The SpaceOur home is a classic shingle-style beach house with tons of light, plenty of space, comfortable and classic furnishings and loaded with modern conveniences. The best part, however, is the location - just three houses from the water in a quiet safe neighborhood on a dead end road. Our beach is private and for the residents of our neighborhood, but since it is rarely occupied, you will likely have your very own private beach experience! The CT shoreline is full of beach alternatives, should you want variety; Hammonasset Park is a short stroll away. There is even a hiking/biking trail at the end of our street that leads to the Park if you are looking for more vigorous activity. Other activities popular to the region include hiking, biking (2 included), kayaking (3 included), paddle boarding, fishing, bird watching, just to name a few. Guest AccessThe house itself has three bedrooms and an open loft, all fully furnished with all necessary linens. The master is a large room with water views, a new and super comfortable king sized bed, HDTV with cable access and a DVD player. On the same level are two additional bedrooms making this a perfect family or large group get away – one is outfitted with a full bed, the second with two twin beds. The loft space can be used as an additional sleeping space. The kitchen is modern and comfortable for a group to gather and offers a breakfast bar for additional space. It is fully furnished and the stainless appliances are new. In the living room you will find space to relax. On cooler evenings, there is even a gas fireplace for your comfort. This is my personal favorite room to put my feet up and relax with the Sunday paper over coffee or to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. Lastly on the main floor is a den with lots of light and French doors leading to the large deck where you will find a gas grill and outdoor furniture for dining al-fresco on a nice summer night. For the older kids in your group, there is a “teen room” on the lower level with a Wii, HDTV, and streaming video. Interaction with GuestsI'm available 24 hours a day by phone or text. My permanent residence is less than a mile away, so I can be on site on short notice. The NeighborhoodMadison is a quaint New England town on the Long Island Sound which attracts a sophisticated mix of residents and visitors from all over the world. People are drawn to the town by its traditional New England feel coupled with breathtaking waterfront vistas. While downtown Madison is full of quaint shops and fine dining, nearby towns offer several alternatives - I’d be happy to be your guide to the shoreline while at the house! During the summer season, special events are plentiful and the quaint church greens and downtown areas come alive with concerts and other attractions. Additionally, Madison’s own R.J.Julia bookstore hosts an ongoing lecture series by world class authors while next door, in Branford, the Thimble Island Cruises take visitors past the summer cottages of the rich and famous, both past and present. Madison is less than two hours from NYC and just slightly further from Boston. It is an ideal place to explore the beaches, shopping, fine dining, endless activities, in addition to the history of the CT shoreline. At our house, you can do it all! Please note our home is intended as a family home, large parties over 6 guests will be charged an additional $100 per additional guest per week.

Looking for a getaway this autumn? Need extra room for guests during the holidays? Our classic Connecticut beach house will take you back to a simpler time when days had an unhurried quality and people had time for one another. In fact, we bet you'll feel tempted to put technology on hold to enjoy spending time with your nearest and dearest browsing the great selection of books and gifts at R.J. Julia booksellers, catching a great movie at the Madison Art Cinemas, walking the Greenline trail to Hammonasset or exploring the many beautiful shoreline towns nearby that look their best in autumn tints. About our house: we know that comfort and facilities are as important as old fashion charm, so of course we have Wi-Fi internet and basic cable t.v. The house is attractively furnished with a fully equipped kitchen. There is a large wrap-around veranda, plus screened-in porch and small 'breakfast' balcony with sea views off master bedroom. The finished attic doubles as a playroom/office (if you must work!) or room for extra overnight guests. The garage has parking for two cars and room for two more in front of garage. Use of bikes. Outdoor shower. Large corner lot with ample yard. In other seasons, our house is still a lovely place to stay. We have just replaced the wood burning fireplace with a gas fireplace which is much easier to use and keeps the downstairs really cosy. The Madison Beach Hotel is open year round, as is Christy's on the next block. Winter walks on the beach are one of our favorite pastimes as our bike rides down Middle Beach Road to admire the changing colors of the marshes and the great variety of wildlife at Hammonasset State Park, which has free admission after Labor Day. Located one house back from the beach with views of Long Island Sound, close to the Madison Beach Hotel, which offers cocktails overlooking the sea and is open for lunch and dinner. In the summer, you may walk up the beach or along the road to the Madison Surf Club that has a large playground, snack bar and many family-oriented activities. A good spot for more casual dining is 'Christy's' about a block away. They are famous for their pancakes and have established quite a following in town. Walk or bike into town, only a mile away. Madison has much to offer including: beautiful beaches, many restaurants, independent bookstore (with book signings and other events), art cinema and numerous one-of-a-kind shops. Ten minutes from outlet stores, convenient for Shoreline East Train, with connection to Grand Central Station, New York. Close to picturesque seaside towns of Stony Creek and Mystic Seaport. Our sweet, vintage 1946 cottage is part of a small, tree-filled enclave of cottages that began as 'Walter's Cottages', was later an artists' colony, and is now called 'Seabreeze'. The cottage offers visitors a unique opportunity to 'go back' to a slower paced time, intentionally unplug from the internet, and reconnect with some of the rest of what modern life has to offer. We call the cottage 'Teach na Shoals', which is Scots-Gaelic for 'Place of the Shoals'. There is a six night minimum stay; we regret that we cannot accommodate travelers who are looking to book a shorter stay than this. You'll be welcomed to the cottage by the sight of the hydrangea bushes and the sound of the white shoal driveway. The cottage has been lovingly decorated in the style and colors of the era in which it was built. Kitchen, living room, and eating area are all one space, with a beautiful vaulted ceiling of cedar and skylights. A drop leaf 'kitchen table' seats four. The bedroom has a full size bed, dresser, and closet. An open loft above the main room offers sleeping space for up to two more people who are old enough and up for climbing the ladder! An air conditioner in the loft and ceiling fans in the main room and bedroom cool us off on the hottest days of Summer. The bathroom has a sink, toilet, and shower, and of course there's also an outdoor shower out back! The sunny, enclosed front porch is the perfect place for coffee in the morning, listening to crickets in the evening, and birdsong and reading anytime. Our back patio has a table for six and a Weber charcoal grill; it faces a large, lightly wooded area. There's also a comfy hammock in the back, beckoning you to relax. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO TV OR WIFI SERVICE IN THE COTTAGE...we love it that way, as do our guests, but not everyone looking for a rental cottage does. Bring your laptop and enjoy our DVDs- or your own- if you want a movie night after a day at the beach! The cottage is equipped with a portable Bluetooth audio system to hook you up to pandora or other sites, for inside or outside listening. The entrance to Hammonasset State Park is .3 miles from the cottage. Hammonasset has three different beaches to choose from, walking trails, a nature center, and more. Several other nearby town beaches are also open to the public. Enjoy all that beach time offers: swimming, sunning, shelling, bird watching, building sandcastles. In the immediate area you can also enjoy kayaking, canoeing, boating, paddle boarding, fishing, sailing, golfing, and many walking and biking trails. Madison's quaint town green, restaurants, and shops- including the wonderful and much celebrated R.J. Julia booksellers- are within two miles, as is Clinton Crossing's extensive outlet shopping. There are many restaurants nearby, from crab shacks, to various ethnic offerings, to high end al fresco dining with a seaside view. Mystic Aquarium and Seaport are a short drive away; and yet our little enclave is a serene place. It's our getaway spot, and we hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do.
