The SpaceEnjoy the beauty and serenity of vacationing in the Red Feather Lakes area. We're minutes away from many lakes, hiking trails, the National Forest, and miles of off-road trails. Dining, movies, etc. is available in Ft. Collins 45 minutes away. Your accommodations are a private room with a queen size bed, and a 3/4 private bath in the walkout style basement of our home. The room is newly painted and carpeted, decorated to fit in with the country feel of the rest of the house. The bed is protected by bug resistant cover. We also have a sofa, and air bed available for larger parties. There is an electric baseboard heat, which you control, as well as a wood burning stove to heat the entire lower floor. A private covered patio is right outside your room, equipped with your own grill, and outdoor dining set. We also have an open exercise area with a Bow Flex, glider, and more. The upstairs kitchen is available as a communal space, as is the upper deck overlooking the backside of Rocky Mountain National Park, where you can actually view glaciers on the distant mountains. There is also a small galley kitchen available downstairs. Continental breakfast is included in your stay. Also, during your stay, we're able to offer any or all of your other meals, including romantic dinners for two, picnic baskets, or family style meals for a reasonable price. Lee loves using the local honey, wines from a local winery, and other produce when in season to showcase the wonderful variety we have available, despite our secluded location. We also have several local establishments for dining that we can recommend. Guest AccessYou'll have access either through the main floor of the house, or a private entrance through the walk-out basement door. Interaction with GuestsWe would love for you to feel comfortable enough to consider us friends but not to feel obligated to visit with us during your stay. This is our home, so all we ask is the respect due, and for you to expect nothing less in return. The NeighborhoodWe tell everyone we bought a beautiful view, and a nice house came with it! What we love is looking out our windows and seeing a family of mule deer, or a fox running across the drive. We are sometimes visited by bear, mountain lions, and a host of other wildlife, whose neighborhood we live in. We are amazed at the amount of stars we can see from here, including the Milky Way as our night time ceiling. We can't say enough about the silence, other than the humming of the many hummingbirds, or the songs of the many mountain species we are still learning about. The wild flowers in the summer are miniature in size, but gigantic in the beauty they provide. We love exploring the nearby Poudre Canyon, as well as the many dirt roads leading to an adventure in almost any direction. Our house sits on 2.5 acres at the end of the road, next to a national forest area. Getting AroundNo public transportation, and the vehicle of your choice would depend on the level of your adventurous nature. May need 4 wheel drive during the winter months. Other Things to NoteWe have pets: two cats and a dog; if you have pets as well, we may be able to accommodate your pets needs, but will have to take it on a case by case basis. One of the things we would like to stress to our guests is, if you need or want anything while you are in our stay, please don't hesitate to ask. We want to be given the chance to make this one of your most memorable vacations ever. We can tailor most of your vacation wishes to fit your needs with advance communications, so just let us know what you need and we'll do our best.

Interaction with GuestsI trust guests with directions to the cabin and the code for the lockbox. My interaction is minimal~ I trust my guests to care for this extra-ordinary space. It always makes me more comfortable when I know guests have arrived safely and found the key, etc. There's a landline and if guests are so inclined I love to hear they made it! (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) There is Verizon service as a rule. Landline # (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) The NeighborhoodThe peaceful quiet nature of this setting is spectacular. The river offers the sound of healing rushing water! Within about 7 miles one may find the Roaring Creek waterfall trailhead. A short hike to the falls! The day hike there finds several large ponds atop the mountain. In winter the sense of touching into one's roots is exemplified by the frozen ice on the river a foot or more thick. The river and the view says it all. Hiking trails, rafting, fishing, a country store and a restaurant as well as Roosevelt National Forest are all close by. Partway up the mountain on your way to the cabin on the right side, find Mishawaka Inn. Known locally for fine entertainment experienced nearly atop the river! Getting AroundThere is no public transit in the Cache la Poudre Canyon. The cabin is approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes from Fort Collins, and close to 3 hours from DIA. Winter may require 4X4 and lot's more time. Other Things to NoteThe cabin is pine inside and out, is surrounded by beautiful spruce, pine and cottonwood trees. The path will lead you down to the sitting rocks at the river. Please respect the neighbors who kindly offer us access by staying to the path to get to the river. Thanks! A note: This is a quiet comfy space. It is NOT a place to come party w/ a large group of friends.

