The SpaceWelcome to the Zen house! Entering the home, you find the open layout of kitchen, dining room and living space accented by a beautiful and custom oak staircase. Unlike any other, the home is a comfortable collection of elements; a gas fireplace made of natural stone and re-purposed brick, the darker metals of the exterior, deck, and staircase, contrast with the stainless steel sinks and appliances of our kitchen and bathroom. The entire home is light-filled, and also protected from the harsh afternoon sun. The orientation of our best views from the house is east, toward sunrises and moon rises. The large second-floor deck opens to the south and east. The common spaces on the two levels of our house are uncluttered, warm and inviting. There is a yoga studio on the second level. We offer 100% cotton towels, sheets and bedding for our guests. We have one queen size bed loft style for sleeping on the second floor. There is a double size futon bed by the fireplace on the first floor. Sounds of nature, and the quiet of night, greet you at every open window, as the house is out of view and away from the roads in the valley below. We are just 40 minutes southeast of Rochester, MN and Mayo Clinic. Guest AccessOur guests have exclusive access to all of the following: Kitchen (convection oven and gas range, microwave, cookware, and refrigerator -not shared, for guests only!) We have a small cupboard filled with cooking oils, vinegar, salt, pepper and some spices. Pots, pans and dishware. Gas fireplace, central heating and air conditioning controls, bathtub, walk-in shower with large, automated steam room, gas fireplace in dining area, second floor deck, the upstairs of the house includes a 1/2 bath, sleeping loft with queen-sized bed, TV area, and sitting area with plenty of beautiful cherry floor space for gazing out of the floor-to-ceiling windows. The first floor can be entered without climbing stairs, and offers full accessibility for guests with limited mobility. Outside of the home, we have two large lawns, gardens, fire ring, and mowed walking paths. The house has a laundry room and large attached garage & studio which are not accessible to guests. Guests may park anywhere in front of the garage. Registered guests only please. Please bring flashlights for using around the grounds in the evenings. Interaction with GuestsWe allow you complete privacy during your stay. Caretakers are near by. Once booked, we will email you complete and detailed check-in instructions. We can be reached by telephone if a need arises. Please complete all of the Air B and B verifications, especially if you are new to Air B and B and have not been reviewed by another host. We require that you check in with us after arrival via text or call. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood around our home is very spread out. A total of four other homes, the closest almost a quarter mile down the road, are visible from the property. Each of the neighboring homes are on large acreage. Hundreds of acres of woods and fields are visible from inside and outside the house, as we sit on one of several visible bluffs, within a larger valley. The larger valley is primarily occupied by the Duschee Creek, woods, and a few small farms, with expansive hay and corn fields along the steep hillsides. The foot of our property is marked by an old stream bed, which winds down the scenic county road away from our property. The setting is rolling and bucolic. This is Minnesota's driftless region, which remained untouched by glaciers during the last ice age. The town of Lanesboro has been named Minnesota's most popular B&B area boasting a thriving arts community, the Root River Bike trail, Commonweal Theater and popular local restaurants. Getting AroundYou will need a motor vehicle to access our house and the nearby town of Lanesboro, which is located approximately one mile from our driveway. It is possible for experienced cyclists, or avid walkers, to pass safely along the route to Lanesboro. Outside of Lanesboro, the area is sparsely populated. The nearest international airport is located in Rochester, MN, approximately 35 miles away. Public transportation to Rochester by bus is offered on weekday mornings only, picking up passengers in two nearby towns. The Asahi Loft is the perfect place for a writer's retreat with special rates. Asahi Loft of Harmony is on the edge of the picturesque community of Harmony. Only 5 blocks from the center of town, just off Highway 52 and halfway between Decorah, Iowa and Lanesboro. Fall and Winter have become our "busy season" with cross county skiing, hiking and snow shoeing replacing the bikes. We can direct you to several stretches of the Harmony Bike trail that are great for beginners. Even if there is a small snowfall, these areas hold the snow and the wildlife and winding creek make for a picturesque jaunt. Harmony does not "shut down" after October. Our restaurants remain open all year and two are open 7 days a week. We can help you find wonderful ways to fill your time. Or curl up in front of the fireplace and practice being "mindful".
