The SpaceThe room has a full-sized bed for up to two people and a closet. The bathroom is right across the hall and is shared with my cat, Sabrina. There are curtains in the hallway between the living room and the bedroom that I close at night to offer my guests some privacy. Please bear in mind that my home isn't new, having been built in 1957. It has its own charm and character that I hope you will appreciate as much as I do. I try my best to accommodate all of my guests' needs. I welcome long-term reservations, so just let me know what your requirements are. Good communication is essential between the host and the guests! Guest AccessThere is a TV in the living room that you can watch during your stay. I'm at home most of the time, and I do enjoy watching TV at night. I have wireless Internet access throughout the house. If you need a comfortable place to use your laptop, you can sit at the table in the kitchen. Interaction with GuestsI'm the owner of the house and will be here all the time. My bedroom is down in the basement, and I have my own bathroom down there. The price quoted includes a hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and ham. I love to cook and enjoy making breakfast for my guests! The NeighborhoodI live close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Shenandoah National Park is 35 miles away. If you take Route 231 from Madison to Sperryville, you will have a lovely drive before heading up the mountain. My house is situated on five acres, so there's plenty of room to walk around and enjoy nature. If you are sensitive to traffic noise, you may find my proximity to Route 29 undesirable. There is always traffic on the highway as this is a major route to Washington, D.C. However, it's very convenient when you pull out of my driveway and set off for your day's adventure! There are so many great places to visit in this area. Montpellier, the home of James Madison, is close by, and Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, is in the historic city of Charlottesville, located just 35 miles away on Route 29 South. For wine lovers, this area is full of vineyards, like the Prince Michel Winery half a mile from our house. Culpeper is just ten miles away and offers the historical charm of Davis Street with great restaurants like It's About Thyme and Foti's. The train station at the end of Davis Street is still open for business with Amtrak trains stopping for passengers who want to go to New York City. Getting AroundThere's no public transportation in our neighborhood. My house is right on Route 29, so it's easy to find. If you don't have a car, I can provide you with transportation at an additional cost. Dulles Airport is an hour and a half from my house, and there's a train station in Culpeper, which is 11 miles away. Charlottesville is 35 miles away on Route 29 South. Other Things to NoteMy mother passed away in February 2016. She loved meeting our Airbnb guests and was able to remember all of their names from the beginning, which is something I couldn't do! Her grave is right here on my property and is marked by a white cross. Now that she's gone, it's just me and Sabrina, my Persian cat, living here. There are also two outdoor cats here who hang out on the porch. They will greet you as soon as you arrive! If you like cats and a relaxed atmosphere, you'll be right at home here!

The SpaceOur guesthouse is perfect for that weekend getaway out of the city! Between hiking (Old Rag Mountain, Skyline Drive, White Oak) fall festivals (Apple Harvest Festival and Blue Grass Festival) at Graves Mountain Lodge, Wineries (Early Mountain, Prince Michelle, DuCard, Sweely) and a BRAND NEW BREWERY (coming soon: Bald Top)- there is plenty to do! We highly recommend the farmers markets on Saturdays and relaxing by our pool during the summer season. We have a small pond on the property- we aren't sure if there are fish but we know there is a snapping turtle! It is a little ways from the guesthouse (we can drive you there on the gator). We also love our beautiful mountain views from the top of the driveway. About us: My husband and I live next door with our son, Ryker. The guesthouse connects through a breezeway. We can be as involved or uninvolved as you prefer during your visit. About the house: Our guesthouse has a very country cottage vibe. The two bedrooms are located upstairs with a full bath. Downstairs you will find a kitchenette and a large living room with a rock fireplace. We have a TV and a PlayStation to play DVDs. The internet comes from our house and can be spotty- but our guests have said they logged on from their rooms. We are working on getting a repeater so our guests will eventually be able to watch tv and Netflix, Hulu. The appliances in the house are not new- but they are in working condition. There is weightlifting equipment in the garage along with a washer and dryer. We do allow pets on an approval basis- we have a 7 year old boxer but he will be in our house unless our pets become friends. Our property is set up to potentially allow for horses. We can also always set you up with a horseback riding tour (rates change seasonally). We have a courtyard directly out of the back door which connects to our home- feel free to use the grill! There is a 30,000 gallon in-ground chlorinated pool that has child proof gates. We have 8 commercial pool chairs, plenty of floats and a speaker system you can Bluetooth your phone to with music. Upon request we can set up a badminton net (warning: my husband is competitive and may try to challenge you to a game!) if there is anything else that you need we are steps away so don't hesitate to ask! Weddings: We do not permit receptions indoors and insist on tent rentals for the field or alternative reception sites. We have our own wedding coordinator that we require specifically for our property. Our guest house and our main house are available for rent for the bridal party over the entire weekend. The two houses are great for splitting up the bride and groom until the ceremony. Please message me for more details! Guest AccessOur guests will have access to our property, pool and Internet. The first room upstairs to the left has a queen bed, the second room to the right has a full bed (antique rope bed). We have an air mattress we can also set up in the living room if needed. The kitchenette has a stove, mini fridge, microwave, dishes/utensils and sink. Our washer and dryer are also available in the garage as well as our gym equipment. The SpaceOur property is at the end of a quiet country road near the historic town of Madison. The carriage house studio apartment is clean, private and well appointed (full kitchen/bath/laundry). Our unique setting on a grassy sloped hill, surrounded by woods, next to a hidden, bubbling brook, makes you feel far away from the hustle and bustle. Bring your (well behaved) dogs and let them run! Bed: The black sofa is a double size futon but we also have a self-inflating queen air-mattress that is very comfortable as an option. It just a matter of quick setup in the room. The kitchen island moves over and it fits in the middle. There are linens provided for either. Guest AccessThe property has everything from a pool and connected hot tub (seasonally May through October) to quiet spots by the creek. The fire pit is great as the evenings cool to sit around with a drink. We generally keep the farmhouse as private space (and respect yours as the same) but invite you to spend time on the front porch for a coffee or drink. A private grill is available for use at the deck above the pool. Locally, we are only 2 miles from downtown Madison. Though not too bustling, there are a few decent restaurants in Madison including the mountaineer cafe (Diner - breakfast/lunch), Madison inn (highly recommended dinner), pig n steak (BBQ - lunch, dinner) and pie in the sky (pizza). Just a few more miles south is the world famous Yoders (a must see) and further down Rt 29 is The Bavarian Chef, a German favorite. And of course a McDonald's. Its just a short distance from the house (~3 miles) and just south of Madison on Rt 29 to a grocery store (Food Lion) and liquor store. And the 7-eleven is just out on Rt 29 to the left. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the adjacent farmhouse and are available to assist with making your stay enjoyable. We love getting to know guests and often meet up by the fire pit for some smores and mulled wine but respect those that want a more private experience. The NeighborhoodLess than 30 min to Old Rag Mtn, White Oak Canyon and Skyline drive! Make this your home base to explore. Getting AroundWe are less than 40 min from Charlottesville, 20 min from Culpeper, and mile off Route 29.
