The SpaceLocated in the beautiful foothills in between Auburn and Lincoln, our 90 acre farm is home to a herd of Scottish Highland, Dutch Belted and other heritage breed dairy cattle, emus, pigs, goats, (many) chickens, ducks, turkeys, guinea fowl, alpacas, donkeys and a horse-- as well as the more conventional dogs and cats. We are a working dairy farm and creamery producing cheese. We also have a large population of free range laying chickens for eggs. Another activity of ours is to raise and train milk cows and breeding stock so there are usually calves around to enjoy. We are committed to high standards of animal happiness and general welfare and our farm is certified by Animal Welfare Approved.
The grounds include various gardens, trails to hike, a creek for swimming and a pond for fishing with bass and catfish. A hedge surrounds a secret zen garden with seasonal grapes and roses. Our antique firetruck is a popular play site for children -- and many adults too. Other favorite kid entertainments include the king-sized sandbox and the play structure with slide, rock wall, and swings.
Our place is perfect for kids or anyone who loves the outdoors and animals and would enjoy a taste of farm life or just relax in the quiet. Chores are strictly optional, but if you are game there are lots of animals to groom and feed. Bottle feeding the calves is always a favorite activity for children.
The air-conditioned house has four bedrooms, a sitting area and full living room- dining room combination as well as a deck with view of meadows and ponds.
The fully equipped kitchen is complete with pots, pans, tableware, coffee maker (French press) with grinder and Espresso maker. Oils and standard condiments are stocked. We provide a selection of snacks, farm fresh eggs, and other farm goods when available for your enjoyment during your stay. Please let us know if you have any special requests.
A washer-dryer in the house is also available for your use.
There is a small, heated, indoor pool (located in a separate building) that may be used by our in the afternoons. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole farm with minimal restrictions designed to keep our animals and visitors as safe as possible.
There are also nice trails to walk in the surrounding community.
There is a small, heated, indoor pool (located in a separate building from the rental house) that is available for guest use in the afternoons.
As a working farm, we do have rules to maintain sanitation around our food production areas and biosecurity requirements around chicken areas and the dairy. Interaction with GuestsAs much or little as desired. We are happy to give tours and involve guests in farm activities like grooming and feeding animals. Just ask. Of course if you are looking for solitude we can provide that too (assuming a moo or crowing rooster doesn't bother you). The NeighborhoodOur property feels extremely remote and secluded but in reality is a short drive from several towns. Our place is located about 55 min from Sacramento and the airport, 30 minutes from Auburn and Roseville and 20 minutes from Lincoln. Lincoln and Roseville have plenty of shopping and dining options. The Placer County Wine Trail is about 10 minutes away. The nearest Whole Foods is in Roseville and Auburn and Lincoln have a selection of specialty and chain groceries. Newcastle Produce (in Newcastle) is highly recommended as are the Foothills Farmers markets in Old Town Auburn on Saturdays and at the Roseville Galleria on Tuesdays.
Placer County offers a variety of recreation including hiking, swimming, rafting and historical sites. Grass Valley and Nevada City are about 45-50min drive. Other Things to NoteWe have 7 working dogs on the farm, four of which are quite large. Their main role is to guard against predators at night but they are often around during the day as well. They are very used to visitors -- both human and canine -- and are quite friendly.
