The SpaceWe debated long and hard whether to list this place on airbnb. After all, this is our hideaway, with a view that regretfully only a few will ever get to enjoy. But because we love it so much, and in the spirit of the sharing economy, we felt compelled to open its doors to others and allow you to experience the wonderful warmth that this small and rustic cabin will bring to your soul, your heart and your sight. While here, every sense is lifted, every smell improved, every sound a symphony. If you're looking for modern comfort and the latest gadgets, this is not your place. Instead, if you want to warm yourself up, you'll need to place wood in the stove. If you want to check the latest stock prices, you'll need to call your broker because Internet is NOT available. If you want to watch TV in your room, please look elsewhere. However, if you prefer to wake up to the most extraordinary sunrise in your life, simply sleep on the futon couch and open up your eyes in the early morning. If you find delight while hearing the buzz of a hummingbird, just place a few seeds in the balcony. If you want to reconnect with your inner self, seat in one of the shaker rocking chairs, pull up your legs and open that book you always wanted to complete. If you're lucky, you may even see a black bear or two roaming around (no worries, they are not dangerous). The Cabin is located at about 1,500 feet overlooking the Shenandoah River, the town of Luray, and the "Blue Ridge Mountains." The view is a feast to the eyesight. But don't stop there. Visit the Luray Caverns, 6 minutes at the bottom of the hills. Hike to your heart's content on the Massanutten (Stephen) Trail a mile above or in one of the dozens other nearby paths. Bring a road bike and challenge yourself to the top of the mountain. Go horse back riding. Explore the Virginia wine country. Or just...relax. Welcome to a place where time has finally slowed down! Guest AccessOur guests will have complete access to the Cabin. You're welcome to use the newly renovated, small but complete kitchen. Help yourself to all silverware, plates and cooking utensils. Sleep in one of the two bedrooms or the futon in the living room, where you can see the view. Appreciate the also newly renovated small bathroom using reclaimed wood and creative rustic design. In short, this is your place, please treat it with comparable love and care. Interaction with GuestsI will make every effort to be physically present upon your arrival. I will attempt to answer any question you may have, and will try to provide you with instructions and advise if requested. After that, I will be available via text or phone in case you need anything, but you will have complete privacy during your stay. I live in Bethesda, MD, exactly 100 miles door to door. The NeighborhoodChances are, you will not see the neighbors. This cabin has easy access, yet it's extremely secluded. The town of Luray is about 6 miles from the Cabin. Your closest neighbor is probably some 200 yards, if they're there at all. Welcome to rural Virginia! Getting AroundThe only way to get here is with a private vehicle. If you're coming in the winter, I suggest you use an all-wheel drive, as the entrance is steep and could become slippery, specially if it snows. Other Things to NoteQ & A: Q: Why do you rent this place? A: We use it one month per year at most. Why keep this jewel to ourselves? Please enjoy it as if it's your place as well. Q: Why is there no Internet? A: I work in the high-tech sector. I am connected 24/7. I wanted a place where time stands still, be close to nature, and could truly get away from it all. We want to share not only the place, but the experience as well. Q: What if I need something from you? A: Just send me a text message or give me a ring. You'll get my number after your booking is confirmed. Q: The fridge is very small, will we starve to death? A: Hey, no drama here. Yes, the fridge is small, but there is also an ice cooler you may use. Simply bring your own ice and please drain it before leaving. That should keep you alive for a bit longer :-) Q: Should I bring sheets and towels? A: No worries. We will provide bedding and towels, blankets, soap, shampoo and toilet paper. If you need anything else, please let me know and I will do anything in my power to have it ready before your arrival. Q: I love this place, can I extend my stay? A: If available, sure, knock yourself out. Simply get to an internet cafe or use your smart phone and book again. But please contact me beforehand out of courtesy. Q: Great decoration, what style is it? A: Shaker style. From wikipedia, "Shaker furniture is a distinctive style of furniture developed by the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, commonly known as Shakers, a religious sect that had guiding principles of simplicity, utility and honesty. Their beliefs were reflected in the well-made furniture of minimalist designs." We are not shakers, but we are guided by the same principles. Q. What's the sleeping situation? A. Well, you're welcome to sleep any way you'd like :-) But to be more specific, there are two bedrooms, both with full-size beds. One bedroom has a platform bed with a memory foam mattress, and the