The SpaceGlorious seclusion, peace, quiet and privacy. Even for the Catskills, this home is a rare find. This little red cabin sits on 12 acres at the end of a dead end PRIVATE road. This is a true hideaway, and your nearest neighbor is nearly a half mile away, leaving you with nothing but the sounds of nature, surrounded by forest. Wake up in the morning and enjoy your coffee on the deck that looks out onto a 2-acre back yard. Then take a hike into the pristine woods beyond. Wildlife abounds. Deer, turkey, coyotes, bear, I’ve even seen a bobcat. Pick the chanterelle and trumpet mushrooms that grow wild just steps into the forest. If you really appreciate and want to be in the woods, this place is ideal.
Inside, the home is appointed with everything you need to be cozy and comfortable. Wide-plank pine floors cover the open layout living room/kitchen area, and there are 2 bedrooms that can accommodate 4 people. There is propane heat, but feel free to fire up the wood-burning stove for added cozy factor. OR… go outside and start a campfire at the fire rock in the middle of the yard.
When you’re ready to explore, just a short drive can get you to most of the highlights in the area. Trendy Phoenicia is 18 minutes away. Arguably the best restaurant in the Catskills, the Peekamoose, 20 minutes away. Zip lining at either Hunter or Windham, 15 minutes away. And there are hiking trails everywhere. The Schoharie Creek and world-class trout fishing are right at the base of the mountain, and if you’d like to try flyfishing, I can recommend a guide that is fantastic.
My two dachshunds love it up there, and I’d love for your dog to enjoy it too. Please just inform me upon making the reservation.
I will not be in the area during your stay, but can make arrangements to have someone come by if any needs arise.
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, I require a 3 night minimum stay.
Mountain Jam Weekend, I require a 6 night minimum stay.
Columbus Day Weekend, I require a 4 night minimum stay.
Some of my favs:
Pakatakan Farmers Market: One of the best markets in the area. Meats, vegetables, and pulled pork sandwiches! It’s a 40 minute drive, but it’s a beautiful ride. Great antiquing along the way. (URL HIDDEN)
Hull-O Farms: A crotchety old man named Frank runs this farm in Cairo.
Carnivores, I beg you, go to this man, and buy his meats. His grass-fed beef is UNBELIEVABLE, as good as you’ll find in any steakhouse. He also sells lamb, veal, venison, pork and pheasant. (URL HIDDEN)
Phoenicia Diner: Don’t let the ‘diner’ in the name fool you. This place has a contemporary menu that’s everything but your ordinary bacon and eggs. This is where all the hipsters have breakfast and lunch. (URL HIDDEN)
If it’s hot out, there are several swimming holes along the Schoharie Creek. My favorite is the one just before getting into the town of Prattsville. There’s a little dam and flat rocks that make a perfect little hangout where you’ll mingle with the locals. If you want to drive to Phoenicia, there’s also tubing down the Esopus Creek.
For basics, the closest supermarket is The Great American, about 10 minutes away in Prattsville. (There’s a liquor store there too.)
