Rusty's Refuge is a quaint & rustic cottage that sits in a quiet area on the beautiful island of Grand Manan. It is the perfect getaway to unwind and relax. Whether you want to bird watch, whale watch, collect shells, walk on the beach, hike or just sit on the deck- this is the place to go. We personally love to sit on the deck in the sun and read books in the quiet solitude Grand Manan provides. Or, visit with friends we've made over the years and listen to stories about the island or the fishermen. Grand Mananers are friendly and have great stories to tell about the culture and history of the island. It is a simple and charming cottage that is perfect for 2 but accommodates 4. One bedroom has a double bed with storage underneath & a closet; the second bedroom has a futon that can be used as a couch if there are only 2 people. If there are 4, the futon folds into a double bed & is quite comfortable. There is also a second closet area & under bed storage. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a table that seats 4. We recommend bringing bottled water to drink as the well is old and only used during the summer & doesn't get much circulation. There is one bathroom with a stall shower. Linens and towels are provided but guests should bring their own toiletries. We encourage outdoor activities and relaxation so there is no phone, internet or TV but there is an opportunity to unplug! There are some wi-fi cafes on the island to get your fix :) Our cottage is named after our dog Rusty. Grand Manan was one of his favorite places to travel to so we commemorate him now on our trips to the island. He too loved to sit in the yard & watch the boats go by. A view of the sunrise and some of the smaller islands surrounding Grand Manan is available just by sitting in the rocking chairs or on the deck. There are only 2 other cottages on the street that are seldom occupied and a lobster pound at the end of the road. There are outdoor adirondack chairs as well as a small weber grill. We hope you enjoy our little place as much as we do. Please treat our cottage as you would your own. Set sail for adventures when you discover Grand Manan Island in the world famous Bay of Fundy. Here you can get up close and personal with puffins, migrating whales, marine wildlife and migrating seabirds on the finest tours in the bay. Our working fishing villages, herring weirs and lighthouses offer a glimpse into our maritime roots. Life on our unspoiled Fundy Island promises to capture your imagination. Dramatic coastal hiking, kayaking, combing for tidal treasures or artisan crafts – here you can be as adventurous or tranquil as you like. You can tuck yourself into a quaint cottage or inn, or sleep with the whales while camping under the stars. Dive into a freshly steamed lobster or a seasonal menu but make sure to leave room for a captivating sunset. We invite you to step ashore, to explore our rugged coastal beauty, to get inspired, and best of all to leave everyday realities down at the wharf. Courtesy of the Grand Manan Tourism website Our cottage is in Woodward's Cove. It easy to get there from North Head (where the ferry comes in) as well as convenient to the Save Easy (grocery store), bank, hardware store and post office.