other one a Murphy bed with a memory foam topper. There is a third full-size futon located next to the stove in the living room. If you're not into futons, there is also a comfy inflatable full-size bed found in the closet where the Murphy bed is. Please take your pick. Q. There are no bathroom faucets! A. Mmm, that wasn't a question, but yes they're there. These faucets and vanity were a DIY project of my own design using copper piping and shut-off valves and reclaimed wood. Just turn the valves one quarter of the way counterclockwise to open the water supply. Pretty cool, hugh? Q. Is the Cabin self-sustainable? A. Not yet, but I'm working on it. With your booking contribution, I created a system to capture rain water to the cistern below (the mountain is dry and water is a precious commodity here), and eventually I will install solar panels on the roof. Currently, all waste water goes into a septic tank, so as soon as I implement the above steps, the Cabin will technically be able to be off-grid. Q. What other environmental measures have you implemented? A. In addition to capturing water from rain and eventually energy from the sun, I have renovated the bathroom and kitchen using reclaimed wood, some of it from a nearby old farm. The dish and body soaps and most house-cleaning products are environmentally-friendly to help natural decomposition of waste water in the septic system. The floor is made up of natural cork and wood, and the entire place was recently re-insulated to improve energy efficiency. If you'd like to know more about our eco-efforts, please contact me. Q. How is the house heated? The main source of heat is the wood stove. You'll be surprise how efficient this rustic appliance is. Depending on the temp, it may take a couple of hours to bring the thermometer up to your standard, so exercise a little patience. There is a heat-infused fan and a tea pot on top of the stove. The fan will propagate the heat efficiently and the tea pot (with water) will act as a natural humidifier, making you more comfortable. In addition, there is a wall heater in the kitchen (dial) and another one in the bathroom (switch) that you can control. Finally, a baseboard heater in the entrance hallway will keep the bedrooms (and water pipes) warm. In short, you'll be cozy!

The SpaceHi! We travel often for work and usually stay in other Airbnb rentals around the world. From these experiences, we bought and renovated the Farmhouse as a full-time vacation rental with all the little details we expect (and are often missing in other places). Basically, we created our dream Airbnb vacation stay. We are Airbnb SuperHosts and hope you'll read through our 5-star reviews to be confident in your booking. The Shenandoah Valley is our home and we love to share the undiscovered pleasures of the area. We have Mountain Ranges on either side of the Valley with a gorgeous River running through it. Our nightly price covers all local taxes, and accommodation of up to six guests. Kids are always welcome, and we're pet friendly (with prior approval). Just let us know who you're bringing. House: We have lovingly rehabbed this 1850s solid brick farmhouse and turned it into a modern home. The house is on a secluded 2 acres with plenty of trees and views. The remodeled farmhouse has been updated with all conveniences, including central AC, heat and high speed WiFi. This is not a rustic cabin, but some seriously awesome luxury. A great way to enjoy the outdoors. If you have any special needs, just ask. We live just ten minutes away. Bedrooms: The Farmhouse can sleep up to six people, but also perfect for a couple who want a quiet getaway. There are two bedrooms. The master suite has a king size bed with new pillow top mattress and flat screen TV. The guest bedroom has a twin convertible trundle bed (converts to a King) that comfortably sleeps two with storage. There's also a separate Writers Cabin with a queen bed that sleeps two, work desk, flat screen TV w/ Netflix, wifi, and A/C + Heat (need to use the house bathroom). We gladly provide all bed linens and pillows. Bathrooms: We have a full bath upstairs with an Americast soaking tub. Downstairs, there's a half bath powder room with washer/dryer. We provide soap, shampoo, towels, and washing detergent. Living room: We like to spread out on two couches and mid century recliner. There are plenty of board games, playing cards, novels, kids books and backlogs of magazines to read. Or hook your iPod up to the speakers and play music on the stereo. Kitchen: The kitchen is fully equipped with an eight person farm table and antique soapstone sink. You’ll have everything you need to cook a holiday meal, or just make coffee + toast and use the microwave for simple reheating. If you need anything we don’t have, we'll do our very best to accommodate. We provide a lot of "starter stuff" so guests don't have to over-buy for short stays (creamer, sugar, honey, coffee, condiments, cooking oil, charcoal, bug repellent, etc). Entertainment: The house and yard have high speed WiFi access. Lounge inside to check your email, or wander outside to research bugs and birds on Wikipedia. Both flat screens are hooked up to Apple TVs. You can watch unlimited shows