The SpaceYour private waterfront lakeside suite offers a holiday that combines the best of both worlds; the hospitality and charm of a bed and breakfast; the experience of cottage life; and the complete privacy of your own fully equipped apartment attached to our home. In the fall the lake quiets down... except for loons and geese preparing to go south. View the sunrise and sunsets from the dock or watch the leaves fall from your private deck. Some nights you can even hear wolves and coyotes in the distance. The 2 kilometer “cottage” road to our home boasts every shade of gold, orange, red, auburn, and taupe with its daily changing display of brilliantly colored leaves; a photographer’s paradise every step of your autumn walk... leaves crunching underfoot and the sweet smell of wood burning fires in surrounding cottages. Our attractive lakeside suite has a wonderful view of the lake from your private deck. There are many local trails and we have a beautiful 45 minute private cottage road walk called “the loop” through a “mini boreal forest” that passes creeks, beaver damns, a crane rookery, split rail fences, and is home to deer, bears, coyotes, wolves, rabbits, owls, turtles, frogs, a pair of bald eagles, and wildflowers! This road and the nearby scenic Tennyson Road (part of the “classic route” of the Rideau Lakes Bicycle Tour) are great for cycling.  We are pet friendly and have two medium sized Dalmatian mixed dogs in the yard, a cat, and a small house dog. The home is a split level divided into 2 apartments. You can enter your private apartment through a common main entrance at the driveway or from your private lakeside deck. As a guest you have complete access to the yard; docks; bonfire pit; BBQ; picnic table; lawn chairs; hammock; canoe; kayak; and forest trails. There is a fully equipped kitchen in the apartment with a full size fridge, a toaster, toaster oven, convection oven, 2 element hot plate, small George Foreman grill; crock pot; a regular coffee maker; a Kuerig coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes, and cutlery. Your small ocean theme bathroom has a shower and there is a fully functioning old fashioned claw foot bathtub in your bedroom for soaking before bed.  We provide complimentary coffee and tea with milk/cream and salt and pepper. We also provide fresh towels, bed linens, and toiletries. There is wifi access and use of a TV with a DVD player, a large movie selection but no satellite TV. The docks are still in and the canoes and kayak are ready to tour the shoreline. Enjoy a peaceful, blissful, day at the lake; a spectacular fall walk in the forest, or take a road trip and tour fall in Lanark County... I can provide you with information on short or long day trips down country roads including Autumn Artist Studio Tours, shopping, restaurants, farmers markets, antiques, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and church suppers.  We are also 15 minutes from the soon to be famous historical town of Perth. With its attractive stone architecture, parks and waterways Perth has just hosted filming of 2 CBC miniseries and has been voted the most beautiful town in Ontario many times. It is an eclectic, artistic tourist town with access to musical and theatrical venues, craft fairs, and art shows.  Guest AccessPrivate road... free parking. Interaction with GuestsGuests have the option of total privacy or as much interaction with owners as they would like. The NeighborhoodThis listing offers visitors the best of both worlds located 45 minutes from Ottawa, 15 minutes from Perth, and 20 minutes from either Carleton Place or Smiths Falls and can be a home base for endless “under an hour” day trips. We are located at the end of a picturesque private 1.5 kilometer cottage road that winds its way through a “mini boreal forest” and is home to deer, bears, coyotes, rabbits, hawks, and owls. On summer nights you can hear the majestic call of the loons from your bed and in the winter the howl of wolves in the distance. The property is situated on a point and provides a spectacular panoramic view of Mississippi Lake from your private suite. It is available year around with access to woodlands and lakefront for hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing, shoreline bonfires, and if conditions permit skating. It is also 45 minutes to the Rideau Canal in Ottawa; the world’s longest skating rink. I am a huge fan of the area having moved here from Ottawa over 20 years ago and can help guests with info on the area and recommendations. I also provide extensive brochures and maps on local attractions in your suite. Please see the “Other Things to Note” section of this listing where I provide up to date info on area events and activities. For more information on local shopping, entertainment, museums, hiking, self guided tours, art studios, restaurants, and special events check out Lanark County Tourism. Please email me if you have any questions about the suite or the area. Getting AroundThere is access to taxi's from this location and buses to major cities are available in Carleton Place or Perth. Via Rail to major cities is also available from Smiths Falls. Other Things to Note* Please note that there is a large screen TV but no satellite services. We have over 100 excellent movies for you to choose from. * We have internet access but please note that streaming is an additional charge to our internet services out here in the country so emails, website browsing, (website hidden), and the odd YouTube is no problem but we ask you to limit streaming movies if possible. * This is a quiet relaxing environment to make the best of that novel you have been wanting to read or heading into the forest on one of our trails for some one on one with nature. LOCAL EVENTS: This summer is the 200th anniversary of Perth and there are many 200th Anniversary Signature events planned. