The Space Right in the heart of downtown Lawrence, guests will be able to walk out to the energy of Massachusetts street and discover fine dining, shopping, and some of the best coffee shops in the country all while having access to a comfortable, quiet nights rest. Guest Access Guests will have access to the entire loft. One cool feature about The Loft which often is overlooked is the energy savings. The Loft features a Nest Learning Thermostat and according to a study by Airbnb, guests at locations with Nest thermostats use 63% less energy than staying at hotels! Interaction with Guests Guests will have complete privacy. I will be available if you would like to meet me. I'd be more than happy to share a little tour of the area with any guest if they would like assistance getting acquainted with downtown Lawrence. I'm also available for any questions and happy to give recommendations for coffee, restaurants, and bars. The NeighborhoodRight in all the happenings of downtown, guests will have plenty to do with direct front door access to the life of the city center. This neighborhood is one of the most historic in Kansas sitting right in the path of Quantrill's historic raid of Lawrence. I would suggest to my guests to stroll around the downtown via sidewalk, taking in all the historic markers and experiencing everything from the nationally recognized coffee shops, to unique cuisine, to local breweries (one of which was the first legal brewery opened in Kansas after prohibition; Free State Brewery). Local concerts occur almost every single night at venues from Liberty Hall to The Bottleneck to The Grenada, all within walking distance of The Loft. With plenty to see and do, you can always return to the loft to relax. Getting Around Many important features of Lawrence are nearby from Memorial football stadium to The University of Kansas to a number of Parks & Musuems. This is one of the many perks of the spot being located in beautiful and historic downtown Lawrence. This building used to house a Kansas senator and is located right on the path of Public transit is available via the Lawrence Bus route which is located within 1 block. Parking is often available on the main street but costs a quarter for each half hour. (Meters are only checked from 9:30am-6:00pm). A number of free parking lots are available within a block as well as a parking garage located exactly 1 block west of The Loft. If flying into Kansas City International, The Loft is the first exit for Lawrence (204) and just shortly off the I-70 route going west through Lawrence. Other Things to Note The Smart TV has available Netflix, Pandora, Youtube and other internet features. I commonly use the TV to play Pandora or Youtube music playlists when I'm getting ready or hanging out with friends.

The SpaceIts a nice little house with about 825 square feet. It was built in 1948 as part of the post war housing boom and is an early "ranch" style. The kitchen is small but has a nice gas stove, quiet dishwasher, microwave and apartment size refrigerator. There is an attached garage, but it is only for bicycles. Off street parking for cars is available. Guest AccessGuests have the whole house. It has basic cable with a 42 inch TV in living room one TV in a bedroom. We now have wifi! Interaction with GuestsI will probably only interact with guest at check in. I tend to let people have their privacy. I only live a block away from the Little House, so I can be there quickly if there are any problems. The NeighborhoodI like the location, and Lawrence is a cool town. The neighborhood has great access to south KC, KU, downtown, Haskell University and the Burroughs Creek bike trail. Getting AroundThe hike and bike trail is one block east. Other Things to NoteWe now have two queen beds. One bed has a memory foam mattress, and the other bedroom has a soft regular mattress.

The SpaceEnjoy the tranquil countryside in this unique rustic cottage. Apple Cottage was built in 2007 with timbers from Jenny's grandfather's farm. They were sawn on site, and assembled with the help of many volunteers. The straw-bale walls, adobe floor and earthen plasters are all locally sourced and sustainable. We have a penchant for hospitality and love to show people our unusual farm, buildings, projects etc. But if you just want to enjoy the peace and quiet, that's OK too. This 600 square foot cottage includes queen bed, loft with twin bed and optional air mattress. There is a love seat, walnut counter, wardrobe, wood stove, fan, electric kettle and some great books about natural building. Apple Cottage has no indoor plumbing, so we provide a pitcher and basin, a full bathroom in the main house (27 steps away) and an optional dry composting toilet. We have a working farm, with vegetable gardens, orchard, farm animals, and plenty of quiet roads for walking and biking. The sunsets and stars are amazing out here. Expect casual clean and a natural yard. A bountiful breakfast is included, with eggs from our own chickens. We are located 10 miles from I-70, an hour’s drive from MCI Airport, half an hour from Topeka and an hour from Kansas City. Lawrence, Kansas, home to the University of Kansas, is an easy 15 minute drive. The historic downtown features original eateries, a fantastic brew pub, great shopping, and a vibrant music scene. Nearby Perry Lake has fishing, boating, swimming and hiking. Guest AccessGuests can use the outhouse or the indoor bathroom in the main house with shower, sink and flush toilet any time. Breakfast served in the main house, usually between 7 and 9:30 am. If you like to cook, let us know ahead of time and you can use the kitchen as well. Because of our gravel paths and a short but steep hill, Apple Cottage may not be appropriate for folks with serious mobility challenges. Interaction with GuestsWe love to chat about our land and lifestyle, but we have work to do and animals to tend, so forgive us if we hustle off right after breakfast. The NeighborhoodApple Cottage is situated in the lovely rolling hills of rural NorthEast Kansas. Getting AroundThere is no transit out here, so you'll need a car or a sturdy bike. Other Things to NoteThe cottage has no air conditioning, and can get a little warm (85 degrees) in the daytime during July and August. With fans and windows open, it cools down nicely at night.

