Guest AccessTotally separated and independent apartment access is available at all times. At most times, the kind and friendly hosts, live above in a separate apartment. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy and respectful of what our guests want, total privacy or advice on what is available to see and do in this area. Megan offers day hikes into the local hills or the Southern Alps which are only 1.5 hours drive away all topped off with a packed picnic lunch. Tim can offer tips on the local surf beach out front and the mountain bike trails close by.

The SpaceOur house is constructed inside and out of large Oregon (Douglas Fir) logs. Irregular sizes with knots and branches make this log house unique - the only one in Christchurch! The house has uninterrupted beautiful views from the port hills, across the Southern Alps and over the whole of Christchurch City. Located exclusively at the end of a lane, bordered by an expansive council reserve, and on an 8000m2 section, the house is very private. You will hear no noise from neighbours or traffic. The house is only 9km from the Central City, 6kms in the opposite direction to Sumner beach, and only 22kms from Christchurch Airport. Closeby are many restaurants and bars, a supermarket and several fantastic walkways all within a few minutes drive from the house. The house itself offers many social areas including TV and lounge room with two bifold doors opening up to two outdoor areas with beautiful views of the Heathcote Valley. An occasional room with seating, and fire, a sunroom with floor to ceiling glass windows and incredible views of the Southern Alps and Christchurch City. Large entertainers kitchen with gas cooking. These rooms are all located at ground level, along with a guest toilet, and full size laundry for the guests to use. Upstairs offers, three spacious guest rooms all with spectacular views. One guest room with queen bed contains a TV and balcony and overlooks the city. The second room is very large and contains two king single beds, a sofa and huge balcony. The third room has views of the heathcote valley and a king size bed. These three bedrooms share a full size bathroom with huge bathtub and separate toilet on the upstairs level. There is also a sponge floor mattress suitable for a child if you need an additional bed depending on how many rooms you book. You have the option of booking one room, or selecting 3 or more guests to book a second bedroom of your choice. For larger parties, and to book the third room, please find our listing for the entire house and a more cost effective booking for groups. When only booking one room there is a possibility another guest may book another room in which case the bathroom would be shared. If you prefer to have the house to yourselves, please let us know. A short drive to the beach suburb of sumner. Getting AroundWe are close to Bus 180 (5-10 min walk up and down hill). This will take you all the way to Hornby via riccarton mall. At the bottom of the hill is The purple line (15 min walk). This takes you to the airport or sumner in the other direction. It also stops in the middle of town. It's possible to use bus 180 to get up and down the hill and connect with the purple line. The bus to the port town of Lyttleton is also at the bottom of the hill - no 535. It also takes you to Eastgate mall. We do recommend travelling by car to make the most of your stay. It is possible to book with us a private airport collection between 8.30am and 10pm for $50NZ (a taxi for the 45min - 1 hour journey is usually $85 - $100NZ) please ask after making your reservation with us.