The SpaceVery few cabins this size are available in the Poudre Canyon, especially a complete house and property like this one. One room with a double bed and another with twin beds accommodate four nicely. Guest AccessVirtually every Colorado mountain activity, summer or winter is nearby. Access to several wilderness areas are just up the road, as well as several forest trails. Lake and river fishing are just as close. There's also lots of room for play in the yard or the meadow. The cabin property is not located directly on the Poudre River but river access is available a short walking distance away, and at the many parking locations along the scenic river route. There are local convenience stores nearby that provide fishing licenses, some fishing supplies, snacks and souvenirs. A summer outdoor food patio, a full restaurant with lounge, and a liquor store are in the vacinity. Interaction with GuestsThe owners live nearby to provide assistance and offer area information, but also cherish your privacy as much as you do. Likely we'll be around while you're here, and if not, a contact who knows the property will be available. The NeighborhoodWe love that we're on Cache La Poudre River Wild and Scenic Route. We are "far from the madding crowd," yet you can find what you need nearby. We can share our favorite hikes that are drop-jaw beautiful and very much on the "road less traveled." Getting AroundIf you're flying in, we recommend you drive the easy one hour north to Fort Collins. Fort Collins will be a great place to shop for groceries and supplies for your stay. Then meander up curvy scenic West Highway 14 with the river at your side for another hour. Other Things to NoteBring layers of clothes. We're at 7300 feet elevation, so it can be the full gamut of weather. Hikes can take you to 10,000 feet with completely different weather. Colorado nights with no interfering city light will give you views of the stars you'll never forget. Nights are chilly. Lucky you'll have a nice fireplace... Items available in Cozy Cabin: *Firewood - a conservative amount. *Satellite TV. *Blu-Ray DVD player. *Soundbar Speaker with Bluetooth. *Wireless Internet. *Cuisine Griddler, electric skillet, toaster, toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot and filters, selection of spices, cards, puzzles, some paperbacks and area brochures. Items you will want to bring: *Warm slippers *Flashlight Items of note: *Cell Phones - once you turn west into the mountains on West Highway 14, cell phone service hardly exists. Verizon users will have service at Tandem Cottage, the resort next door and the firehouse just a short distance away. The SpaceThis rustic mountain paradise is cozy, very private and loaded with charm. Nestled in the shadows of Profile Rock, it’s within healing distance of the rushing Poudre – a wild waterway that starts as a trickle in the snowmelt above timberline and tumbles down the canyon with drama and beauty. The river is only a stone’s throw away down the hill and there are more than 100 yards of private property to explore. The trout are challenging but can be coaxed onto your line, or you can sit on a large rock at river’s edge and reach deep inside to unravel issues that need to flow downstream. Remnants of the cabin’s humble past are visible everywhere. A favorite is the massive relic of a stove in the kitchen—part wood-burning (to warm away any chills), and part electric (to cook up a delicious breakfast on the other side). An old-fashioned electric percolator brews a fine cup of coffee after you light the match to start the fire, after which you might catch the flutter of hummingbirds dropping by for an early-morning sip outside. A screened wrap-around porch with iron beds allows you to breathe in the scent of pine and let the sound of the river lull you to sleep under scattered stars. During the day you can chat on the porch swing or recline with a book on the love seat. Evenings you can linger long after dinner around a candle-lit porch table for eight, sipping wine and trying to remember what you were so stressed about before you came. Halfway down to the river is a playhouse your children will love (adults have also been known to escape there for a midday snooze). Complete with bunk beds and a few toys, it has a deck over a small stream for tea parties. Another thing the children will love is the elevated train track in the main cabin that circumnavigates the kitchen and detours into the livingroom. Everyone loves the nearby hikes – up the road to Roaring Creek and South Fork trails or further up to Lake Agnes, American Lakes, the Crags and Cameron Pass. Moose are often spotted on these high-altitude climbs and you can see Rocky Mountain National Park from the highest point above American Lakes. This isn’t Aspen living. It’s more like camping without the cold hard ground. The 1-1/2 bathrooms are pretty basic, but they do the job. One has a shower stall. This is not a granite countertop type of place. But it’s wonderful. There’s a saying that goes “The outside of a horse is the best thing for the inside of a man”. This cabin really does do something for the inside of a person. Each time anyone visits, they can’t wait to come back. Just ask any of the family members and friends who have enjoyed it for more than 50 years. The cabin is most comfortable for 6 or less people. Over 6 people or children there is a $25 per person fee. In a nutshell, amenities include: Sleeping arrangements: 1 private upstairs attic bedroom with two double beds 2 double beds on the wrap-around porch 1 comfortable queen-sized sleeper sofa in living room 2 short-ish bunk beds in play house Living Room: 1 old television set and DVD player (DVD’s can be