Altona Meadows is a gateway to the Princess freeway, Geelong, the Great Ocean Road, 12 Apostles, beautiful Bells Beach and other surf beaches as well as small seaside villages. In the other direction there is Ballarat with Kryall Castle, Soveriegn Hill, Eureka Stockade, Fairy Park at Anakie and then Bendigo further on. Both have great gold mining histories. Everything is great for all ages however, the site stories and re-enactment of the rebellion at Eureka Stockade - the birthplace of Australian Democracy - in Ballarat are fantastic. Further on is South Australia and Adelaide. Sydney is in another direction along the Hume Highway. Other Things to NoteThis is a quiet, safe, coastal suburb. Follow the walking & bicycling path to get you to the boating, windsurfing, swimming and fishing/pier areas which all lead to Altona Village main shopping strip. *There are free bicycles you can use to explore the coast instead of walking if you wish.
