The SpaceEnter the home of artists John and Mary, a historic brownstone in a quiet artist neighborhood, via our tree lined landmarked block, right into the garden through a dedicated entrance into your private en suite ground floor room. Our two cats Sprocket and Jasmina may greet you while perched on their cat ladder that takes them from the second floor to the garden. We are one block from the Court Square Subway station for the G, E (Airport Airtrain), M and 7 trains and five blocks from Queens/Queensboro Plaza with the R, Q, M and N trains. We are only one stop (3 minutes) or a couple of stops from Manhattan or Brooklyn (depending on train line). We are 2 miles/3.2 kilometers to Manhattan, 2.5 mile/4 kilometer walk or bike to Central Park for a picnic! Those who come to the city for concerts/auditions, or who just love music, a Steinway baby grand piano (M) is available in your suite for practice, for a small additional charge, as well as video and audio recording equipment. Mary is a vocal coach/singer with students that perform at the Metropolitan Opera. If you are here for that big audition or just a night on the town, there are also hip, but reasonable hair stylists and nail salons close by to make sure you look your best! A block away there are tennis/handball courts, soccer field and a small park with a playground. Four blocks away, is our free, all volunteer, community kayaking Boathouse (John is the Chairperson), it's a great way to explore the warm summertime waters of our NYC archipelago! Within a block or more walking distance are many excellent restaurants, bars, liquor, grocery stores, laundry, pharmacy, post office, etc. There is a beautiful new waterfront esplanade and State Park that runs from our Boathouse almost to Brooklyn to explore and relax with amazing views of the NYC skyline. Our block has been listed as one of the best blocks in NYC by “Time Out Magazine”. There are scores of artists studios, dance and theater spaces, galleries (including the world class MOMA PS1 Museum around the corner, where they have wild outdoor summer dance parties on Saturday’s) to explore nearby. Many film and TV shows use our Landmark block and surrounding location. Currently you may see actors from The Good Wife, White Collar, Gossip Girl, The Blacklist, The Black Box,Person of Interest, Blue Blood and CSI:NY for example. You’ll have an Internet ready large screen TV that swings out for teleconferencing, remote music coaching or your favorite shows/movies. A 24hr Greek/American diner on the corner is open for late night noshes. We're bike activists/commuters and NYC is rapidly becoming European in bike acceptance, we encourage guests to bike the city when possible. But there are parking garages and on street parking options as needed. The SpaceGeneral info and location: This cozy and bright room is located in Long Island City - Queens, an area across the river from midtown Manhattan. We are close to the Queens MOMA PS1 museum, which also hosts outdoor dance parties on Saturdays in the summer. We are five minutes from a Jackson Ave, which has a bunch of restaurants for you to enjoy. There are also many places right around the house, if you just need to pop out for a quick meal. There is a 24-hour diner across the street where the food is decent, and uniquely New York! The room: The room is an annex to our living room. It is furnished with a "Murphy" bed, which folds into an armoire, putting it away during the daytime of you so choose. There are two windows that face the street, so you will hear some noise from the subway station, which is nearby (but that also means your travel time to the city will be short!). There is an air conditioning unit available for the summer months. Looking forward to having you stay with us! Guest AccessThe house: This is an historic townhouse from 1886 on a landmark block. You will share a big kitchen and the living room with us ( a couple in our 30s), our son (who was born in July 2016), and up to 2 other guests. You have your own bathroom that is located off the kitchen, which is dedicated to your use except for the occasional toilet use when the kitchen is being used. The shower and storage space in the bathroom are exclusively yours during your stay. Laundry, groceries and parking: Laundry is right in the basement of our house and the closest grocery store is about a 5 minute walk. For those of you with cars, you can usually find free, long-term parking with no problem in the evenings within a two/five-block radius. Finding parking in the daytime is more challenging. There are also meters and lots available for paid parking. We provide clean bedding and towels for the guests, and there is free super-speedy wireless Internet, maintained by on-site IT guys. Little bonuses: We can provide Yoga mats at no charge for you to practice during your stay (we only ask that you wash them after using them). We have great maps and local directories to make navigating the city easy. There is a hot-pink cheetah print hair