and movies on our Netflix account, or sign in to any of your accounts to watch what you want (NFL, NHL, HBO, MLB, iTunes, Hulu, etc). BBQ: We custom designed this brick outdoor BBQ to double as a grill and fireplace. We love to have a meal on the Adirondack chairs while looking out over the hills and the friendly herd of cows next door. Sometimes the cows even come up to the fence to say hello. We always leave you with some starter charcoal, BBQ tools, and plenty of firewood. Night time star gazing: The BBQ grill then becomes a firepit so you can sit, watch the stars, and listen to the night sounds. Because our nearest neighbor is a quarter mile away, this is one if the best areas in Luray to see the Milky Way without light pollution. Outdoor Space: There are two acres of land so you’ll have plenty of room to play a game of soccer, toss the frisbee or play other games from our equipment box. Read a book at at any of our three shaded picnic tables. Explore the stream running along the property when the rain has come. Hang out in the hammock and watch the sun go down over the hill. There is also a covered area to park motorcycles. Neighborhood Lake: Lake Arrowhead is just a short walk down our quiet gravel road. Maintained by the town of Luray, you can pay a small fee to rent canoes, paddle boats, or enjoy the beach area with a lifeguard. If you have your own boat, you're welcome to put in (but no motors since this is the town's reservoir). There's also a trail that winds around the lake for a great hike. Luray Caverns: The Caverns are world famous since they were discovered over a century ago. The family who runs the Caverns have done a great job creating an inspiring, tasteful experience. It's a perfect place for an afternoon trip underground. There also plenty of other activities for kids like the giant maze and jungle gym. The Pioneer museum showcases demonstrations on how the first settlers in the area lived. Shenandoah National Park: We're only five miles from the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. We buy a day or week pass into the park to drive the 110-mile Skyline Drive. Or choose from the approximately 100 day hikes (of varying difficulty) that show off the Park's many waterfalls and vistas. We have booklets describing all the hikes. If you want to get 5 feet away from a deer, you'll be able to. Sometimes it's fun to eat at Skyland on top of the mountain where you can see the all of Page County below. Shenandoah River Outfitters: A short drive across Luray will bring you to the river outfitters where you can rent a canoe, kayak or tube for hanging out on the Shenandoah River. A must-do activity when the weather is nice. You'll never forget the times you spend on the river. If you have your own boat, you can use a number of public boat landings. Valley Health Fitness Center Gym- A quick 5 min drive to East Luray Shopping Center, the gym is a great place for a workout. $5 for a day pass will allow you to work out on all the machines, treadmills and use free and fixed weights. We love it there! Small Town USA Luray is a quintessential small American town with a number of restaurants from fancy dining to burger joints. There's also a coffee shop w/ wifi and the Main Street bakery making fresh goodies (ask for Chuck!) Every Saturday morning from May-September, there's a great Farmer's market in town to pick up local produce and meat from area farms. The indoor Willow Grove Farm Market sells locally produced food all year long. Several pizza places deliver to the farmhouse. For quick needs, there's Fairview Grocery just five minutes from the Farmhouse that has sandwiches, beer, wine, snacks, and homemade donuts (only on Saturdays, they are amazing). Treasure hunt at the antique stores, or grab outdoor gear at the outfitters. The 6-screen movie theater, a true local treasure, is open for matinee and evening screenings. Uncle Bucks is the sports bar where locals enjoy the game (stays open till 1am every night). Several groceries stores and Walmart will provide you with everything you need. There's also the Wisteria winery that's open most days to enjoy a local wine tasting. The Luray Zoo is on the edge of town and famous for rescuing exotic animals. Perfect for kids who want to safely get close to animals (like goats!). A newly renovated hospital w/ a 24-hour emergency room is just 10 minutes away. We provide a binder with maps of everything close by and are just a text away if you have questions. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house and grounds. Interaction with GuestsWe will meet guests to get them settled and answer any questions. The NeighborhoodQuiet, nearest neighbor is a quarter mile away. Short walk to Lake Arrowhead Recreation Area, 5 mile drive to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Getting AroundIt's rural America so there is no public transportation available. Driving is the best mode of transport. But we do have a growing biking culture so you'll definitely see serious and casual bikers along our country roads most weekends. If you live along the East Coast, you can take the Amtrak to Culpepper, VA and rent a car. We're about an hour from Culpepper along a beautiful mountain drive.
