Visitors will notice that the daily life on Olango Island has not changed significantly the last few generations. Tourists, especially foreigners, will therefore have an exotic and educational experience visiting the island. The possibility to get to know some of the locals, and see how they live, is an educational experience you seldom have the opportunity to in most tourist places. That's why we encourage our guests to take a walk in the village. The island consists of several small villages and have approximately 25 000 inhabitants. They get most of their income from fishing and local craftsmanship. They also harvest sponges and starfishes for industrial purposes. In addition they sell trinkets, dried starfishes and shell to tourists that visit Olango Island and other islands nearby. Moneywise they often have nothing to spare, but as most Philippinos they take the things as they come and visitors are always welcome to visit them. Most of the inhabitants live in simple cottages made of nipa palm, bamboo and corrugated steel plates on the roof, a building tradition in the Philippines .
Also the famous Olango Island wildlife sanctuary is just a 10 min walk away. There is also a fish sanctuary for snorkelling and fish feeding just outside the property. To get here you can either walk for 5 min via a 450 m long boardwalk or go by boat
As a consequence of our experience with contributions to the local society, we plan to use parts of the profit to support cultural and educational activities. This will be a benefit for both the school and the local inhabitants. By now we are supporting the local kindergarten/pre-school and some local sports arrangements. The development of the project will also give positive effects, by hiring locals both during the construction period, and to run the project. This will improve their income and make their life a bit easier. Getting AroundHow to get there

- Do we need to bring cash to spend on the island?
Expenses used at Sagastrand like in the restaurant, pick-up at the airport and other activities arranged by Sagastrand can be paid with credit card at the resort. There is no ATM on the island, so some cash is necessary for expenses outside the resort.
- Can we buy our own food and other shopping facilities on the island?
Yes, you can buy the basic food on the island, but for diverse food, you need to buy this in the city. We can however help you with this if you send us a shopping list prior to your arrival. We also have a restaurant where you can buy meals. An advice is to bring your own sun lotion as this is not available on the island and the only available in the city is sun block.
- Is it possible to hire a house helper/maid during our stay?
Yes, you can hire a helper for cooking, shopping, looking after the children, etc for PHP 1000 for one week.
