The SpaceNettles Farm has been growing food and hosting guests for many years. Here there is quiet, well appointed lodging consisting of the Farm House Suite, and also the Farmhouse, which can be viewed on our website. Privacy, and quiet marine walks. Located on scenic Lummi Island, this farmhouse suite has a luxurious queen bed, large soaking tub and shower, private deck and french doors from the bedroom, a pull-out queen sleeper in the living room, and a gourmet kitchen complete with a WoodStone oven. Private and quiet, this property is just a short walk to the famous Willows Inn, the Taproot Cafe, and a mostly deserted but wonderful west-facing beach. In addition, the Beach Store Cafe is near the ferry and is a great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I am growing specialty chickens for meat, which you can purchase. I butcher them some Saturdays, and for a fee you can learn to butcher your own. These chickens have likely not been tasted by any Americans, and some of the Sulmthaler/Auracauna crosses have likely never been eaten by anyone, ever. These birds take 6 months to mature, 4 times longer than the typical American chicken, and the flavor and texture are truly amazing. Guests can walk to the Taproot Cafe and Sunset Beach, in addition to a seven mile scenic loop that features marine views the whole way. There is a great hike ending in a spectacular view from the second highest point in the San Juan Islands, which starts from a point within biking or driving distance from the farm. I am on premises to show the farm, and to educate those who are interested about chickens, and farming in general. Since I have lived at Nettles Farm since 1992, owned the Beach Store Cafe from (phone number hidden), and owned the Willows Inn from 2001 through 2012, I can provide some historical context to what guests will encounter on the island. I provide a few bicycles during the summer, but except during drydock, which runs for 2 weeks beginning early in September, there is no public transportation on the island. The county provides a van during drydock. I have a double sea kayak available for a nominal fee, with easy access on Legoe Bay. It must be reserved, though, as is is popular. There is a huge petroglyph of a woman's face, called "She Who Watches" on a private beach near the farm, and also a fossil palm tree trunk, from 75 million years ago, on another nearby beach. Friday mornings 8:00 - 9:3(URL HIDDEN)Occasionally Mon. evenings 7:00 - 8:30 Drop-in: $15 Private sessions are also available. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Call for more information and location -- (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (land line so no texts please) In Kundalini yoga, we use specific sequences of postures/movements, breath and mantra (called kriyas) that when done together create a particular beneficial effect in the body. These sets help balance the glandular system and strengthen the nervous system as well as stretch and strengthen muscles and ligaments. Other benefits of a practice can include an improvement in immunity and energy levels; stress reduction; and more balance and clarity for the mind. I have been a student of yoga for 15+ years. Traditions I’ve studied include Hatha, Kundalini, Anusara and Viniyoga. I was first introduced to Kundalini yoga in 2002. Interested in learning more about how this form of yoga worked, I completed the 220 hour Level 1 Kundalini yoga Teacher Training Program at YogaWest in Vancouver, B.C. and received my teaching certification in 2011. I’ve finished one (Mind & Meditation) of five modules towards Level 2 certification. My practice is also influenced by studying w/ teachers from other traditions, mainly Rod Stryker (Hatha) and Tias Little (Lyengar & Hatha). I have a background in biology & ecology and love to share the science behind yoga while not losing touch with its more mystical qualities. Getting AroundYou'll need to take the ferry from Gooseberry Point, 20 minutes outside Bellingham, to get to the island. Cash is easiest, but will take check or US credit cards, collected on the ferry on the trip to the island. The ferry runs from the island on the hour and from the mainland at 10 minutes after the hour. There are extra ferries on weekdays, check the schedule for times. It only takes 7 minutes to make the crossing, but you may have to wait for a couple of ferries. Friday and Sunday afternoons are especially busy!! Most of the time, the ferry will run back and forth continuously to clear the dock if you are there waiting at the time of departure. (URL HIDDEN) The round-trip fare is $14 for car & driver, $7 for pedestrians/passengers. (URL HIDDEN) Other Things to NoteIf you hear a loud siren coming from the fire station up the road, it is either a test or calling the volunteer firemen to a local emergency. No need to worry. There are few streetlights on the island; which is great for watching the stars, but can make it challenging to find places at night. If you haven't been there before, consider arriving during daylight if possible.