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) for more info. The SpaceThe cottage is located on Beveridges Bay, Lower Rideau Lake on Parks Canada's Rideau Canal - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - between Ottawa and Kingston. The Bay is a quiet area with Canal access to the Tay River leading to the quaint county town of Perth and access to the main channels of the Rideau Lakes and Canal system taking you to Portland, Smiths Falls, Rideau Ferry and Westport. The lake offers opportunities for fantastic sportfishing all summer as well as boating, water skiing, wake boarding, windsurfing, and of course swimming. Located close to a provincially significant wetland, kayaks and canoes can get you close to the many bird and wildlife areas. Close by, the village of Rideau Ferry can be accessed by water or road and offers groceries, marine supplies, gas, firewood, camp supplies, If you are looking for activities away from the cottage, within an hour's drive you can be in Ottawa where you can visit the Parliament Hill, the Changing of the Guard, and its many museums, historic sites and cultural locations; Kingston and its Old Fort Henry, Morrisburg with Upper Canada Village, Ivy Lea and the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence, and Limoges and Canada's Largest Waterplay Park: Calypso. The cottage has had a complete makeover since we purchased in 2014. Everything was completed in early May 2015. It now has a bright seaside colour scheme boasting an open concept kitchen, eating and living area is the central feature of the cottage along with a cozy propane fireplace to take the chill off on cooler days. New landscaping has enhanced the yard, shoreline and driveway. The cottage sleeps 8 comfortably. A 3-piece bathroom offers a hot shower and flush toilet. You will need to provide your own water jugs (small green ones from Canadian Tire will work). There is parking for up to 4 vehicles on-site. A boat may be docked at the cottage dock and a boat launch is located at Beveridges Locks Station just up the road. Guest AccessLarge cottage decks, outdoor table and chairs, and BBQ Firepit for campfires Dock 2 kayaks 12' aluminum boat with oars and boater safety equipment Life jackets Linens for beds and towels Fishing rods and small tackle, axe for firewood Interaction with GuestsWe will be available by telephone if you need anything and may drop by during your stay to see how things are going. Otherwise you are on your own unless you run into us at check in or check out or need to have us come to the cottage for any reason. The NeighborhoodThe Beveridges Bay neighbourhood has both cottages and full-time residents as well as full complement of bunnies (aka rabbits). It is a quiet area and the cottage is the 3rd last lot before the cul-de-sac, so there is very little vehicle traffic passing by. The Rideau Lakes are part of the Rideau Canal system constructed in the 1820's by Lt. Col. John By. The lakes were formed by damming of the river to maintain water levels for navigation. Beveridges Bay was formed from this damming. Protection of the lake environment is very important to the overall well being of the lake. Therefore you will find that the lake shoreline and bottom remains natural to preserve the habitat for fishes, amphibians, snails, clams, mammals and lake flora. Swimming is good in this natural environment. The bottom is firm and not mucky. The water at the end of our dock ranges during the season from 4 feet to 3 feet deep and the Bay generally is 5 to 7 feet deep. If deep water swimming is what you desire you then you may wish to visit the beach at Rideau Ferry or Portland, take a boat to the deeper areas of the lake, or jump off the docks at the public wharf in Rideau Ferry. Getting AroundThere is easy highway access to Beveridges Locks from the major cities of Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto and Montreal through Perth, Smiths Falls or Lombardy. Major airports are located in Ottawa and Montreal. A small airport is located near Smiths Falls for small planes. The lake is large enough for float planes. Smiths Falls has a Via Train Station stop. Other Things to NoteRentals are either daily, weekly or monthly. Minimum 3 day rental. Maximum number of guests - 8.

Upstairs features 3 bedrooms and new custom bathroom. There are new mattresses and linens in all of the bedrooms. New front-loading washer and dryer are also located upstairs. Guests may also use the grass 'beach' for swimming, launching a canoe, fishing for Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike & Walleye, or watching the resident Loons and Otters. The fire circle located under the cherry tree between the house and river is a wonderful place to end the day with cocktails or s'mores!
