The SpaceThe location is very quiet and the property in organically managed with no pesticides or herbicides used. Mattresses are organic cotton and organic latex. However, the roped beds are antique, slightly smaller than full double size, as they are for 18-19th century people. Guest AccessThere is a pond to fish in, a tennis court and lots of walking paths through the woods, a huge deck and excellent birdwatching. In winter, you can snowshoe or cross country ski. We are adjacent to the airline trail, which is excellent for skiing, as well as the Wolf Den State Park and the New England Forestry Foundation's Chase Kimball Memorial Forest Interaction with GuestsI live in the Big House in front, so am there for check in, and if they need anything, but otherwise leave them alone The NeighborhoodIt is paradise- far away from civilization, yet close enough to take day trips to Boston, Hartford, Worcester, Providence, Old Sturbridge Village, Mystic Seaport - all of Southern New England Getting AroundNo- you need a car Other Things to NoteThe beds and furniture are not really satisfactory for very large or seriously overweight people

The SpaceNortheastern Connecticut has a quiet heritage known as "The Last Green Valley", there are things to do, and history embedded in unlikely places. Getting here is by car, bus and train service sparse. This part of Connecticut is not overtly touristic. It is three hours to NYC, 2 to Boston, a half hour or one hour to ocean beaches, a quick hour to the Connecticut River Valley. There are many things to do, but you need to drive a bit to get to them. Location: The house is situated on hundreds of acres of protected farmland that has been farmed by my family for 300 years. Right now the farm grows crops: wheat, hay and corn. We no longer have farm animals. The backyard view is of a small pond, farm fields and sky. Deer, wild turkey, just some of the local life in the fields. If you are very lucky you may catch glimpse of the otter family who live here. Owls at night. Coyote. There is a pool in the backyard, which is open but not heated. Pool is closed, to be opened in April 2017. In the house, furnishing is minimal but comfortable, with cozy spaces to read and talk. It feels small and big at the same time. This property is close to one of the only wild trout streams in Connecticut. Ask me, I will tell you how to get there. Follow a pretty brook with a pretty trail to a swimming hole that you will have to yourself. Explore the old graveyards down the road. This house sleeps 6 comfortably, willingness to be creative could fit 8, although close for that. Fantastic place for: friends getting together for an individualized yoga retreat, family reunions, couples who want a whole house, family gatherings. Great for those who enjoy off a stay the beaten path, or want a country setting without being totally backwoods. It is a simple regular house. Guest AccessWhole house. No one else has access to the house while you are there. Towels, soap and shampoo all provided. Towels are in the bathroom cupboards. Everything in the fridge and cupboards is yours to enjoy. All kinds of dry good and fresh foods stocked for your stay. Be sure to poke around and find what you need in all the kitchen cupboards. There is a grill on the back porch by the pool, as well as fire brazier for s'mores. You are welcome to use the grill. The pool is currently closed, to be opened in April. Plenty of backyard space for sports, bring your badminton, croquet sets for backyard fun. There is is Charter Spectrum TV and Wifi, password provided in house manual. If you are a runner, fabulous local runs if you head out of the driveway and to the right, and then at the end of the road, a left. The lone tree you see in the field in the west, is depicted on the back of the Connecticut Quarter, as an emblem of the Charter Oak of the Constitution. The artist who designed the Quarter, used this tree as a model. Interaction with GuestsI am next door. Text, call, 24 hours a day for assistance. It's nice to meet you briefly the day after you arrive to make sure you are all set. The NeighborhoodPretty walks, bike rides, hundreds of acres of protected farmland and a natural wild trout stream a short walk away. Catch and release only! Bring your bikes! Gorgeous hilly bike rides. Head into town, Willimantic, for local restaurants. Top picks for breakfast: Nita's, off of Main Street in Willimantic, That Breakfast Place, or Thread City Diner is a fav with locals. Try the excellent small plates fare at Cafemantic on Main Street for dinner. If you love fine food, you really must try this place, the owner and chef are so talented. Beer lovers will find the homemade brews at the Willimantic Brewing Company exceptional. Great hand cut French Fries at Aero Diner, in a fantastic dining car. Head to Mansfield Drive In for a Drive in movie. Visit The Harp on Church, for a Willi style Irish Pub. Great food and local atmosphere. A 20 minute drive will take you to Storrs Center, with new shops and eateries to enjoy. People booking longer stays may be interested in chartered sea fishing trips off of Point Judith. Arranged upon request. Getting AroundCar necessary. Other Things to NoteThe house has no air conditioning.

The SpaceYou have the house to yourself except, on a basement level, there is an office with one person in it. You won't need to go there, and she won't need to go into your space. Guest AccessGuests can drive right up to the door, but there are about 10 stairs up to the door. Interaction with GuestsWe live on the premises, about 200 ft. away, so most of the time someone is around and more than willing to help with whatever. Be advised that guests must be quiet and peaceful. (Kid noise is OK, but no drunken shouting, no loud music, stuff like that.) The NeighborhoodWe live in a rural area surrounded by woods and water. It's quiet and safe. The amenities of Norwich, Conn. are 15-20 minutes away. Other Things to NoteIf you would like a cleaning service once in a while, we can have someone come in for $50. Rental price includes clean sheets once a week. The building has no a/c, but thanks to shade and water around, it never gets really hot. We can put an a/c unit in the bedroom, but it will cool only that room. There are cats on the premises but not in the building. We welcome pets and children. If you'd like to make a small campfire to cook marshmallows or wienies, you can do that.