The SpaceIncludes private bath; kitchenette with sink, fridge with freezer, microwave, and many small appliances; one double bed, and a single futon; washer/dryer; fully furnished with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the room. Accommodates two. Guest AccessWeather permitting, three outdoor patio/deck areas available. There's a lovely screened-in porch that may be used for special occasions during good weather if arranged with host. Use of trail bikes also can be provided. Interaction with GuestsProfessional filmmaker, longtime Lawrence resident and a KU alum, I enjoy welcoming and introducing people to Lawrence. I live on a separate upper floor and can give personal tours of the town, campus or area if requested. Schedule permitting, available for KCI airport transport in a Subaru Forester. A seasoned traveler myself, I have hosted many long and short stays for international scholars and guests in my home and consider providing a comfortable and unique experience very important.

The SpaceHello, We renovated the kitchen (Fall 2014 still ongoing with small details and exterior left). Almost done! See photos. The downstairs half bath has an efficient stacked LG European-style washer and dryer and detergent there...please ONLY HE detergent--any other kind will . Upstairs bath has hair dryer, and a variety of shampoos, conditioners and soaps. Also a curling iron. (I don't use the dryer or curling iron so it if it not working let me know please! Iron and ironing board always ready to use. Free AT&T Uverse high speed wifi connection. Sorry, No Phone, very limited TV (can't even get local TV) but some channels have Netflix and Amazon Prime. When requesting to stay please let us know a little about who you are and why you are coming to Lawrence...We rent it out because we believe in peer-to-peer connections and use AirBNB whenever we travel. The House: Downstairs: large living/dining room and smaller adjacent sitting room, renovated kitchen, laundry and half bath (small office to left of stair is off limits). We have also allowed pets and are open to them...but they need to be supervised since pets react differently to strange contexts, so we ask that you clear it with us first and not leave them free ranging and unsupervised when you are not there unless you take full responsibility for their behavior. As you will find if you are new to AirBNB...once you reserve a place, AirBNB will offer you the opportunity to rent out your own shared room, private room, a whole house...whatever works...that is what happened to me...in April 2012. So join the community, meet great people (be great people) and enjoy! Guest AccessThe house sleeps 5 comfortably in three rooms--a queen, a double and a single. I do not charge a cleaning fee. The base fee is low so that I can accommodate reasonably singles and couples. The house is a little odd since the small sitting room is adjacent to the entry (where one would expect a living room) and the larger room is off the kitchen...where I have a dining set and futon couch...I mostly use this room for dinner parties and then people sit on the couch and on the dining chairs, so it's not as comfy as one would like if you want a 'clan gathering" kind of feel, maybe check out some other places. There is also a queen futon/couch downstairs. Guests are welcome to use the house and yard except for the study to left of stairs. Yard is still a work in progress but I have a person who promises to get the pond done by April 2017. Someone might be working in the backyard a little on the weekends, but I will warn you and you can block out times as needed. Interaction with GuestsI mostly leave my guests to themselves but am happy to interact, give advice etc. if desired. When I have guests, I stay at our country house. I live in town mostly during the school year when I am teaching. So I am more open to longer and weekday stays in summer than during the school year, but over time, I have become more open to longer school-time stays. The NeighborhoodLawrence is a small university town of 98,000 people on about 34 square miles that was founded in 1854. The Old East Lawrence neighborhood where my house is, is tree-lined, with many brick streets (like mine) and is quiet, safe, and mostly filled with older modest single-family homes in various stages of aging. Our neighborhood is not into manicured yards, we like to promote diversity and access to a variety of wild creatures (rabbits, squirrels, possums, mice, raccoons, and even a fox inhabit the neighborhood). Plenty of parking in the drive and on the street in front of the house. There is an unpaved back alley where the trash and recycling are located (early Wed. AM pickup weekly for trash; biweekly for recycling (blue container)--recycle everything EXCEPT plastic bags. The area is very diverse, neighborly, and close to downtown and the university. An excellent grocery store (recently reopened August 2012) is an easy bike ride away (about 5 blocks) Dillons, at the corner of 17th and NH/MASS. I use Checkers a local grocery at 23rd and Louisiana and have a community garden plot two lots to the north of the house...with rhubarb, tomatoes, lettuce, beets, herbs etc. that I am happy to share with you in season. The university is very close (only .9 mile to the major conference space/Jayhawk Blvd) but the last .2 mile is up a VERY steep hill. Downtown is about as far, and with no hills. Getting AroundAmple parking in the driveway and in front of the house. A public bus does go down our street, but it's not on a schedule. The downtown is very bike-able with a wide network of bike lanes. We have two bikes that are available but need some warning to be sure the tires are properly inflated--and lately it has become more complicated...but if someone is staying for an extended time without a car in nice weather , I would be happy to get the bikes road worthy again. Other Things to NoteThe stair to the second floor where the bedrooms are is steeper than current standards and has no handrail, so not recommended for the mobility challenged or older people (although I am both and manage). I have hired someone to install a removable handrail, but it might still be awhile before that is done--maybe spring 2017.