dryer and most other amenities (not all hot pink cheetah print) available upon request if available. Interaction with GuestsCatherine and Karl are available for questions and recommendations about anything related to the house and the neighborhood. We both have busy schedules, and our times at home will vary. Occasionally we me be available to have share a meal with you in the kitchen, if time permits! The NeighborhoodWe have lived in many neighborhoods in NYC over the years, and this one has by far some of the fastest access to all parts of the city due to all of the trains and our location to Manhattan and Brooklyn. Despite this, when you are in our home, it feels like a secret hideaway from the bustle of the rest of the city. Long Island City, or LIC as we call it, is a rapidly changing neighborhood. Traditionally filled with warehouses, artist's studios and film studios, it is now quickly become a hot residential area, for better or worse. We love it here because there is a nice sense of community both in the house and the neighborhood. Everyone in the house is an artist, as are many of the neighbors. Getting AroundWe are across the street from the 7 subway line, which takes you straight to Manhattan (8 minutes to Grand Central, 12 minutes to Times Square). The E, M, and G subway lines are also one block away, giving just as speedy access to all parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn (5-10 min to 5th Avenue/Central Park, 5 min to Williamsburg, 30 min to Park Slope) and Queens. Other Things to NoteOur son was born in July of 2016, so he is likely still a baby during your stay. He sleeps in our room, which is one floor up from where you will be staying, and is a generally chill kid. The walls are thick and we have never had a problem with him interfering with a guest's sleep.

The SpaceHello! I have one large, furnished, private room in a two-bedroom apartment and shared bathroom. The apt building is in an excellent location in the heart of Long Island City/Queens near museums, boutiques, bars, restaurants, coffee shops. The apt is 2-3 blocks to the subway: E, M, 7, and G trains. 15-20 minutes from midtown Manhattan. The room and apt: -The apt is on the 1st floor of the building -Equipt with gas heat, electric, wi-fi, cable (dvr, AC- cable in your room) -Room has a queen bed, dresser, bedstand, wardrobe, tv and tv stand... there is room for a little more. Who I am: I am a young, 45 year woman working in Manhattan. I'm a College Administrator at Hunter College-CUNY. My students keep me young..most people think I'm in my early 30's (very up on pop culture ;-) I work M-F, 9-5, but I'm social so I may be out a few nights a week- usually at the gym or yoga. I'm pretty chill though- like to relax and watch tv (I heart sports too). Pets: Dog-lovers only! :-) I have a gorgeous 11-yr old Olde English Bulldogge named Cody. He is the sweetest most well-behaved pup. He will immediately treat you like family but he is very obedient. My bdlg is pet friendly so if you are traveling with any animals we can chat about you bringing a pet too-my boy loves other animals (cats, dogs) they would preferably get to meet first, but I realize this may not be possible. (There is a dogpark 1 1/2 blocks away). I also have two fabulous dogwalkers so you could use them as well, if needed. Bdlg: Pre-war..lots of character, friendly neighbors, amazing super. Laundry is in the building behind us or a few blocks away. Free, quick laundry pick up and drop off service in the neighborhood. There is long-term parking on the streets surrounding the bdlg. Sorry, no smoking in the apt. Linens, towels, hair dryer and iron provided. BEFORE YOU BOOK, PLEASE NOTE: IMPORTANT: Please be aware that there has recently been some construction across the street from the apartment building. NYC allows construction to happen from 7am-6pm from Monday-Friday. I have not had any guests complain about being woken up but since it's so close it can be loud. I do have earplugs for you and if you are up early and out for the day it will not bother you at all. I just wanted you to be aware. So far it hasn't bothered me too much! :-) Also during the winter, when the heat goes on, the heat can make banging noises when it goes on (steam pressure in the pipes) and the radiators do not turn off unfortunately! But you can crack the window if it gets too hot! It's not always loud! Lastly, please make sure to check the MTA Subway Train Service Advisories before booking as there have been changes to the train schedules in my area lately. Search for MTA Subway Service Advisories on the web and choose the E, M, 7 and G train lines. If you have any questions, please let me know. Cheers! Guest AccessYour own set of keys! Come and go as you please. :-) Interaction with GuestsI interact often!! Would be delighted to chat! The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is quiet but so close and convenient to Manhattan. There is a cool art vibe in LIC and the view of the city is spectacular!

