Every day in Aotearoa/New Zealand nature puts on a show and you are invited to participate in a way that even when the doors are shut you are not shut out. Your PurePod is total surround glass – that's right – roof and floor too! At night you sleep with the Southern Cross and millions of other stars, by day you are surrounded by dramatic natural landscapes with you own slice of pure New Zealand native bush literally at the back door. Relax, let nature refuel your soul. PurePods are designed to ensure that you experience nature's show vividly, utilising all of your senses whilst remaining sheltered in luxury. The effect is incredible. The stress of life disappears, the wonder at nature’s power and subtlety reconnects us with ourselves – and our partners. The privacy, the isolation of a tiny glass hut completely surrounded by nature – the sky, the hills, the sea, the birds, the bush – takes you to another world. What is the experience like? On a hot day you can pull back the sliding doors on all three glassed sides, turn up the shade on the ceiling blinds and indulge the privacy. If its cold you are totally insulated, the bio-fuel fire is keeping you warm but you can see the rain or snow falling all around you, experience the sounds and marvel at nature. Venture into the regenerating bush if you wish or stay totally still, off the grid, catching up on your reading - or with your partner! The uniqueness of the PurePod experience is that you are safe, warm, dry yet totally involved in all of the nature around you. Watching the rain fall onto the roof or gazing in wonder at the Milky way, the experience is yours alone. Private and isolated, you reconnect with nature. Environmentally friendly To build the worlds most environmentally transparent building takes more than simply using glass for roofing, flooring and walls. It involves using sustainable energy wherever possible, minimising the use of non-renewable energy sources, using local water and returning the water to the local area just as clean as it came to us. Rainwater that falls on the roof is returned under the floor to water the local plants. Waste is cleaned as naturally as possible, organic cleaners are used exclusively. Conservation and reclamation of the natural environment is close to the heart of PurePods. The commercial returns from a PurePod enable landowners to expand their conservation activities through the extension of nature covenants and the reduction of stock grazing sensitive areas. We take care with our building practices to be as minimally invasive as we can while building safely and imaginatively. We’re passionate about sharing the best possible experience of Pure New Zealand possible and we’re passionate about keeping New Zealand Pure.

The SpaceBirdsong Lodge provides the perfect venue for an intimate stay away for two to six people, whether it is a holiday, hideaway honeymoon, wedding anniversary, or family shout. It is close to Christchurch (a picturesque 50 minute drive) and yet totally hidden away up a secluded valley on the outskirts of Little River. Arrive in winter to a roaring open fire and in summer to the sound of bird song - the little things that make your stay such a memorable occasion. Guest AccessBirdsong Lodge itself offers two bedrooms and is surrounded by trees. Close by this main villa is the tree house, or third bedroom, which offers space for two more people. Interaction with GuestsBe entertained by your host Tanya who will delight in welcoming you and offering suggestions of what to do in the area. If you require we can provide drinks, snacks, local cheeses, crackers, and a selection of sweet treats. For a more extensive list of supplies, simply ask when booking. The NeighborhoodThe Birdsong Lodge is about 5 km out of Little River. There are a few neighbours on the road, but it is set in a lovely forest and is generally a quiet place. Close to the house you can undertake a one hour walk through the forest, passing a variety of exotic trees on the way. Pushbikes can be hired from the garage in Little River to explore the area. There is a small collection of shops in the Little River township, including a general store, a diner, and an art gallery. Getting AroundA car is essential to come here; the rural location means public transport to Birdsong Lodge is not possible. Parking is provided on-site free of charge. Other Things to NoteThe Birdsong Lodge does not provide wifi or television. We want to create a haven for people who want to have a break from daily life trouble and internet. In emergency cases we offer to use the wifi or telephone in the (private) main house on the property. We are proud of the fact that we are off the grid and generating our own power using a hydro system in the stream close to the house.