The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is historic Old West Lawrence with quiet, peaceful, tree lined streets. A twelve-block section of the neighborhood was the first neighborhood to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, back in the 1960"s. There is a range of beautiful houses dating back to the time of Quantrill's raid on Lawrence in 1863. There are brick streets and alleys on most blocks. Lawrence is a town with much to offer. Live music venues abound downtown, and restaurants range from casual to fine dining. A few blocks south is the Spencer Art Museum, and the KU Natural History Museum. There are trails along the river for strolling, running or biking. The Burroughs trail runs through East Lawrence, and Baker Wetlands on the south edge of town is a peaceful spot for nature lovers. Things are especially lively in East Lawrence and downtown on Final Fridays when dozens of Lawrence galleries and businesses — from coffee shops to restaurants to salons and even dentist offices open their doors to display the work of local artists. Getting AroundThere is a bus system which runs close to our house. For more information visit the Lawrence Transit website. Other Things to NoteThere is off street parking in the alley, with motion sensor lights to illuminate your way to the door.

The SpaceAmazing location about 12 miles outside of Lawrence. Fairly close to Clinton Lake. The drive is worth it for the quiet farm location. The house was custom built overlooking the Wakarusa valley. Surrounded by corn & hayfields & friendly neighbors. The roads are all great for walking & many are paved. The majority of the drive is fully paved. The house has a separate garage (1 car space may be reserved if you need a covered spot). Lots of parking in the driveway too. There are 3 official bedrooms. The master bedroom has a full bath with a double vanity, jacuzzi tub & a shower & a king size bed. The upstairs bedrooms share a full bath & 1 has a queen bed, the other a full size. Several patio tables for lounging outside makes it great for hosting your local guests & visitors. There is a smoker style charcoal grill ready (charcoal is provided, but we require you refresh what you use!). The coyotes can often be heard calling throughout the valley at night. Great spot for stargazing & watching sunsets. We are dog friendly with house trained dogs. Guest AccessPlease limit guests to no more than 15 on the property at once. No garage access available at this time. Full kitchen is available. Washer/dryer also available (please replace laundry detergent or leave a few dollars if you wash your own clothes) The basement is accessible, but probably unnecessary, as it's unfinished. Check in is somewhat flexible- it is available in the afternoon. Check out is at noon. Your security deposit may be forfeited if any of the rules are broken or if you stay past the checkout time. Interaction with Guestsowner lives in town, but is available for any specific needs. Happy to answer any questions via phone, text or email. If the weather is ok, we usually email out a map to the guests & tell them where the key is & let them find it. The NeighborhoodQuiet country area with a lot of farmland. The neighbors often have sheep that will bay. Coyotes often howl on the hills around the house. Great roads for casual walks. We're just a few miles from Clinton Lake, which has a dog park, hiking trails, a swimming beach & boat access. Getting AroundA car is a must for this rural location. The area is great for biking & jogging though! Other Things to NoteWhile there isnt any internet access at the house, we have had luck by tethering our iphones to a laptop to get wifi. we have a collection of cooking spices and essentials. For items other than spices and condiments, please replace what you use. We do provide plenty of pots/pans, dishes & other cooking utensils. We do ask that you clean up after yourself! We are dog friendly, but Please make sure they're house trained (and clean up after them if they have accidents). If they're prone to wander, keep them leashed. Do not let small dogs loose at night without leashes...coyotes & owls can be a problem. When leaving, please make sure your dogs are crated. If you cannot crate them, please make sure they're in the unfinished basement. Do not leave them unattended inside the house. Towels & linens are provided, so no need to bring your own. We also have a large selection of toiletries like shampoo & soap in the master vanity.

