The SpaceConnecticut is a fantastic place for a Thanksgiving or Christmas gathering.
Northeastern Connecticut has a quiet heritage known as "The Last Green Valley", there are things to do, and history embedded in unlikely places. Getting here is by car, bus and train service sparse. This part of Connecticut is not overtly touristic. It is three hours to NYC, 2 to Boston, a half hour or one hour to ocean beaches, a quick hour to the Connecticut River Valley. There are many things to do, but you need to drive a bit to get to them.
Location: The house is situated on hundreds of acres of protected farmland that has been farmed by my family for 300 years. Right now the farm grows crops: wheat, hay and corn. We no longer have farm animals.
The backyard view is of a small pond, farm fields and sky. Deer, wild turkey, just some of the local life in the fields. If you are very lucky you may catch glimpse of the otter family who live here. Owls at night. Coyote.
There is a pool in the backyard, which is open but not heated. Pool will be closed end of September.
In the house, furnishing is minimal but comfortable, with cozy spaces to read and talk. It feels small and big at the same time.
This property is close to one of the only wild trout streams in Connecticut. Ask me, I will tell you how to get there. Follow a pretty brook with a pretty trail to a swimming hole that you will have to yourself. Explore the old graveyards down the road.
This house sleeps 6 comfortably, willingness to be creative could fit 8, although close for that.
Fantastic place for: friends getting together for an individualized yoga retreat, family reunions, couples who want a whole house, family gatherings. Great for those who enjoy off a stay the beaten path, or want a country setting without being totally backwoods.
It is a simple regular house. Guest AccessWhole house. No one else has access to the house while you are there.
Towels, soap and shampoo all provided. Towels are in the bathroom cupboards.
Everything in the fridge and cupboards is yours to enjoy. All kinds of dry good and fresh foods stocked for your stay. Be sure to poke around and find what you need in all the kitchen cupboards.
There is a grill on the back porch by the pool, as well as fire brazier for s'mores. You are welcome to use the grill.
The pool is currently open, closing end of September. The pool is maintained by a professional who tests the water for proper levels between guest check ins. I provide a daily check in the morning.
Plenty of backyard space for sports, bring your badminton, croquet sets for backyard fun.
There is Frontier Wifi, with Direct TV with HBO and Showtime. Sometimes you have to unplug the modem and then plug it back in to reset the signal. This happens a lot during 'weather'.
If you are a runner, fabulous local runs if you head out of the driveway and to the right, and then at the end of the road, a left.
The lone tree you see in the field in the west, is depicted on the back of the Connecticut Quarter, as an emblem of the Charter Oak of the Constitution. The artist who designed the Quarter, used this tree as a model. Interaction with GuestsI am next door. Text, call, 24 hours a day for assistance. It's nice to meet you briefly the day after you arrive to make sure you are all set. The NeighborhoodPretty walks, bike rides, hundreds of acres of protected farmland and a natural wild trout stream a short walk away. Catch and release only! Bring your bikes! Gorgeous hilly bike rides.