Apartment is located on the ground floor in the back of the building so it is quiet (and there are no stairs to climb with your suitcases!) Bed sleeps two people (Please note: Standard, American "Full size" or "Double" bed: 54x75"). I provide fresh sheets, towels, bath soap, Pantene shampoo/conditioner, hair dryer, flat iron, clothes iron/ ironing board, cable TV, Netflix, and wireless internet. There is a grocery store and laundromat down the street. Also a diner, deli, and coffee shop, all open 24-hours! Vernon Boulevard is a short walk away and is filled with charming shops, restaurants, and bars. There is also a health food store, liquor store, and gourmet ice cream shop close by. Gantry State Park is a beautiful park only 10 minutes away and has excellent views of Manhattan--I highly recommend it if you have time. Bedrooms are located on opposite ends of the apartment (with the bathroom, kitchen, and living room in between), so you will have your privacy. Also, my typical guests are up and out early in the morning to take advantage of all this great city has to offer, and usually just come home to sleep and shower...this is ideal since I work mostly from home. You are free to come and go as you please and I don't mind if you arrive late at night, I just ask that you be quiet when you arrive if I am home sleeping, and I will do the same :) Also, the building where I live is very quiet and family-oriented so I ask that you be respectful of that. I take pride in having a beautiful, comfortable living space and I am happy to share it. Although it is a small apartment--in typical New York City fashion!--it is very neat and well-appointed and you will find everything you need. Also, I am in the habit of taking off my shoes when I come in the door and I ask that you do the same :) I am more than happy to offer suggestions on where to go and what to see while you are in New York, and I’ve also been known to play tour-guide on occasion. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks and I look forward to being your host in New York City!

The SpaceMy home is my sanctuary. That's the feeling I need in a home. It's very spacious, and not just by NYC standards. I've taken great care in curating the space, the footprint, layout, and overall mood. It's extremely inviting, warm, and revitalizing. - The living room: has a lovely separate dining area that seats four. Comfy couch to kick your feet up and relax after a day of walking. - The kitchen: I love to cook, so cookware is abundant, if you feel the urge to whip something up. And since it's so close to the grocery store, it'd be extremely easy. - The bedroom: has a queen size bed with a latex hypoallergenic memory foam mattress (think tempurpedic style). The comforter is also hypoallergenic. There are fresh clean linens and towels in the closet adjacent to the bedroom and restroom. - The restroom: has a full tub shower with a powerful showerhead. Guest AccessThe living space includes a fully equipped kitchen, TV with connection to AppleTV, Netflix, HBO GO, and Showtime, and high-speed WiFi. Interaction with GuestsI will not be present. I will have a neighbor check in from time to time. The NeighborhoodThe main highlights of this neighborhood would be MOMA PS1 and Gantry State Plaza. Gantry State Plaza is a must-see highlight of your trip, and it's just a 15 min walk towards the East River. It has the best views of NYC...guarantee. From there, you can hop on the East River Ferry to access Manhattan or Brooklyn. It's beautiful. MOMA PS1 is a contemporary museum housed in what was once a school. It is part of the main MOMA museum located in the city (just 8 min away). If you're looking to get some exercise in, there is an amazing indoor climbing gym called The Cliffs, LIC. If you're interested in getting a great workout, it's definitely worth checking out. In case you need supplies of sorts, there is a grocery store, laundromat, and various bodegas right on the block. Getting AroundThe actual main selling point of my place is the location. I have 4 different subway lines (E,M,G,7) that takes you anywhere within a very short time. Here are some example times (walking & waiting included): - Midtown Manhattan: 5 min - Grand Central: 15 min - Williamsburg/Greenpoint: 18 min - Union Square: 20 min - Harlem: 30 min - Times Square (if you must): 19 min - SoHo: 22 min - Chinatown / LES: 25 min I highly recommend downloading a subway map app. I personally use an app called "iTransNYC." It does cost $4, but totally worth it b/c the trip planner takes into account service changes. The subways here are always being worked on, especially at night and weekends...always.