The SpaceOur Apartment Our fully self-contained unit is part of the ground floor of our home. It has its own entrance, and includes kitchen and ensuite, to which we can offer all the service and friendly, personal hospitality of any homestay. The apartment is spacious and modern with a very comfortable queen bed and quality linen supplied. The ensuite has both a bath and shower and is easily heated. The kitchen is set up so that you can cook your own meals on a stove top or we can help you choose local cafes and restaurants for your evening meal if you wish to eat out. Park outside or walk 5 minutes to metro bus service – airport /Sumner route. A continental breakfast of cereals, fruit, yoghurt and toast with jams is (website hidden), stereo, IPoD dock and wireless internet access are included. Laundry can be accessed on request. Following our own travel experiences we provide an ‘honesty box’ bar – with a limited range of NZ wines and beers. There is a small library of NZ books for your reading enjoyment. The SpaceThis spacious new home with sea views is situated in a quiet suburb within walking distance of the beach. The guest room with queen bed has its own entrance off the deck. The kitchen is well equipped (induction cook top) if you want to cook your own meals, (help yourself to fresh herbs from the garden), or we can help you choose from the many local cafes and restaurants if you wish to eat out. The large luxurious bathroom has a bath, shower and toilet separated by dividing walls, and sensor lighting. The laundry is available should you need it. Guest AccessWhole house, except our bedroom. Interaction with GuestsWe will greet you when possible and make you feel at home. We am fine interacting as much or as little as is naturally warranted. We feel that since you are on holiday, it's your call. We are busy with my own things, but always willing to answer questions and help when we can and are needed. The NeighborhoodThe neighbourhood is tranquil and safe. It is a 30-40 minute drive from the airport and 15 minutes from the CBD. There are many walks around the hills and coastal region of the area. We can help you choose depending on your fitness levels! For the twitchers, many birds are to be spotted in the Estuary region. Excellent swimming beaches including Taylors Mistake and Sumner within 5 and 10 minutes away. Lyttelton Harbour and The Gondola are also within close proximity. Sumner beach is 10 minutes walk. There is a boutique cinema at Sumner and several restaurants. In Redcliffs there is a great fish and chips shop, a Thai takeaway and a Chinese restaurant. Getting AroundPark off the street if you are driving. The metro bus service – airport /Sumner route (Purple Line) stops at the Redcliffs village. I will help with directions. The NeighborhoodQuiet residential neighbourhood in a lovely village 25min from the city centre. The beach is safe and offers great surfing and paddleboarding. These can be rented in the village and our friend James offers paddleboarding lessons. We are on the edge of Banks Peninsular with some lovely hill walks from short to long. Getting AroundLocal bus 5min walk away. We have 2 bikes available to explore the area. Easy access from the airport on the Sumner bus purple line to Sumner village where we will meet you. The bus takes about 1 hr and will take you through the city. Sumner is the end of the line. By car we are 40mins from the airport. We recommend a rental car as being beneficial. Other Things to NoteNot suitable for children under 3 due to internal stairs and steep section but older children/families welcome. We do also have a rollaway bed suitable for a younger child. Please advise if you are bringing children so that we can be prepared even if you are bringing a portable cot.

Regular ferry service to Diamond Harbour. Car access via Lyttelton Tunnel to Christchurch. Alternatively the scenic way via Governor's Bay, over the Port Hills.

Other Things to NoteMy house is the genuine Christchurch experience. There are some cracks from the earthquake and I am still waiting for my insurance company to carry out repairs.

The bus to the port town of Lyttleton is also at the bottom of the hill - no 28. We do recommend travelling by car to make the most of your stay. It is possible to book with us a private airport collection between 8.30am and 10pm for $50NZ (a taxi for the 45min - 1 hour journey is usually $85 - $100NZ) please ask after making your reservation with us.

It's local live music culture, arts and Saturday Farmers Market make this village one of New Zealand's most favoured secret locations. There is a very well stocked local store with other local stores, like the deli and Christchurch's best organic produce store (but a bit pricey). Getting AroundThere are regular buses to and from the City and Village. Water taxis to take one to Diamond Harbour or Quail Island and taxis from the airport will cost around $75-80 NZD. Walking into the Village is only 10 minutes. Once you're in Lyttelton you would not really need a car, but a bus will take you to and from Christchurch CBD. Other Things to NoteThe cottage sits on the Bridal Path walkway, so it's an easy head-start up the hill onto the Port Hills and beyond. The roads around Lyttelton are steep and at times challenging when wet, it is advised to plan your trip to arrive during daylight hours. Venturing in after dark can be a challenge for visitors.

