The SpaceTHE HUMMEL HOUSE Hummel House is located on Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands. We are a 40 minutes ferry ride from Anacortes Wa. and about 100 miles north of Sea Tac airport. There is shuttle service from the airport to the Anacortes ferry landing.. When you arrive at the Hummel House you will find four cozy bedrooms with a shared bath on the second floor of a five bedroom hand crafted family home in a woodland setting over looking Hummel Lake, a thirty two acre fresh water lake. We have photo of only one bedroom at this time. Others will be photographed soon. Our family has lived almost forty years in this unique home which we designed and built ourselves. We heat with wood, have chickens, a large vegetable garden, fruit trees, flower gardens and a greenhouse. Children are welcome. Lopez Village, a half a mile away, provides several dining choices as well as bike and kayak rentals with beach and woodland trails close by. We have just received our first reservation for the week end of Tour de Lopez. This is an annual bike tour with several organized events on April 26th. Please go to the Tour De Lopez web page and get more information about the events scheduled for that day and to make reservations to participate in the tour. Reservations are required and limited . We expect to have a full house for this event so make your reservations with us early as well. We have shared our home for many years with interns, travelers and visitors from the United States and other parts of the world. Our lives have been enriched by each guest’s story. Day hikes abound Shark Reef for sunsets, Watmough for vistas...ferries are a new thing so if you arrive early or leave late, visit the island sites. The NeighborhoodVery Quiet, except for birdsong, great for star viewing, lovely protected bay. Good for sailing, kayaking, crabbing(licensed req'd), beach combing… New eagle's nest four lots west (left) along the beach. Getting AroundThe main store in the village is fully equipped so pack light. If ferries have you arrive early, do a day hike, visit the shore or people watch in town. Near the house on the south end, just 1.5 miles away is a grocery w/ wifi, a restaurant deli, gas. Other Things to Note**Pets only allowed by permission in advance- require signage of pet addendum and fee of $75. **3 night prefrred July August,2016

    The SpaceBeautifully restored Farm house in Lopez Island. Take a step back in time at this charming Lopez Island Farm House on 47 acres ... Lots of room to roam, close to Otis Perkins Beach! This cozy farmhouse has been furnished and decorated in keeping with the era of its construction. You will enjoy the vintage dressers, dining room set and overall decor of this peaceful setting on Lopez. Large wall of windows in the living room allow plenty of light, bright and airy bedrooms joined by an upstairs foyer. Wifi internet included plus TV and a DVD player (Small). Grand piano (Sorry, you probably won't want to compose your masterpiece on this one right now ... it could use tuning) Beautiful fireplace in living room. You will spend many hours watching the deer roam around the property. The well provides great tasting cool water. The septic system is great, but sensitive to foreign material, such as tampons etc. Full kitchen with new 5 burner gas stove. 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath. Refrigerator with icemaker, Washer / dryer. Microwave oven, Toaster, coffeemaker, dishes and flatware. Fresh linens and towels included. A perfect get away with lots of charm. New Note: There is TV service at this house, and there is a DVD player built into a 24" monitor just near the Bathroom door in the study (You are welcome to carry this into the living room.) The property Care Taker lives on the grounds in separate care taker's quarters across the driveway from the main house. Pets are NOT allowed at this property. I raised my children during the Summers at Lopez. My home is centrally located on the sunny west side of Lopez approximately half way down the Island. The village is nearby, and the Galley and the Islander restaurants are close. As far as activities, you are just around the corner from Bayshore Road and Otis Perkins Park. Lots of driftwood, fabulous sunsets. Great ice cream in the village at the fudge shop. Odlin Park, in the North near the ferry has great flat beaches and squirting clams. The Golf course has 9 holes. The Lopez International Airport is close. Shark Reef Park is just down Airport Road. Best Regards, Don Peake

            The SpaceWe are a 3 minute walk to the village of Lopez, yet tucked away and private. We have created a sanctuary of plants and so there is an abundance of bird watching. Lay on the dock on the pond and become one with the dragonfly's. We usually have a heron lurking in the pond also. The neighbors have beautiful horses. The NeighborhoodWe are rural for sure. We love our home and surrounding area. Our home is new, but we live on land that has been in our family for over 90 years. There are fish in our pond that need fished. Getting AroundThe island is 12 miles long x 7 miles wide. Biking only is and option Other Things to NoteWe would need you to sign a waiver to be able to swim in the pond. We also have another one bedroom round building if you need extra room. Of course there would be and extra charge.

