The SpaceThis is a cozy private room in a nice 5 bedroom house on a quiet dead end street. The room is near the shared bathroom on the second floor. The house is on the East side of Lexington, near the Arlington border, a few blocks from shops and restaurants. We have a nice open first floor with common areas and a yard with a deck, and organic vegetable garden when in season.
Suburban location is best with a car, or combo car/subway. PLEASE see details on bus/subway and public transport options and hours.
There is another larger room available in the same house, or you can book both rooms if available. (See "Big Comfy Room in welcoming home") for details. Guest AccessSpacious and comfortable common areas. We like having guests, but we also understand the need for a quiet space of your own. Limited kitchen use OK (refrigerating and heating up leftovers, tea/coffee, etc) but we prefer no cooking of meals, as we are a busy family with unpredictable schedules. Interaction with GuestsMy husband and I, and our teenage son live here, with our very sweet and mild mannered dog. We come and go, but we will definitely be available to greet you and make sure you are comfortable! The NeighborhoodQuiet and friendly neighborhood! Walking distance to a nice French cafe, Trader Joes and Starbucks, a great liquor store with artisan beers, and a 15 min walk to Arlington Heights. Close to Arlington Reservoir and nice park where sunset walks are great. We are one block from a bike path that goes all the way from Cambridge and through Lexington north several more miles.
Suburban location without terribly convenient public transport nearby. Getting around Cambridge/Boston area is easiest with a car, or combo car/subway, parking is available for one car per room. See GETTING AROUND for public transportation details. Getting AroundBEST WITH CAR. Regarding transit in Greater Boston: We are in a suburban location that doesn't have its own train station. Driving into Cambridge from here takes 20-25 minutes, and to Boston takes about 25-35 minutes (depending on where you're going and the time of day).
The best/easiest way to get to Cambridge and/or Boston, in my experience, is to drive a car 7-10 minutes to the closest subway stop, which is the Alewife Station - the last station stop of the red line of the MBTA. Parking at the station is $7/day. The "T" can take you to many locations in greater Boston, conveniently. It costs about $2/ride (including the ability to transfer lines). The "T" stops running at midnight.
Without a car, it is possible to get around but NOT terribly convenient. There is a bus that stops about 2 blocks from us, that can take you to/from the Alewife MBTA Station in 20-30 minutes. HOWEVER please note that the bus only runs once per hour during off-peak times, or 4 times an hour during rush hour. Also, it STOPS running in the early evening (8pm weekdays and 7pm on Saturdays) and DOES NOT RUN on Sundays or holidays. You can look up the schedules on the (URL HIDDEN) website: look for the 62 and the 76 lines for the bus, and the red line for the subway. As an alternative, Uber to the Alewife station costs about $12-15 each way, taxi maybe $20-25.
For an alternate way to get to Cambridge: we are 15 minute walk from the Arlington Busway, where you can get a bus taking you to Harvard Square in 25-30 minutes.
We are also very close to Enterprise Car Rental, and can provide one parking space per room.
Local Lexington transport: We are two blocks from a bus that takes you to historic Lexington Center in 10 minutes. Other Things to NoteNo smokers please.
We have a friendly and mellow elderly dog.
The bathroom is shared with up to 4 other guests.
Location is best with a car! Please see "GETTING AROUND" if you will not have a car, for details on public transportation.