Beautiful beaches, surfing, the Gondola, good restaurants, bars, shops, scenic walking and mountain bike routes are all within 10 minutes drive. The airport is a convenient 30 minute drive away. Getting AroundA car is the easiest way too get around Christchurch but there are bus options too. Every 10 to 15 minutes there is a direct bus from the airport via the city centre which takes 50 minutes to reach the bus stop on Mt Pleasant Rd (1 mile from our house). The city centre is 20 minutes away by bus from this stop. Depending on your arrival time we pick you up from Mt Pleasant Road bus stop, or you could walk up the hill to our house from there. Alternatively the airport bus also stops at Ferrymead (3km from our house) and from there you can get a bus to Soleares Avenue which stops opposite our house every 30 minutes. This is the perfect place to enjoy a drink and watch the sun set. you won't want to leave! A cosy dining and living area is well-stocked with music, books, a TV, DVDs, and tourist information showcasing what Christchurch and New Zealand have to offer. A futon in the lounge converts to a bed for a 5th person if required. There is no cot available. The kitchenette is equipped with a kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave and there is also a gas BBQ in the courtyard exclusively for the use of guests; You are also welcome to use the upstairs kitchen and dishwasher. Stunning panoramic views of the city, sea and mountains are also to be had from the house and walking tracks of the McCormack Bay reserve (800 metres away from our house) and the John Bittern Reserve (1.5 km away). A further 10 minutes walk will take you to the Time Tunnel Experience and the Crater Rim walkway, where you can look into the heart of the ancient volcano that now forms Lyttleton harbour. The views over Banks Peninsula from here are breath-taking. Be sure to stop for a coffee at the Gondola café. Beautiful beaches, surfing, good restaurants, bars, shops, scenic walking and mountain bike routes are all within 5 minutes drive. The airport is a convenient 30 minute drive away. Sumner seaside resort is 5 minutes drive away. Getting AroundThe airport is a 30 minute drive from our house in normal traffic but there are bus options too. The Purple Line Buses leave the airport every 30 minutes and take approximately 1 hour to reach the bus stop on Mt Pleasant Rd (1 mile or a 20 minute uphill walk to our house). Depending on your arrival time, we may be able to pick you up from the bus stop. Ask us about this when you book. The city centre is 20 minutes away by bus from this stop. Alternatively, it is possible to travel directly to and from the airport to the bus stop outside our house on the P-Line and 140 bus routes, changing at the Ferrymead shops. The SpaceOur house is constructed inside and out of large Oregon (Douglas Fir) logs. Irregular sizes with knots and branches make this log house unique - the only one in Christchurch! Upon arriving at our property, you will be welcomed with beautiful views from the port hills, across the Southern Alps and over the whole of Christchurch City. Located exclusively at the end of a lane, bordered by an expansive council reserve, and on an 8000m2 section, the house is very private. You will hear no noise from neighbours or traffic. The area itself is only 9km from the Central City, 6kms in the opposite direction to Sumner beach, and only 22kms from Christchurch Airport. Closeby are many restaurants and bars, a supermarket and several fantastic walkways all within a few minutes drive from the house. The house itself offers many social areas including TV and lounge room with two bifold doors opening up to two outdoor areas with beautiful views of the Heathcote Valley. An occasional room with seating, and fire, a sunroom with floor to ceiling glass windows and incredible views of the Southern Alps and Christchurch City. Large kitchen with gas cooking. These rooms are all located at ground level, along with a guest toilet, and full size laundry for the guests to use. Upstairs offers, three spacious guest rooms with spectacular views. The master guest room contains a TV and balcony. These three bedrooms share a full size bathroom with huge bathtub and separate toilet on the upstairs level. There is a king bed in one room, a Queen bed and two king singles in the other rooms, and also a sponge floor mattress suitable for a child if you need a fifth bed. This mattress can go on the floor in one of the bedrooms, or outside in the study nook located in the hallway outside the bedrooms. The room with the king single beds is very large with a huge balcony and also contains a lounge suite and desk. We may or may not be home during your stay. Our room Is located downstairs. The guest area is upstairs. We share the dining kitchen and lounge with you although we are often not home. At your request we will be available to assist with any of your requirements. We will come to welcome you upon your arrival in the evenings and weekends if we are home, otherwise we will leave instructions on how to enter the property. The SpaceA huge and dramatic space with expansive sea/port views, three bedrooms, two luxurious bathrooms, a huge commercial scale kitchen, sunny garden, private terrace and all of Lyttelton and the Banks Peninsula at your doorstep. Recently rebuilt after the 2011 earthquakes, this building is like nothing else. The views are breathtaking, the huge timber trusses salvaged and re-used along with the massive Jarrah kitchen made from salvaged timber. This build started its life as a ship chandlery and coolstore, has been shipping offices and the Rugby Clubrooms. Today it is our home and the place of our business, Kingswood Skis. "The Rugby Club" as we still call it, is in the heart of Lyttelton township, with the sea out the front and the bars, cafes and restaurants of this thriving little village out the back. The house is only available when we are away, so you'll have complete privacy. Someone will be available to answer questions, replace linens or help in any way. Lyttelton is a special place, not just because of the ever-changing view of the working port, but because of the vibrant community that you'll notice immediately. There is always something happening here. There are great restaurants, lots of live music and the city and Banks Peninsula in easy reach. There are swimming beaches a short stroll away and endless stunning walks in the surrounding hills. Surf beaches are just through the tunnel and the hills and beach of the Banks Peninsula will easily fill your days with fun and exploration. A bus to Christchurch central city leaves out the front door every 15 minutes. There is a ferry across the road to Diamond Harbour. Christchurch (with International Airport) is only 20 minutes through the tunnel by car and the whole of the South Island within reach beyond. Getting AroundThe no 28 bus leaves from right outside to the central city every 15 minutes. A Ferry to Diamond Harbour leaves every hour. Christchurch city (with International airport) is only 20 minutes through the tunnel.

