Early pioneers brought sugar cane to the region and began an industry that has become one of Australia's largest. Within a decade of settlement, Mackay became Queensland's largest sugar producing area and still is! Mackay grew with its industries. As sugar boomed so did the frontier town. The climate and environment of the Mackay area soon attracted families and today more than 75,000 people live in Mackay. More and more "Southerners" are drawn by the promise of sunshine, warmth and relaxed family living. Mackay's close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and some of the world's most prized rainforests make it a holiday destination for many thousands of visitors. The SpaceComfortable accommodation in a spectacular, remote location for a tranquil get away. Guest AccessBeautiful quiet beaches, kayak, diving and snorkelling, fishing. Interaction with GuestsComplete privacy Getting AroundGolf cart available free of charge with the house. Other Things to NoteAccess to Keswick Island is via plane from Mackay using Island Air or charter boat from Mackay Harbour with Megaforce Charters. Provisions (ALL groceries, snacks and drinks) must be brought from mainland as there is NO shop on the island. If shopping in advance of your arrival in Mackay (via Coles Online Click and Collect), the order needs to be placed with Coles Online no less than 4 days prior and available for collection at least 2 hours prior to departure to the island. IGA The Avenue (((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) is very helpful for all food needs. You can call the store in advance of sending an email order through. Unfortunately IGA don't have the same comprehensive website that Coles do, but they will get everything together (including seafood etc). The groceries will be packed in reusable bags or broccoli boxes for the trip over (the boxes are hotly sought after on the island). You need to speak with Brian or Kirsty and let them know you are coming to Keswick Island and arrange for their groceries to be delivered to Megaforce about an hour and half prior to departure.