The SpacePrivate bedroom, SHARED bathroom in a clean, 2-bedroom apartment located on the 2nd floor (up 2 short flights of stairs). There's no elevator. Breakfast is included in the price - you can help yourself to coffee, tea and to an assortment of cereals, bread and eggs and anything I have in the refrigerator. You (couples or single women only) will be sharing with me and my 20lb. dog named Schatzi, a sweet, quiet Lhasa Apso mix. I have no television, but wifi is fast and free. My (very well stocked) kitchen is your kitchen, so if you want to cook yourself a meal, all I ask is that you share some with me (!) and clean up after. No need to lug shampoos, shower gels and conditioners - you can use mine if you wish. THE ROOM: - 11 x 13 feet (fairly large for NYC) - 2 large windows - Lots of sunlight and airy - Large, queen size bed - Closet + lots of hangers - Desk and chair - Air conditioning & central heating - Clean sheets, pillows, blankets, towels - International electrical adapter/outlet - Iron/ironing board THE APARTMENT: - 1 (SHARED) bathroom - You get a set of keys to the apartment so you can enter and leave as you please - Fully equipped, clean kitchen (microwave, toaster, oven, stove top espresso, coffee press) - Clean, fully stocked bathroom (hair dryer, shampoos etc) - Living room with a dining table - Free high-speed WIFI - Laundromats with delivery service close by CHECK IN/OUT TIMES: Flexible except when another party is checking out on the same day you arrive, or checking in on the same day that you are departing. In which case the check in and out times are as follows: -Check out time is 11:00 am -Check In time is 3:00 pm or later You can drop your luggage at any time on check-in day and also leave them in the living room while you are sight seeing on your check-out day. As of April 2015, there's been construction on the building across the street, and although its not super loud yet, it sometimes start at 7am and could go on till 4pm. There's an air-conditioner with a fan in the room which helps mitigate the noise, but its something to keep in mind if you plan to sleep late. Other than that, the neighborhood is fairly quiet. Interaction with GuestsMy home is your home, so you have an all-access pass! I am a fountain of information (even if I say so myself ;) and am available to help you plan your day with customized advice on sightseeing, FOOD! shopping, live music, concerts, sports events etc. I love my city, and will be very happy to share it with you. The NeighborhoodLong Island City (not to be confused with Long Island which is NOT part of NYC,) is a safe and relatively quiet neighborhood. Its the perfect place to stay while visiting NY: more convenient to get to and from Times Square, the theaters and the main tourist areas than from downtown or uptown Manhattan, yet relatively quiet and peaceful with lots of galleries and MoMA PS1 Contemporary Art Museum down the block. Getting AroundThe apartment is a 3-minute subway ride from Midtown Manhattan The subway stations for the E, M and 7 trains and the G trains are just 2-3 blocks away. Greenpoint and Williamsburg are just across the Pulaski Bridge, a few stops on the G train. Street parking is very scarce - I always schedule my errands around when I'm more likely to find parking. Alternatively, paid lots ($10-$15 a day) are just a few blocks away. Other Things to NoteTraveling tips: 1. Even if you're going to be here for less than 7 days, do buy a 7-day unlimited MetroCard for the subway and buses. It's economical and makes sense even if you're going to be here for just 3 or 4 days. 2. Download an app called Citymapper which will help you navigate our very vast and extensive subway system. You can get specific directions and have access to the subway map even without wifi - very helpful. 3. 2. Get ready to walk! NYC is built for walking, and although you'll probably have an unlimited MetroCard for the subway, you're still going to be doing a lot of walking! 4. What you MUST bring is a pair of really comfortable, thick-soled shoes. A fair number of guests have come with thin-soled shoes and then get sore feet, although in retrospect, it might just be another reason to shop some more! A note for our foreign visitors: please be aware that it is customary to tip 15-20% when you eat out at restaurants. Waiters/waitresses do not get paid a normal salary and rely on tips to make their wages, so be generous to our poor service people!! Of course, if the service is not good, then you can reduce tips appropriately, but here in NY, 15% is the minimum. The only other person you tip is a taxi driver who generally gets about 10% of the metered fare.