The SpaceThe retreat is remote, surrounded by a unique landscape which would be a photographer's dream. Less than an hour from Akaroa, and less than two hours from Christchurch. The access takes you through a farm with magnificient views of the sea. The house is modern and has a relaxing ambiance. It is off-the-grid, so solar panels provide power, relying on natural resources. The house uses wood for warmth and gas for hot water heating. The food is incredible; all meals are locally sourced and seasonal. I can cater for special dietary requirements. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included in the price. Happy to entertain as well as leave you to enjoy a glass of wine whilst looking at the view. Guest AccessYou will have a choice of four different walks, varying from 15 minutes to 3 hours, through the bush, or over the farm to the beach. These are all easy on farm tracks. The situation is conducive to reading, painting or writing. You can also play with clay in my studio or carve something from Oamaru stone (soft lime stone). The sheep enjoy having extra nuts, so feeding them is something you can experience. Interaction with GuestsI can leave you in peace to relax or show you some of the walks, or head you in the right direction with a map. Otherwise, I would retreat into my studio and leave you alone. The NeighborhoodThe house is sitting in a natural landscape, with sheep grazing around it. The nearest house is 20 minutes drive away. Location: Latitude 43.38 South, Longitude 172.51 East. Internal stairs lead down to the guest rooms. Parking is free for guests. Two car park spaces are available on the sloped driveway or a flat layby adjacent to the house can also be used. The downstairs flat is for the private use of guests, so you can enjoy your own space, but if you are also welcome to make use of the chef's kitchen upstairs or join us in the upstairs area. You are also welcome to enjoy the rambling orchard garden, with seats strategically positioned to take in the views. We may come and go from the property during the day or are contactable by cell phone, text or email, if there is anything we can help you with. The NeighborhoodMount Pleasant is a safe and peaceful hillside suburb which boasts exceptional sea and mountain views and easy access to the city center (15 minutes drive). Beautiful beaches, surfing, the Gondola, good restaurants, bars, shops, scenic walking and mountain bike routes are all within 10 minutes drive. The airport is a convenient 30 minute drive away. Getting AroundA car is the easiest way too get around Christchurch but there are bus options too. Every 10 to 15 minutes there is a direct bus from the airport via the city centre which takes 50 minutes to reach the bus stop on Mt Pleasant Rd (1 mile from our house). The city centre is 20 minutes away by bus from this stop. Depending on your arrival time we can pick you up from Mt Pleasant Road bus stop, or you could walk up the hill to our house from there. Alternatively the airport bus also stops at Ferrymead (3km from our house) and from there you can get a bus to Soleares Avenue which stops opposite our house every 30 minutes. Contact Metro Bus for more details on the buses. I have up-to-date bus maps and timetables for guests. We also have one spare road-bike available for guest use.
