The SpaceImmaculate bayside gateway to the majestic Pacific Northwest * 2 Bedrooms, sleeps 8 maximum * 2 1/2 Baths * Updated throughout * Quiet, private beach * Stone's throw from the water's edge * Two sea kayaks * Lots of outdoor areas for entertaining * Large deck and paved patio with terrace * Outdoor fire pit area * Parking for 5 cars * Short drive to Gig Harbor * Internet and Wi-Fi * Smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Pandora, etc. Come visit our secluded beachside A-frame, nestled in the deep water cove on the north end of Filucy Bay! Situated at the water's edge of a 2.79 acre property, our beautiful 2 bedroom home offers comfortable furnishings, plenty of outdoor entertaining space, and easy access to the shops, restaurants and activities of Gig Harbor. Nicely updated and improved, the house is cozy, yet bright and open, boasting views from every room. And, we are excited to announce, we've completed our own stairs to access the beach! Stella Maris offers that elusive opportunity to slow life down and relax. Breathe in the fresh Puget Sound air. Close your eyes and listen to the waves lapping and rippling over pebbles and clams. Open them again and watch the spiraling flight of seagulls hunting for breakfast, the playful antics of sea otters or perhaps, if you're lucky, even a bald eagle. Read that book you keep meaning to pick up, or choose one of ours. Perfect for families or romantic getaways, Stella Maris at once provides quiet seclusion and a gateway to local wineries, restaurants, family farms, state parks, golf, boating and more. Tour an underwater submarine or try Anthony's Homeport famous clam chowder in Bremerton. Ride the iconic Puget Sound ferries to Seattle, visit the myriad museums of Tacoma, or take a hike in the Olympic National Rain Forest. Day-trip to the nearby Lavendar Farm or cross the Narrows Bridge to watch our Triple-A baseball home team, the Rainiers, play an afternoon game at the beautifully renovated Cheney Stadium. Or, you can always just stay in and use our kayaks to explore Filucy Bay, hunt for sea creatures and take in the quiet nature. At the end of the day, gather round the patio campfire for roasted s'mores or a glass of Trillium Creek wine and enjoy your perfect slice of the incomparable Pacific Northwest. Other Things to NoteWhile we have a 2 night minimum stay we HIGHLY recommend booking for three nights or more if your travel plans allow. Stella Maris truly is a special place and frequently we have guests request to extend their stay. While we love accommodating when it is possible often we have back to back bookings and cannot offer more time. Please note that we have an 8 person maximum. This is both because that is the number of people who can comfortably sleep at Stella Maris but also so that we can preserve the quiet nature of the area. We have included a $200/person/night additional charge option. This is for guests who REALLY want that extra guest but also as a penalty in the event an extra body accidentally ended up in the suitcase.

The SpaceCompleted in 2015, the apartment is built above our garage with a private access stair and generous exterior decks at each end - one faces the forest to the south and the other faces the beach to the north. The apartment is tucked just behind our home, on the other side of a small Japanese garden. There is a double and a single bed in the sleeping loft that looks down to the living room below and out to the beach beyond through a large round window. There is also a ‘pull-out’ sofa in the living area that makes up into a double bed. The apartment has an open floor plan with a cathedral ceiling above the living and dining areas. It includes a bathroom with a skylight and tile shower. The utility closet includes a full-sized washer and dryer and the kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need to prepare and share a meal. Guest AccessGuests have full access to our beach - a sandy point on Dana Passage. We live on a bluff though so please note - although the stairs to the beach are new, there are 101 of them. Our climb is not for the faint of heart. From our beach you can watch the sun rise above Dickerson Point and set over Harstine Island. Bald eagles perch in the trees above and (if you’re lucky), you will see pods of Orca whales swim by in the summer Interaction with GuestsWe have lived in Olympia for the past 35 years. We know this area very well and provide our guests with a list of our favorite restaurants, shops and activities in our 'guest book'. We offer as much (or as little) interaction with our guests as they want. The NeighborhoodThe Fishtrap neighborhood is nestled in mature Douglas Firs and Western Red Cedar trees with miles of bicycle and hiking trails nearby. The apartment is just a 15 - 20 minute drive to the State Capital with its waterfront parks, galleries and the largest Farmer's Market south of Seattle. Getting AroundGiven the property's seclusion, there is no access to public transit but quick access by car to downtown Olympia to the south and the freeways to the north make Fishtrap a private but convenient location. 'The loop' invites long walks and it is one of the area's most popular bicycling destinations. Other Things to NoteFishtrap Loop is a favorite destination for local bicyclists and the Chehalis Western bicycle path (a ten minute ride from Fishtrap) passes through forests and farms heading nearly 22 miles south through the Deschutes River valley.