The SpaceUPDATE: My apartment was recently featured in an Airbnb commercial, so when you stay here, you can tell your friends and family you stayed in a "famous" apartment! Check it out on Airbnb's (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) page. It's the video called "Thank You, New York!" Welcome to your new New York home! This is a 900 sq. ft. 2br located in New York City's greatest neighborhood, Long Island City. From here, you have practically immediate access to all that New York City has to offer. This listing affords you a private bedroom with 42" TV, and access to a kitchen/common space. The common space has a "wanderlust" theme, and I hope you'll enjoy it! The decor is pulled from items I have acquired from my travels, from carved wooden statues in Kenya, to a canvas from Israel, to lots of other little trinkets and knick-knacks. The coffee table is also a hacked Ikea table that I covered with a 1977 New York Times Atlas. The common space also offers a 42" TV, DVD Player, Cable, and Xbox. My home is yours to share! Do note that we have a rainfall showerhead. It's amazing. Guest AccessOther than the master bedroom, this apartment is yours for the using! You'll have full access to the kitchen, bathroom and common space. I encourage you to take full advantage of this. You can make coffee three different ways, from a Chemex to a french press to an espresso machine. Kitchen is also equipped with gas range, oven, microwave, stand mixer, immersion blender, and Ninja blender. Happy to share my groceries, drinks, etc., all I ask is that you ask first! You'll be staying in a private bedroom this 2br apartment. I'll be here for the duration of your stay. Interaction with GuestsI moved my business to the Long Island City area two years ago, and absolutely fell in love with the neighborhood. As soon as I could, I decided to move myself to the neighborhood as well. I am happy to interact with you as much, or as little, as you want. During the week I'm usually at the office early (7-9) to late (6-9), and am in-and-out on the weekends. Though I'm excited to meet you and happy to act as your guide, I'll be as invisible as Casper if you want me to. The NeighborhoodLong Island City is the ultimate, in my mind, the urban slant on the urban-suburban dwelling. From here, you'll have access to everything without having to live on top of anything! Long Island City has incredibly eclectic food options, including some of the best BBQ in NYC, Thai, Cuban, Vietnamese, Peruvian, French, Mexican, and more are all available to you within an 8-minute walk from the apartment. Hop on the subway and there's a world of options available to you in Queens and Manhattan. LIC also offers you the best views of our famed skyline from the East River, and it's better than any you'll get in Manhattan. Walk to the water (~10min), and you'll be able to take it all in. Nearby are such cultural experiences as MoMA's PS1, the Museum of the Moving Image (a must for any movie fan!), Socrates Sculpture Park, and more. Of course, there's a lot you're going to want to do in Manhattan, but don't overlook the opportunities you'll have here in LIC too. Getting AroundI can't even begin to tell you how easy and accessible this place is. You can see the subway stop from the window of this guest bedroom! On the 7 line and 2 stops to Grand Central, 4 to Times Square (10min). Beyond that, the Long Island Rail Road is also a half-block away, with convenient access to weekday rush hour trains. There is also a plethora of bus options, and if you want to drive, we are just off the LIE and conveniently located near the 59th Street (no tolls!) bridge. Other Things to NoteJust note we don't have a dishwasher. You will have to wash your dishes, and I just ask that they be done daily, and all food thrown out ASAP. Since this is a first floor apartment, we want to avoid leaving anything for critters to get to!