rented down the road at Archer’s, about one mile away) Board games Large stone fireplace (decorative only) Lovely propane fireplace to sit by and take the chill off Antique train runs on elevated track thru living room and kitchen Bathrooms: 1 full bath with standing shower stall ½ bath with commode and sink Kitchen: Table for 7-8 in kitchen nook Wood-burning/electric stove Stocked with dinnerware, silverware, cooking utensils, many spices Toaster Percolator Porch: Another table for 8 Porch swing Love seat Other inclusions: Pack n Play for the little ones Walker for the older ones Getting AroundOne hour west from Fort Collins. The SpaceTwo private bedrooms with super comfy beds. Open loft with double bed (futon) and single bed. Spacious and beautiful 'cabin' for use by those that are willing to respect and appreciate the work that has been put forth to make this place so special. Guest AccessMain rooms and closets are open for use. There are extra jackets and items that you may need to borrow during your stay! There is a crawl space below the home (access hole is in the back east bedroom closet so be careful not to step into the closet). No need to access the crawl space! A full inventory with photos has been compiled so owners are aware of how things were left. Interaction with GuestsWe are more than happy to provide you with ideas of things to see and do in the vicinity. Please let us know your interests and hopes for your trip so we don't overwhelm you with options. It is very likely that we will not meet you on your trip but we are available by phone, email, etc. to answer any questions. The NeighborhoodThe northern Colorado mountains have so much to offer in addition to their pure beauty! We know you'll love it! Getting AroundDay trips and other info: Yes, the cabin is fairly remote in the sense of not being near a town, but you will still feel like you are around people (as much or little as you choose), and driving to other places will be part of the adventure! We've had lots of friends stay there over the years and they've all loved the location even though driving is involved. Check out the guidebook portion of the listing for local amenities. Fishing licenses are necessary if you plan to fish. Stop in to JAX to get info and licenses. (URL HIDDEN) You may also get licenses up the canyon, but not equipment. Here are some other suggestions and bits of info that may be helpful: Shop for the week when you are ready to leave Fort Collins to head up the canyon (you won't find 'fresh' grocery options up the canyon - just packaged type food & a restaurant or two that serve basic food). There is a nice shopping center on the north end of Fort Collins where you can get everything you need. (URL HIDDEN) You will want to make sure to fill up with gas and purchase liquor in the same shopping center. Both are available up the canyon, but selection is limited. You can use our King Soopers code of (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) to get discounts. Note that we do have many of the kitchen basics up there already (spices, oils, etc.). We also have a starter supply of TP & basic bath necessities. When you're done shopping stay north on Hwy 287 (College Ave) almost two miles then merge right (may say to Laramie). You'll curve around a bit, then go down a hill and bend to the right. Once you bend right, get in the left lane and watch the signs to turn at Ted's Place, Hwy 14/Poudre Cnyn Rd. (URL HIDDEN) Then you have about 45 minutes of driving up the canyon. Go past mile marker 90 and you'll see the cabin on the hill. The drive is just beyond. There is no phone service in the canyon unless you can connect to Wi-Fi (available at the cabin). Along the way you will see many options for hiking, sitting by the river, etc. Beyond the cabin you have more opportunity to spend time at high mountain lakes, see moose (take a drive to the end of Long Draw Road and/or up to Cameron Pass), and see fewer people. If you plan to hike we can give you all sorts of different options (easy to hard, flat to steep) & definitely bring adequate shoes and clothing for all sorts of weather (layers and rain gear are important). We have a few things like scarves, jackets, etc at the cabin you can use too. Rocky Mountain National Park is truly a must-see since you're so close! (URL HIDDEN) I'd suggest doing this after you've had a couple days to adjust to the altitiude. Leave the cabin early in the morning (get gas at Archers ahead of time if you plan to take the mountain beautiful mountain route rather than heading in to Fort Collins), stop in Estes for a quick bite to eat and tourist shopping, maybe drive by the Stanley Hotel, etc., then head into the Park (fee required). Make sure you have water and drink it all day. Remember your camera and jackets - - can be cold up that high! Visitor center is a nice place to stop and then turn around, or you can go all the way thru to the other side of the pass and drive the back way to the cabin (URL HIDDEN) No matter what you do, you'll be tired at the end of the day so don't plan too much for the next morning! You'll find that if you're heading somewhere, you'll probably want to combine other activities along the way (like a dinner in Old Town Fort Collins, gathering more groceries, etc.), so some fore-thought is always helpful. Red Feather (north of the cabin). There is a golf course (URL HIDDEN) and a restaurant over there that might be worth checking out. (URL HIDDEN) You can also look into raft trips, events at Mishawaka (URL HIDDEN) and stuff in town. Happy to help, so just let us know! Other Things to NotePhone service may be limited or unavailable in the home (depending on your cell provider). WiFi is available.