            The SpaceIf you like back country camping, or the feeling of privacy on a spectacular island, you will love this yurt. There is no running water or electricity, but we will provide a Coleman stove, LED lantern, and bottled water, plus linens (sheets, pillows & down comforter) for the bed, as well as a listing of our favorite things to do and places to go on the island. Beautiful beaches, trail hikes, and excellent cycling are all around; kayaking and whale watching, wine tasting and community events are also accessible. This is a center-island location, nestled next to a working farm and many acres of forested land. The central location is perfect for exploring the whole island. The queen bed is very comfortable for 2 adults. There is floor space for additional people (probably 2 adults or a few kids), but mats/bedding are not provided for additional guests. The outhouse adjacent to the yurt serves as the bathroom. Showers, should you need one, are available in town at the Village Park. Guest AccessGuests may have access to organic vegetables and fruit from our garden and orchard, depending on season and availability. Interaction with GuestsIf we are home, we would love to meet you! Lopez is the flattest of the San Juans and the nicest to get around by bike. To get to Lopez you will probably take the Washington State ferry. You can reserve a spot on the ferry in advance (we highly recommend this!) - (URL HIDDEN) Alternatively, you can park your car in Anacortes and bike onto the island - this is cheaper, and you don't need a reservation. There has been much thought put into making the sure home is fully stocked with anything you may need during your stay.' - Recent Guest While outside is magical, inside is furnished to perfection for upscale comfort and function. You will feel well cared for here, in your island sanctuary. It sits above the waterfront for lovely water views. A sizeable deck wraps the house on the waterside where you can enjoy a BBQ evening. On a misty night, you may choose to stay indoors, gathered around the glow of a Wood Stove. After conversation and contemplation, sit back and enjoy the cable television - complete with all the movie channels, provided in both the living room. WIFI internet and telephone are also available. Meal preparation is a joy in this kitchen equipped with an island, maple cabinets, granite counters, and stainless steel appliances. Slate and tile are widely used, including in the attractive bathroom where the radiant floors will keep your toes warm. At the end of the day, there's a comfortable king-size bed in the upper level master bedroom with amazing views. A second bedroom contains a queen bed and there are two twin beds in the third.                   The SpaceGlamping? Please bring sleeping bags and pillows. I do not provide bed linens for the platform beds inside the yurt. Also, the yurt has insulation, and a small woodstove but this is not a substitute for a well insulated heated home; dress appropriately it can get cold here on the water. There is a closet inside the house with all the yurt supplies including an electric tea kettle, electric lights folding chairs and extra blankets. There is a cooler and ice for your perishables. Inside the yurt are three platform beds with really comfy latex foam mattresses they can be pushed together or pulled apart, you make the arrangements. No electricity or EMF's inside the yurt, but there is an outlet and wifi inside the house for charging essentials. Because of water restrictions on site, I am not able to provide linens for the beds or towels, please bring your own. I also ask that you take short showers and conserve water. I know it sounds funny to say there is a water shortage here where it is so Green, but Lopez Island is essentially a rock and the rain water just runs off into the ocean. Because I charge no cleaning fees, I ask that you keep things tidy and you clean up after yourself. Thanks in advance for living in a way that respects the natural beauty of The Salish Sea. Guest AccessGetting here from the ferry landing is easy: the roads are county maintained, public all weather surface right to the property. Yurt has a 18 foot diameter with 250 sq ft of floor space. It is surrounded by a deck and there are stairs to the beach 20 feet below. Also includes access to you own private bathroom in the main house with shower and laundry. Please remove your shoes when inside and be careful walking on the decks and the pathways around the property as the rain make things a bit slippery . There is parking for one vehicle only. Extra parking is available at the nearby public boat ramp at Hunter Bay. Guests have access to the main house entry corridor where there is a bathroom, shower, and essentials for making tea/ coffee. Interaction with GuestsI live on site, the property is two lots with 112 feet of waterfront. The property is very private with undeveloped acreage adjacent . If I am not home, I will leave you a key to the front door of the house so you may access your private bathroom. Otherwise, my doors are unlocked and please feel free to stop in and chat. The sign on the driveway says "chat lunatique" but that means beware of the crazy cat and not that I am crazy or that I will bother you with conversation. It is best to reach me by email. Lopez island is the first stop on the Anacortes- Sidney BC ferry westbound. See Washington State Ferries website for schedule. My yurt is located 4 km from the South End General Store; and 10kim from the Lopez village and Fisherman Bay. It is a 19 minute drive from the ferry landing. Also, by boat I am located 15 km across Rosario st. From Skyline Marina. My yurt faces Sourh/ East and is right on the water with terrific views of mt. baker ( Kulshan if you want to be accurate). Mud bay is a protected anchorage, so it is great for kayaking paddle boarding and exploring the calm waters. It is a 6 km paddle , round trip, to Lopez pass which leads to Rosario Strait. Lopez island is the most southerly island in the San Juan archipelago. Here are some local businesses to look up to get a feel for Lopez: Barn Owl Bakery - Wood fired wild leavened all organic breads and pastries, made from scratch using local grain, fruits, nuts, and produce. The ferry reservation system releases the allotment at 7am on the day the allotment is scheduled. Walking on to the ferry does not require a reservation. If you planned on driving and you can't get a reservation, don't panic! I can come to get you at the ferry terminal if you walk on and you can ALWAYS walk on. I'd much rather come and get you than have you cancel and have to spend the night in some cheap hotel on the mainland ( that's just not Glamping) Once you are on Lopez, travel to and from the other San Juan islands is free if you walk or bike on, too! Also, Kennmore air flys right to Lopez island. They will land in Mud Bay ( by special arrangement) or typically they fly to Fisherman Bay. If you happen to come by boat, I have a mooring right in front.
