Our very comfortable and beautifully appointed Luxury Barn Apartment is surrounded by gardens and breath-taking views on 80 very private acres. Nestled high in the Green Mountains, Lincoln is a peaceful world apart, yet Middlebury College and all its cultural resources is 18 miles away. The charming Village of Bristol is 5 minutes, 20 to the wonderful little City of Vergennes, 30 minutes to Burlington International Airport. Montreal is 2 1/2 hours to the north, Boston 3 hrs. south.
We are very close to Lake Champlain for summer water play, as well as world-class skiing at Sugarbush, Madriver, and The Middlebury College Snow Bowl and Reichert Ski Touring Center. Stowe is an hour to the north. Hiking, snowshoeing, secret swimming holes, biking, and cross-country opportunities abound just outside the front door. Numerous great restaurants, artisan cheese and bread makers and several flourishing Farmer's Markets are open year-round.
It's a perfect spot for city-dwellers to kick back for a weekend in the country, or for putting up family members during Reunions, Parent's Weekends, Homecoming and Graduations at Middlebury College. Enormous,Delicious, locally sourced breakfasts delivered to the barn are $20.00 per adult - booked with advanced notice, but there are also plenty of places to get well fed and caffinated nearby. Bristol is home to the incomparable Almost Home Market, the Bristol Bakery, and Snaps Diner. Dinners out are also a treat: visit with Chef Doug Mack and his wife Linda Harmon of Mary's at Baldwin Creek for fabulous locally grown everything (cooking classes!), or go to the Bobcat for a local Brew and Bistro Fare. Not to be missed either, are the sublimely French Tourterelle (Best Boulliabaise Ever), in New Haven, and the Vergennes Laundry for superb coffee and pastries, fresh oysters and sandwiches. If you have not been to visit Nancy at Sparkling (for afternoon champagne), at the bottom of College Street in Middlebury, don't miss it. Did I forget to mention Daily Chocolate in Vergennes, lu.lu's small-batch ice cream in Bristol, and all the local brews? So much more great food and drink, so little time!!!
We can acommodate two adults in a queen bed, and have a smaller, "hired man's bed" for children. Fresh linens,fresh coffee, teas and snacks are provided by us. Canine friends are welcome downstairs in the barn...bring kennel or bed - we will supply the treats! Guest AccessIt is easy to get anywhere from here - For Summer fun bring your bikes, kayacks, and swimsuits. Winter toys: we have sleds, snowshoes, gourmet treats for your dog! Bring skates, skis, and boards...Hiking and cross country trails right out the front door! We supply you with a fridge and freezer in our house garage as well as coolers and a microwave for the barn. The NeighborhoodPrivate, peaceful, beautiful views, convenient to everything you might want to do in our part of the state. Addison County is ideally located between Lake Champlain to the west, the Presidential Range to the east. Quaint Vergennes is 15 minutes. To the north and south, two College towns: Burlington and Middlebury. Getting AroundFour-wheel or All-wheel drive is necessary in the winter. Snow tires helpful as well. If you are really lean and mean, you can bike the two "gaps" in the summer! Other Things to NoteThere is no kitchen, but there is a microwave, and you can use one of our coolers for food or bring your own. There is a refrigerator and freezer for your use in the house garage. You are also welcome to use the barbeque and private patio in season. And Do Not Use your GPS when close to us, or you will end up off a dead-end road up the mountain! Please call us if you want directional advice from where you are. The Lincoln Gap Road (from the east on Route 100) is closed for the Winter, so you will take Route 125 (Middlebury Gap) or Rte. 17 (Appalachian Gap) to get to us from the east.
From Bristol, VT: Go through Bristol on Rte.116/17 north. Immediately after two black bridges, go right onto the Lincoln Gap Road. (Coming south on 116 from Burlington, turn left before the first Black bridge in Bristol). Follow the road and the river 4 miles to Village of Lincoln and turn left (north) up Quaker Street between the Church and the General Store. Take the first right up Elder Hill, pass Elderberry Horse Farm where the road flattens out and take the FIRST AND ONLY right onto Orchard Rd. North. Then take your FIRST AND ONLY LEFT at mailbox #379, through the stone walls, to our place. Park in front of the left barn garage door, walk round to the front of the barn, door to apartment is inside on the left. Please leave shoes, boots, equipment, and dogs downstairs!
