The SpaceThe space is best suited for parties of 4-6, but will accommodate a maximum of 8. Base rate is for parties of 4. Infants under 3 yrs. old are free. The rate for ambulatory children requiring their own bed is the same as for adults. 10% local and state taxes are included.
The Jarrell family Home Place was built at the turn of the last century. It is furnished primarily for no fuss comfort and relaxation. Perched on a knoll in Wolftown, quiet walks through pastures offer beautiful views of surrounding mountains in the daytime and a blanket of stars at night.
3 private bedrooms offer 2 king beds and 2 twin beds. Day bed and trundle are in the living room. One party books the entire house. Linens are provided.
A large fully equipped kitchen/dining area offers comfortable table seating for 6-8 and additional bar space for 4.
The living room offers ample space (7-8 guests) for lounging or gathering. DVD player and local TV broadcasting are available.
Additional lodging for 1-4 guests is available at our Brown Recluse Cabin located in the woods nearby and for 1-6 guests at the Garden Cottage just down the road (also listed on this site.)
A large yard and shelter offer a fire pit, gas grill, picnic table, chairs. It is a great spot for small groups; friends, family holidays, retreats, girls getaways, small wedding parties and reunions. There is ample parking.
Many of our guests visit Yoder's Market & delicatessen where they can pick up organic and bulk foods, fresh local meats, home made baked goods and more.
Most of our guests enjoy solitude, taking walks on the farm, lounging on the porch, roasting marsh mellows, hiking in nearby Shenandoah National Park, birding, stargazing, hunting in the nearby Rapidan Wildlife Management Area, golfing at the nearby Greene County Golf Course (BYO clubs), taking a dip in the Rapidan River, and spending an evening at the Early Mt. "Signals" are accessible, at the farm, and the neighborhood depending on topography. Verizon service works best. Most guests find GPS adequate for locating the Home Place.
Guests can arrive at their leisure after 2:00 p.m. We will make every attempt to be there to greet you and familiarize you with the house if you provide us with your ETA. Check out is noon, so guests have time to sleep in. The primary objective is relaxation, comfort, a total absence of pressure, even a sense of timelessness. Guest AccessThis is an authentic working subsistence farm, with all the trappings: working sheds, equipment, hay bales, chickens, cattle and a garden. Guests are invited to take walks through the fields and to the pond. Please consult us in advance.
NOW AVAILABLE: Planning a small wedding or reunion? We now offer a Civic/Dance hall nearby for parties up to 100 (Extra Fees Apply). Located in the the old Wolftown Schoolhouse which housed the Rapidan Hunt Club, this building has been a part of our local culture for over 60 years. Wedding or graduation parties, we offer accommodations for guests in 3 houses, for a maximum of 18 guests. Interaction with GuestsWe are only a text away, and we live in the neighborhood. The NeighborhoodShenandoah National Park's Jones Mt Trail is a 5 minute drive. Our central location between Charlottesville, Orange, Culpeper and Harrisonburg makes this an ideal for day trips to regional attractions and colleges. Montpelier, Monticello, and Ash Lawn, the homes for three early American Presidents are within 45 minutes by car. Several colleges, Massenutten skiing and water park, and a plethora of wineries, shops and farmers' markets also dot the countryside. Steve and Jean Case's Early Mountain Winery is 3.5 miles up the road. Madison boasts of at least 2 fine dining establishments with a full range of menus, and several "affordable" venues.
Guests can take a train from Culpeper to Washington, DC or drive in 2 hours. DC is a 2-hour drive, or guests who wish to take a day trip can drive 20 minutes to Culpeper and catch the train to Washington.
Situated near the Rapidan Wildlife Management area, check station, sporting goods supply, and processor makes it a perfect hunters' hostel during fall & winter. Hunters may or may not share the house with other hunting parties. Getting AroundIt is best to have your own wheels. Other Things to NoteIn addition to clean quarters, guests can expect sanitized kitchen and bath, garbage pick up, clean bed linens and towels, and a maintained lawn and yard.
Guests with severe allergies, please bring the appropriate medications and notify us in advance. We try to make allowances or refer you to a more favorable host. Please understand this is a working farm with plenty of allergens and we are not equipped to provide an allergen-free environment. We have had several guests with allergies who have suffered no ill affects. All first aid kits include Benedryl for emergencies.