We have a full wrap around deck so close to the water it feels like you are floating. We are in a rural area, so it's relaxing and quiet. There are plenty of DVDs, and lots of games. The Puget Sound is located in Washington State. It is cold ocean water, with low and high tides, but no crashing surf. Our beach is wide and open with lots of sand, and plenty of pretty treasures for beach combing. We are close to several towns if someone wants to do shopping, antiquing, go out to eat or to a movie. There are several state parks nearby to hike or pic-nick. Seattle and Olympia are close enough to do a day trip. PLEASE NOTE: we are NOT handicapped accessible. Wild Life: This section of the Puget Sound has abundant sea life including a small pod of Orca Whales (also known as "Killer Whales") otter, frequent sightings of seals, Red Box crab, and two types of jellyfish. There are moon snail, several varieties of clams that range from smaller than a dime to more than 8 inches across, and whelks. You will find lots of shells. We also have a nearby area that live sand dollars grow. A bald eagle often flies in front of the cabin; gulls, herons, ducks, cormorants, and other birds are common sights. We occasionally hear sea lions at night and seals are often watching us from the water in front of the house. Parking and Accessibility: We have a large parking space that can hold at least 5 cars, or several RV's. We do NOT have electrical hookup or a dump station. This house is NOT handicapped accessible because the parking lot is at the top of the hill, and there are TWO long flights of stairs connected by concrete pathway to get down to the house on the beach. We have tried to include many of your necessities to enable you to pack light. Electronics and Entertainment: Our beach house has a Blu-Ray/DVD player in the living room. We keep a large collection of DVDs but there is NO Internet service. There is no TV service, or cable either. Imagine being able to concentrate on interacting with each other instead of faces buried in electronic devices! Cell phone service (both phone and data) are subject to the whims of the cell phone gods... sometimes we get AT&T, sometimes Verizon, and usually Cricket. I'm not sure of the others. We have some games, cards and puzzles, and the lending book library is on the small size for now but growing.

You'll love our beach house on Harstine Island's southern tip. Take in stunning views of the Olympic Mountains, Squaxin Island and Peale Passage from the huge deck and the rock, gravel and sand beach. Wander and explore the expansive tidelands. Comb the endless beach for sand dollars, sea shells, driftwood and other treasures while enjoying the solitude of one of Puget Sound's undiscovered gems. Bring your boat or use ours. Larger boats can be moored on our buoy. Swim, fish and crab in the clean waters of Puget Sound. Most of the beaches on Harstine Island are privately owned, including all of the beaches you can access by walking from the house. All of the owners allow people to walk along their beaches, but gathering shellfish (clams, oysters and geoduck) by our guests is prohibited on these private beaches. Property owners are very concerned about people taking shellfish from their beaches, so I ask that you please respect their property. The beach in front of my property has been over-harvested of its shellfish, so to allow nature to recover we are asking guests to only gather shellfish on the public beaches on the island. There is more information below on the public beaches and in the guidebooks at the house. My bulkhead, made of large concrete blocks, is 100 feet long, and covers the width of my property. My beach goes all the way out to the lowest low tide point. You are free to walk on any part of my beach and neighboring beaches, north or south, but please DO NOT gather shellfish from the beach directly in front of the house or from neighboring beaches. If you are planning to gather shellfish, you can drive to several public beaches on the island. One is Harstine Island State Park, which requires a short hike to the beach (DNR-24 beach) and is open to the public for clams and oysters all year. You can walk south on this beach for about a mile and you'll reach McMicken Island State Park, where there is also great shell fishing. Plan to be there at low tide for the best shell fishing. Here is the web address for more information about these beaches: http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/beaches/280820/

You can walk on the beach in either direction, usually without seeing another soul. The cottage also has canoes, a rowboat, and standup paddle board with life vests, if your family would like to explore the water and do some fishing. If you just want to sit back, relax, and take in the views, you are likely to see some of the extensive wildlife that calls this area home. This cottage is in the flight path of a pair of bald eagles and they will often give you a flyover while you sit on the deck enjoying a meal. The yard also attracts hummingbirds most of the year. Seals and river otter have been spotted playing on the beach in front of the cottage as well. Occasionally a transient orca or pod of porpoises will swim past as well. The interior of the home has been completely remodeled. The cottage sleeps six, but can be made to accommodate two more, for an additional fee, for a total of eight. The downstairs bunk room has one set of bunkbeds and a twin daybed that can be pulled out into a king. The upstairs loft has a king bed with memory foam mattress. This charming vacation property is located just to the west of Olympia, on the tip of Johnson Point, where you'll view an abundance of wildlife, and sip your favorite morning brew while watching the constant flow of tugs, trawlers, and sailors rounding the Point on their Puget Sound journeys. To the east is a breathtaking view of Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountains, and to the west is a magnificent view of the majestic Olympics. The township of Lacey, and Sate Capitol of Olympia are just a short driving distance away (15 minutes or so), with ample entertainment, including; shopping, restaurants, theaters, etc. The larger city of Tacoma lies 30 minutes to the North, with additional sites of interest, including the Museum of Glass and the LeMay Car Museum. If trips to the city aren't your thing, use our Johnson Point Beach Retreat as your home base for travels westward to the Olympic National Park, or Washington Coastline. To the east is the Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, and Mount Rainier National Park, while to the south is the Visitors Center at Mt St. Helens (one Visitor's 'highlight' was a ride on the 'Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad' traveling through the forests between the Mt. Rainier National Park and the Mt. St. Helens National Monument. Upon arrival at our home, you'll park on the upper tier of the property where ample parking is available. You'll then take a short journey to the beach along a meandering hill-side path, while your luggage and other vacation supplies are shuttled to the beachfront home aboard an old-fashioned trolley car. At the bottom of the staired path, you'll be only a few short steps across a cobblestone path from your vacation home. The home is located on the lower tier of the property, at the water's edge, where the sandy beach lies just beyond the protective bulkhead - less than ten feet from the front of the home! Tidal variations are rather extreme in the Puget Sound, fluctuating by as much as 20 feet vertically from the highest of highs, to the lowest of lows. When the tide is up, you'll feel as though you're floating in a houseboat. When the tide is out, you'll enjoy one of the finest sandy shores on the Sound. Grab a shovel and dig for clams, or kayak to the local Marina for candy or ice-cream treats. A mooring buoy is located just off-shore for those wishing to bring along a pleasure boat. With approximately 1,400 square feet of total living space, the home may not be large, but it has a very efficient design. The first floor is open and includes the kitchen, dining, and living space, plus a half-bath with a nook for the washer/dryer. The upper floor has two large bedrooms with king beds, a kids room with twin bed, and a full bath with double sinks. A cozy bungalow room is detached from the main home and can accomodate an additional overnight guest on a queen sleeper sofa, or just provide a place for the kids to get away. While you may prefer to detach from the real world during your stay, there is no need to feel disconnected. The home has a wireless, high-speed Comcast connection, Smart TV, and free nationwide long distance service. There is a Hot Tub as well, but you'll have to venture back up to an intermediate tier of the property to warm your bones. The short hike is worth it though, as you'll have a stunning view by day, or be blanketed by the moon and stars at night. Of course, no evening at the beach is complete without the warmth and crackle of an open fire. So uncork your favorite bottle of wine, or grab a few cold ones, and close out the evening in style with family and friends gathered around the large stone fire pit. Whether you're seeking a 'Home-Away' for visiting family & friends, searching for a romantic get-a-way location, or just wanting a place to relax & unwind, there is no better location! The Johnson Point Beach Retreat is also the perfect family destination for the entire family, where the kids can swim, play, and hunt for crabs and clams, while the older generation can stroll the shores, go for a paddle, or simply relax and create memories that will last a lifetime. Anchored approximately 100 feet offshore is a large Swim Float. The waters of the Puget Sound are a bit frigid though, so bring a wet-suit if you have one. Life-jackets are available and can be provided with advance notice. Just be prepared to supervise your children adequately as the chilly waters and strong tides and currents must be respected! If you are a fisherman (or your kids are), bring a rod, drop a line off the raft, and try your luck. There is a variety to be caught, including bullheads, flounder, dogfish, and even the occasional scavenging shark! If your timing is right (typically August and September), you may get lucky and haul in a King, Steelhead or Silver salmon. If you need some gear, stop by the Cabela's store, just 10 minutes away, for all your fishing needs! Zittel's Marina, with a protected boat-launch, and hourly/daily power-boat rentals is less than a mile down the road. The quaint seaside neighborhood of Boston Harbor is also nearby, with a launch, hourly and daily kayak rentals, and a large patio with tables and chairs for relaxing. If you have any water toys, bring them along! If not, we have an assortment of Adult, Junior, and Kid kayaks available for modest fee's as listed below. Immaculate bayside gateway to the majestic Pacific Northwest * 2 Bedrooms, sleeps 8 maximum * 2 1/2 Baths * Updated throughout * Quiet, private beach * Stone's throw from the water's edge * Two sea kayaks * Lots of outdoor areas for entertaining * Large deck and paved patio with terrace * Outdoor fire pit area * Parking for 5 cars * Short drive to Gig Harbor * Internet and Wi-Fi * Smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. Please see the "Location" tab for more day trip ideas. ~ While we have a 2 night minimum stay we HIGHLY recommend booking for three nights or more if your travel plans allow. Stella Maris truly is a special place and frequently we have guests request to extend their stay. While we love accommodating when it is possible often we have back to back bookings and cannot offer more time. ~ Please note that we have an 8 person maximum.