The SpaceA cozy and comfortable house, it's as if you're at your Grandma's. The house and furnishings have character, so don't expect things right off the show room floor. There's a bit of unevenness to the whole structure. It's old. It comes with a full kitchen, laundry, sleeping, internet, cable, parking, trees, deck and more. One block off of downtown entertainment. Very close to bus stops. Less than a mile from campus. I'm available if there is a problem or if you need general info about anything. The house sits in the East Lawrence Arts District and is very close to almost everything. The neighbors are quiet and I would expect guests to respect that. Out back there is a covered deck nicely landscaped and out front is a porch with a porch swing. Very cozy and functional place. Connecticut Street, at times, can be a little noisy but nothing overwhelming. No one has complained but one said that the street side bedroom was just a bit loud in the morning, but not bad. It didn't wake them. Rates are very affordable. It's cheaper than most hotels with considerably more amenities. Upstairs there are three beds, two full and one twin. Downstairs there is one full bed and three couches. 1200 square feet. Not huge but plenty of room. The stairs are old style meaning they have slightly more incline than modern stairs. Thank you for the consideration. Please be honest about the # of guests. Additional people put a strain on utilities, clean-up, laundry, wear & tear, basically everything. We BnB hosts don't make a killing and offer you a great alternative to hotels, so please be honest. Thank you. Guest AccessLaundry, internet, cable, hot water on demand (never runs out), whole house and yard and parking, the city is yours, although some say they didn't want to leave the house, they liked it so much. Interaction with GuestsI'm here if you need me, otherwise I won't bother you, unless there is some maintenance to do. The NeighborhoodVery close to eateries, coffee houses, bars, movie theatre. You can walk to anything. Pool hall, book store, bank, post office, library, etc. It's all a block away. Laid back neighbors. Getting AroundLarge parking area 2 spots wide. More parking on 8th or Connecticut. Bus stops all over the place. The 11 bus stop is a half block away and comes every thirty minutes and can take you to campus and beyond. The main bus depot is only 2-3 blocks away and can take you all over the city. Walk to everything. Other Things to NoteMake it what you want. Decorum is appreciated. This is an old house and, like ourselves, its bones have shifted slightly over the years. It has a good character and I am continually renovating it as time and money allow. Also, PLEASE don't flush anything except toilet paper.

The spacious bedroom has a queen bed and sleeper sofa and connects to a huge closet (a separate room, in fact, with a futon bed in it). The spacious living room has a breakfast nook, two comfy armchairs with ottoman, coffee table and a 32" flatscreen TV. The bathroom has a clawfoot-tub and a shower ring, while the kitchen has all the essentials--pots and pans, utensils, refrigerator, range, coffee maker, microwave, and a bagel-friendly toaster. While my personal touch can be found in the design and construction of these quarters, and in the little things (such as the Jack London portrait and the Lawrence aerial map); my lifestyle and my bric-a-brac are not underfoot nor in your face--this space is yours. Special Continental Breakfast Guest Access From the circular driveway you can step out of your car and be on your doorstep. This is a nice, calm neighborhood, and I hope that you will take advantage of the large yard with picnic tables (great for meals, reading and daydreaming), a swing, firepit, and the long, paved trail where Lawrencians love to jog, push strollers and walk their dogs. The garage is the only part of the lot that is not available. If you're here longer than three days you may use the washer and dryer. Aaron, the neighbor next door, is an organic farmer and can often be seen tending his multitude of gardens Interaction Please leave your phone number when you inquire, it's always best to chat a bit before we commit. I'm new at this, and I want to make it work. I am a knock or call away. House rules No parties unless you are here long term and we discuss it first. Please ask your guests to begin making their way home by 10:30 on weekdays and 11:30 on weekends. Please be considerate of others occupying the downstairs. Usually this is me, but when I have out-of-town business, I may make that space available to other guests like yourself. Don't worry--I or a friend (who also hosts) can be reached and respond to your needs. This is the Old East Lawrence neighborhood, great for walks, starry skies (especially from the yard), history, architecture, and local flavor---tradesmen, artists, kids playing, and laid-back porch parties. I don't worry about crime here, and neither should you. The neighbors are quiet and respectful; I try to be as well.
