, double parlor, dining room, sunroom and mud room. Outdoor amenities include a picnic table, a charcoal barbecue, kayaks (two singles and a double), bicycles (5 adult mountain bikes, 1-2 kid-size), as well as beach chairs, coolers, and clamming equipment you can take to the nearby beaches. Some of Our Prior Guests' Comments: “This was truly one of our most wonderful family vacations. The farmhouse is gorgeous, the property lovely and the location absolutely perfect." “Family meals in the kitchen, frisbee in the yard, and Lamoine State Beach were excellent things to do. Thank you for your tasteful and welcoming place." “What a great place! We loved exploring the house and yard. The kids picked raspberries along the periphery, and we had a terrific football game in front of the barn." “We feel like we've found a real jewel. None of us was ready to leave, and we can't wait to come back!" Guest AccessGuests are free to make themselves at home at the farmhouse. Interaction with GuestsWe live part time at the farmhouse, the remainder of the time in San Francisco. We have a local property manager who keeps an eye on things while we're gone. The NeighborhoodBar Harbor and Acadia National Park are about a half-hour away, with miles of spectacular hiking trails. You can run the bikes up Cadillac Mountain or any of the carriage roads in Acadia, or explore the shoreline and islands of Frenchman's Bay by kayak or sailboat. Closer to home, It's a short walk or bike ride down quiet country roads to the secret swimming hole (known only by the locals) or to the shore's edge at Marlboro Beach. Also close by is Lamoine Beach (one of the few sandy beaches in the area) and the goat farm (delicious cheese!). You may also want to explore the little villages in the Blue Hill area, Penobscot, and Deer Isle, where you'll find not only antique stores, art galleries, and farmers' markets, but also impromptu farm stands and weekend open studios. Fairs, festivals, and live music shows are held just about every weekend in the summer. Eats in the area run the gamut from ice cream stands, lobster shacks and brewpubs to award-winning, locally sourced fine dining. At the house we keep a guest book with suggestions for activities, trips, restaurants, and more, along with a number of guidebooks and brochures. Getting AroundA car is pretty much required, as this is a very rural area. The town of Ellsworth (where you can get groceries, gas, and supplies) is about 15 minutes away by car. Other Things to NoteBe aware that the doorway to the sailors' room (with twin beds) has a curtain, not a full door. We're currently upgrading our well water system. In the meantime, while our well water is fine for cooking and washing up, we recommend drinking bottled water--we'll provide a five-gallon jug for you. We offer $100 off our weekly rate for multiple-week stays, and $100 off for returning guests.

Surrounded by woods and fruit trees with views of Raccoon Cove and the mountains of Acadia National Park, the house is serene and secluded, yet it's perfectly situated for exploring...it's a short walk or bike ride down a quiet country road to sandy beaches and a local swimming hole; you can explore the shoreline and islands of Frenchman's Bay by kayak or sailboat; and Acadia National Park is under a half-hour away. Visit the Farm when you're ready to slow down and enjoy a perfect vacation in Down East Maine. About the farmhouse: The story goes that the sunroom was originally the General Store for the area in the late 1700s; the shelves today display vintage glassware. The sunroom is a bright and cheerful room to curl up with a book on the cot or sort your seashells. You'll also find croquet, bocce ball, and horseshoes to take out on the lawn. The adjacent mudroom has a washer/dryer, ironing board, and iron. The kitchen is a terrific family hangout, with bench seats around the kitchen table, a moose chandelier, and exposed antique wooden beams along with wide, sunny views of Lucky's Field, Acadia's Sargeant Mountain beyond, and seasonal glimpses of Raccoon Cove. The living room, den, and dining room are off the kitchen. Each room is painted a different color. Vintage furniture includes incredibly comfy couches, a large desk, and seating for up to six.The farmhouse is on two+ acres surrounded by open grass and a big red barn, without a neighbor in sight. A front porch under the lilacs provides a serene spot to relax in one of the Adirondack chairs and take in the amazing view. The back patio is a delightful location for evening gatherings and barbecues. A colorful, fragrant perennial garden attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. The wildlife here is phenomenal: you're likely to spot eagles and osprey soaring overhead, and a variety of warblers in the woods. We've also seen moose and foxes on the property. Come dusk, you may hear the drumming of a grouse or the ethereal song of a thrush. Fireflies and crickets provide lively evening entertainment. And if you're here in the fall, the autumn foliage is spectacular. Outdoor amenities also include a picnic table, a charcoal barbecue, kayaks, bicycles, and beach chairs, coolers, and clamming equipment you can take to the nearby beaches. Some of our prior guests' comments: "This was truly one of our most wonderful family vacations. The farmhouse is gorgeous, the property lovely and the location absolutely perfect." "Family meals in the kitchen, frisbee in the yard, and Lamoine State Beach were excellent things to do. Thank you for your tasteful and welcoming place." "What a great place! We loved exploring the house and yard. The kids picked raspberries along the periphery, and we had a terrific football game in front of the barn." "We feel like we've found a real jewel. None of us was ready to leave, and we can't wait to come back!" Rentals are Saturday through Saturday during peak season. $100 off weekly rate for multiple week stay. $100 off weekly rate for returning guests. Security deposit required to hold your reservation: $650. Cleaning fees are deducted from the deposit ($100). We welcome well-behaved dogs with prior approval for an additional $15/day. Extra guests over 6 with prior approval an additional $20/day. It's a short walk or bike ride down quiet country roads to the secret swimming hole (known only by the locals) or to the shore's edge at Marlboro Beach. Also close by is Lamoine Beach (one of the few sandy beaches in the area) and the goat farm (delicious cheese!). Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are under a half-hour away, with miles of spectacular hiking trails. You can run the bikes up Cadillac Mountain or any of the carriage roads on Mount Desert Island, or explore the shoreline and islands of Frenchman's Bay by kayak or sailboat. You may also want to explore the villages on the Island or the Blue Hill area, Penobscot, and Deer Isle, where you'll find not only antique stores, art galleries, and farmers' markets, but also impromptu farm stands and weekend open studios.
