The SpaceThe Laurel Highlands region is known for beauty, gentle green mountain slopes and abundant selection of year 'round activities. We love sharing our guest house on Airbnb - and meeting our visitors from around the world. We hope you'll visit us soon. You'll be staying in our renovated 3 bedroom / 2 bath cottage - a whole house for just about the cost of a hotel room. Our guest house was a former artist's home and studio, an eclectic, artistic, inviting and relaxing retreat awaits you. It has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 indoor fireplaces (one wood burning, one natural gas), two bathrooms and a fun and surprising mix of cottage antiques, original art and style. We are three miles from the historic town of Ligonier, PA with nearby dining, grocery and shopping, sights and museums...but situated in a small, rustic community (lots of trees, dirt roads and each cottage is unique) that will make your visit feel like a break from the routine. We have hiking and biking trails just minutes from our back deck. Spend the day at America's #1 family amusement park & water park - Idelwild / Soak Zone - just 7 miles away. Feeling a little more like staying close to home? Uncork a bottle of wine, cook your favorite dinner and settle in for the evening in restful evening in front of the fire and recharge in peace and quiet. It's an easy drive to two Frank Lloyd Wright houses - including his masterpiece "Fallingwater". Seasonally, lots of great outdoor activities are available nearby...including spring and summer rafting and tubing on the Stoneycreek River - about 20 miles from us in nearby Johnstown, PA. Beechwood Cottage accommodates a maximum of six guests. All reservations are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. In the event of duplicate bookings, the first party to provide payment will receive the confirmation. Price calculations have recently changed on Airbnb. Our daily price is $169 with weekends (Friday and Saturday) in June, July, August and October at $199. The price listed here includes Westmoreland County's Visitor Tax of 5% county imposed tax on visitor accommodations but 6% PA State Sales tax is now billed separately (we previously had included it in our total lodging price) by Airbnb. We also have a once per stay $45 cleaning charge. Airbnb also charges you (and us) a fee for their services. It's all a little more confusing than we wish it would be...aren't regulatory compliance's wonderful! But, if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. The bottom line is: there won't be any surprise expenses or requests for additional money when you arrive or anything like that. The price as shown to you is "all inclusive", it meets all required government tax regulations and includes all taxes and other expenses. Interaction with GuestsWe live behind the guest house and look forward to meeting all our visitors. If you need something during your stay, we're happy to try and help out but we also keep out of your way. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is one of the most unusual in the area, if not the state. Originally conceived in the 1930s as a group of summer vacation homes, over time around half of the houses have been converted to full time living. It may be hard to believe, but there are about 90 houses, nearly all dating to the mid 1930s and 1940s, tucked under and through the trees onto our five streets! Each cottage is as unique as the person who built it and our guests have told us they love walking through our two miles of dirt roads and admiring the diversity and charm of the community. In the 1980s, our community left the larger township and formed our own municipality, something that has not (to our knowledge) been repeated since. As the borough of Laurel Mountain we are complete with an elected mayor and borough council. Not bad for a community of around 180 people! It's a neighborhood unlike any other and we think you'll enjoy it as much as we do - our house is through the gate behind the cottage. Other Things to NoteWe get a lot of questions about pets. We are animal lovers and have a cat of our own. Unfortunately, we don't allow pets at any time in our guest cottage - even small, well behaved ones. We have hand painted floors in most of the house and we don't want them to be subjected to animal feet and claws. We also like to be 100% confident for our guests with allergies that is always a pet free environment.

Getting AroundThe cottage is located off Route 30 and less than 4 miles from 711 and 15 minutes from the Donegal Turnpike exit. While the cottage is surrounded by woods without views of neighbors, the site is only .3 miles walking distance to the quaint cottage community of Laurel Mountain Borough where there is a community center, pool, and beautiful cottages nestled among mature trees. There is a three-mile loop that local "walkers" and bikers take Nature run to Horner Hill (less than a mile) and then turn right up Horner Hill and follow it to Hall Street. Hall street dies into Nature run at the property line of Fox Haven cottage. It is a good hike! In the winter, the paved asphalt road is plowed. Note that the Laurel Mountain area receives cooler temperatures and last year, quite a bit of snow in a short period. Great for skiing! It is appropriate to have vehicle transportation that is reliable in snowy conditions.
