The SpaceA few blocks away is the booming Jefferson Street district, quickly becoming a hot spot in Lexington for quaint restaurants, new craft breweries, good music, and art. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE LISTING before booking since the last guest's review was unfavorable. Please have the word 'wildcat" in your inquiry or reservation to ensure that you've fully read the description. This "Shotgun Cottage" was built in 1899 and completely renovated in 2008 to have some of the most energy efficient appliances and lighting. It has an on demand water heater (never out of hot water), washer/dryer, with simple furnishings. I am renting the entire upstairs area when I travel. If you need more accommodation, check out my other listing for the front room and rear addition. This is a basic, modest house. You have a queen Tempurpedic bed, plus two twin beds. The kitchen will be shared by all guests as well as the lower bathroom. You are on a busy route, so there's a fan near your bed if you're not used to hearing the sounds of the street. A word of caution: This ceiling in this room has a steep (45 degree) slope to it, so tall people may find it difficult not to bump their head on the shorter ends or dormer area. The entire upstairs is yours. You do have a toilet with bidet seat, sink, and claw foot tub, which is in a very open plan, essentially it's one large room with no doors. The lower part of the stairway has NO DOOR, but a privacy curtain. Downstairs, the house also has a common area with another 42" TV with DVD player, a kitchen, a large travertine and glass shower, Wifi, and a bricked back yard. Help yourself to coffee in the kitchen. You will be possibly sharing this house with me or other airbnb guest renting the front room and the house manager, Christine, in the rear addition. You will have your own room with toilet (with new bidet seat), sink, and claw foot tub. There is a shared bathroom on the first floor with a shower as well as another more private toilet. The parking is free city parking, typically there's a spot in front of the house, if the rare instance occurs (UK basketball game), a neighboring business lets cars park in their back lot. I have several bicycles, helmets, and locks available for a small rental fee. No pets are currently in the house and no pets allowed, sorry. I do travel often, but will often be available by phone and e-mail and the house manager, Christine, rents the back room on the first floor. Also available are local maps, information on local points of interest and other goodies. Enjoy your stay! Arriving early or late? I have an electronic deadbolt with a code so you can come and go as you please. A few days before you arrive, I'll send you the code to access the house. I can interact as little or as much as you please depending on your requirements. If I'm traveling, which is very often, I'm typically available through e-mail or phone. The house is on Main Street, the major artery of the city in Western Historic Suburbs, the oldest neighborhood in Lexington. The neighborhood is a mix of activity with many houses renovating to their historic standards, new restaurants seem to establish on Jefferson Street (a few city blocks away). Since the house is on a main street, you get to see activities of small city life; one of my favorite activities is to sit on the front porch with my favorite beverage and watch life happen at the end of the day! The airport is less than 6 miles (11 minutes) away and about a $25 base taxi ride. Uber is another option and a standard rate would be about $12. The house is located less than a mile from the Lextran hub and the bus lines run near the house. Airport rides and personal tours by request if I'm in town. I love to play tour guide! Please sign the guest book before leaving. I strive for a five star stay, so please let myself or my house manager know if you have any questions. Guest AccessI will give you a code to enter the SIDE door whe you make your reservation so you can come and go as you please with no worry of keys. Interaction with GuestsI'm often traveling, so manager Christine will be answering your questions and address your need your needs while at the house. She or I can interact as much or as little as you wish and will respect your privacy. The NeighborhoodThis little, old house is right on Main Street in a medium size town. It's located in Western Historic Suburbs, which is the oldest neighborhood in Lexington. It's mixed use, so you'll see city life as well as neighboring million dollar homes in the neighborhood. Getting AroundPublic transit has a way to go in Lexington. The house is about a 10 minute drive/taxi from the LEX Airport. Other Things to NoteThis is a VERY OPEN floor plan. There is no door from the upstairs to the downstairs room and some feel uncomfortable with the absence of a door. I do have another private room with a door and lock on it in another listing for this same house.

The SpaceOur listing is the second floor of a c.1948 home that was renovated with vacation rentals in mind. It is easy to clean, comfortable, and close to Lexington's entertainment centers. The garden is incredible. Not being talented gardeners ourselves, we feel incredibly lucky that a landscape architect rented one of the apartments for several years before we bought the house in December, 2013. He spent several thousand hours and hundreds of dollars creating an English garden of winding paths and full, lush beds. It is peaceful and a piece of paradise right downtown. All we had to do was dig it since he had moved out and it was neglected for several years. The furnishings have been culled from area estate sales over the past year. The resulting look is a contemporary renovation, with vintage furnishings. My husband and I have spent a few nights there when our own home is rented, and have absolutely loved it. I am confident our guests will too! Here are initial comments from our very first guest: "Teri, Ok the house is so sweet charming, immaculate and comfy - my bed was really comfy. The hard wood floors, the trim around all the doors and windows and subway tiles in the shower-very cool. Sent from my iPhone" Guest AccessThe access is from a set of steps on the back of the home. We have installed security lights that, along with those owned by our neighbor, keep visitors in light the entire path behind the house. Our driveway leads to the steps. Interaction with GuestsInteraction will vary. We live only a few houses down from the home and love to meet our guests. We own other historic properties in Lexington and occasionally a guest will request a tour, which we are always happy to oblige. Other guests prefer more privacy and that is fine too. The NeighborhoodThe property is conveniently located within walking distance of all of Lexington's downtown attractions including Rupp Arena, restaurants, shopping and the Explorium of Lexington (Lexington Children's Museum). An easy two block walk gets you to Jefferson Street, a renovated entertainment district of bars, breweries and restaurants. Or, visitors could make a quick 7-10 minute drive to the up-and-coming Distillery District, Lexington's newest entertainment district. Getting AroundNot really, but it's not necessary in order to get around downtown. There is free parking on the street in front of the property. The property is an easy 20 minutes from Bluegrass Field.

The SpaceOur home is literally one of a kind. Designed by leading architect H.L. Rowe, three years were spent planning and building it with every modern convenience of the day, including lighting that had a unique gas and electric configuration to keep reliable gas, but to use the latest technology, which was electricity. No expense was spared and a total of $ 18,000 was spent. Subsequent owners were not as flush as Mr. McCain, who built it for his family. This turned out to be a blessing; over the next 8 decades very few changes were made. We found original woodwork that was never painted, ceilings that were never dropped, pocket doors that, while they were locked behind walls by shag carpeting, were never removed, and chandeliers hung exactly where they were placed in 1897. We bought the house in 1999 and replaced all of the electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roof and brick mortar while preserving every possible original detail. The result is a like-new house with historical elegance. Guest AccessGuests will have four bedrooms, two offices, kitchen, living room, parlor, four bathrooms and plenty of closet space. Interaction with GuestsInteraction will vary. Sometimes we will be staying nearby, other times we may choose to take a day trip to another city. The NeighborhoodNorthside is the largest of Lexington's original neighborhoods. It certainly went though some tough times when living downtown was for those who could not afford to relocate to the suburbs. All of that changed when it gained protection under Historical Zoning about 25 years ago, and when urban living became the green-and cool- way to go. The neighborhood still had a way to go when we first moved in, but over the past 14 years lots of new restaurants, bars and shops have opened within walking distance. Houses don't stay on the market very long and there are very few houses left that have not been renovated. Getting AroundThird Street has wonderful access to Interstate 75, Interstate 64, and all of Lexington's main streets. The buses run just a short walk from our home.
