TRAILS: Calvert Cliffs State Park is a natural area with certain hazards such as rocky and slippery trail surfaces, hazardous, unstable cliffs and venomous snakes. Remember, you are responsible for having the necessary skills, knowledge and equipment for a safe and environmentally sensitive visit. •Yellow Trail .7 mile - moderate This trail is forested by a variety of trees, including sweet gum, maple and hickory. As you pass through a loblolly pine plantation, you will begin hiking on a pipeline right-of-way. When you re-enter the woods, you will notice a vast array of holly trees and mountain laurel. •Blue Trail 1.1 miles - moderate This longer trail offers pleasant hiking in wooded terrain. Tree species observed are sassafras, oak and black locust, which are all typical of Southern Maryland. •Red Trail 1.8 miles - moderate The most popular trail in the park, the Red Trail offers direct access to the beach. Taking this route, located directly in front of the parking area and along the fishing pond, you will wind your way to a breathtaking view of the Chesapeake Bay. Following the trail is Grays Creek that eventually widens into a marshland. From the viewing platform you may see evidence of beavers. Continuing on the trail will bring you to the sandy beach where many fossils have been found. Be careful not to enter the restricted area, as the cliffs are unstable. This trail is open only to hikers. •White Trail 1.7 miles - moderate In the woodland section of the park, enjoy the serenity of this lengthy nature trail. Quiet hikers will often have the opportunity to observe wildlife such as whitetail deer and red fox. The unique steep slopes and narrow ridges, unusual within the Atlantic Coastal Plain, can be seen while on this trail. This trail winds through a hunting area so use caution by wearing blaze orange during hunting seasons. •Orange Trail 2.4 miles - moderate Enjoy the diverse landscape as you travel along the most northern trail in the park, which runs through the State Wildlands area. Stop for a rest on the Eagle Walk, a bridge constructed by Eagle Scouts. The bridge was built to gain access across the Thomas Creek Bog. Take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking views of the forest. This trail winds through a hunting area so use caution by wearing blaze orange during hunting seasons. •Silver Trail .7 mile - moderate Enter the forest just beyond a grassy knoll and become engulfed by white oak, birch and dogwood trees. The flat terrain of this short trail provides the perfect environment for bird watching. This trail winds through a hunting area so use caution by wearing blaze orange during hunting seasons. Hunting : Approximately 550 acres are open seasonally for hunting of upland game, turkey and deer. Upland game species include squirrels and rabbits. Turkey hunting is permitted only during the spring gobbler season. Deer hunting is permitted during the seasons established by DNR's Wildlife and Heritage Division. All hunters must register at the parking area. Hunting Guide on DNR's website at: (EMAIL HIDDEN) •Leave what you find. Allow others to discover these wonders. If you take fossils, take only what you can put in your hands. •Keep wildlife wild by not feeding them and keeping your distance. •Plan ahead and prepare. Always bring snacks, water, sunscreen, a first aid kit and trash bags. •Choose the right path by walking in single file on the designated trails. Shortcutting trails causes erosion, degrades natural beauty, replaces native plants with weeds and disturbs wildlife. •Leave No Trace, Inc. is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and inspiring outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. This home is perfect for your family vacation. It is and has been a memory maker for our family for many years. There's a special feeling of "home" as you walk in. The wide open views through all the glass captures you and draws you to the water. Step out on the deck from any room and take it in. The view to your left is the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay, straight across the Patuxent Naval Air Station, to your right is the Thomas Johnson Bridge that takes you to St. Mary's county. You are surrounded by the Patuxent River. One of the really unique conditions on the property is two micro-climates. The positioning of the house and the wrap around decking offer a "warmer" and a "cooler" temperature depending on the time of day. Enjoy the sunrise view AND the sunset over the bridge! Two pocket beaches for enjoying the sun or taking a dip. Large pier can accommodate a few people for fishing or crabbing. There's a sink for cleaning fish and seating while you are waiting for that big fish! Relaxing is easy in this beautiful and private setting. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and cared for by the Calvert Marine Museum, the Cove Point Lighthouse historic site has been lovinginly restored and repurpsed so that it can be enjoyed by all. The active lighthouse and keeper's home sit on a seven-acre point of land in one of the narrowest points of the Chesapeake Bay. It was established in 1828, making it the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in Maryland and the fifth-oldest lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay. Structures on the property include the 40-foot high brick light tower, dating to 1828, and a keeper's house, originally built in the same year, but enlarged in 1925 to make it a duplex for two keepers and their families. Other buildings on the site include the 1901 fog bell building, now used as a mini-theatre for public orientations, a small cottage built in 1950, and a brick building housing the Coast Guard's radio transmitter and emergency diesel generator, also dating from 1950. Proceeds from this beautiful rental site will support the Calvert Marine Museum and a lighthouse endowment set up for its continued care.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and cared for by the Calvert Marine Museum, the Cove Point Lighthouse Historic site has been lovingly restored and repurposed so that it can now be enjoyed by all. The active lighthouse and keeper’s home sit on a seven-acre point of land in one of the narrowest points of the Chesapeake Bay. It was established in 1828, making it the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in Maryland and the fifth-oldest existing lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay. Structures on the property include the 40-foot high brick light tower, dating to 1828, and a keeper’s house, originally built in the same year, but enlarged in 1925 to make it a duplex for two keepers and their families. Other buildings on the site include the 1901 fog bell building, now used as a mini-theatre for public orientations, a two-bedroom cottage built in 1950, and a brick building housing the Coast Guard’s radio transmitter and emergency diesel generator, also dating from 1950. The 2 ½ story keeper’s duplex has been renovated from top to bottom. The site has a total of six bedrooms, four full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, two washers and dryers, Wi-Fi, brand new custom kitchens, central heat and air, a screened porch, and all the modern comforts and conveniences of home. Visitors can rent the site for three, four, or seven day periods. Many of the home’s original features have been retained and restored, including hard pine floors, cast iron heaters, deep window sills, doors, moldings, and eyebrow windows. The interior is decorated with a mix of old and new and includes original artwork, pieces from museum archives, locally built furniture, as well as one of a kind kitchen tables made from the reclaimed wood of the dismantled Cedar Point Lighthouse and a local general store. The kitchen cabinets were handcrafted locally and the tile that was laid captures the character of a 1925 home. To add interest to the site, portions of the drywall have been removed to expose some of the features of the original 1 ½ story home, which were covered when it was enlarged in 1925. The grounds are completely fenced with a private entrance and direct access to the beach. The site is an idyllic place to slow down and enjoy uninterrupted time with your family and friends. Since this mixed-use lighthouse site is still a fully functioning site, in addition to being a vacation rental, it will continue to welcome the public during the summer season for tours of the grounds. Proceeds from this beautiful rental site will support the Calvert Marine Museum and a lighthouse endowment set up for its continued care.
