The SpaceThis is a basement apartment intended to give people visiting Manhattan or relocating a safe, furnished, and comfortable place to stay without the high costs of a hotel. There is a main bedroom with a high-end queen-sized bed. The second sleeping space is outfitted with a small desk and full-sized bed. The kitchen has all the amenities someone might need to whip up a meal. Refrigerator, oven/stove, microwave, cookware, coffee maker, etc... The main living space has a couch and SleepSac that is perfect for reading. You can watch Netflix and other available channels from the Roku on the flatscreen television. There is also a wood-burning stove for those who feel like cozying up to a fire. The bathroom is small and clean with a subway-tiled shower and towels provided. There is a washer/dryer in the unit that is shared with upstairs tenants, though VERY infrequent. Guest AccessFeel free to make yourself at home. *MAKE SURE YOU READ THE HOUSE MANUAL AFTER YOU BOOK FOR CHECK-IN INFORMATION AND OTHER INFORMATION ON THE HOUSE. IF YOU DONT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, I CANT GUARANTEE YOU WONT BE LOCKED OUT OR THE SPACE WONT BE READY FOR YOU.* If you find yourself thinking, "hey this will be awesome! It's like a cheaper hotel!" No, it's not. It's a home. Like your home. My mom makes the beds when I am out of town and the neighbor kids down the street help clean and mow the yard to make sure everything maintains optimal amounts of awesome. Sometimes, houses do things and kids cut corners. When it rains, ants try to come in sometimes. It's a home. That's not your problem, it's mine. Which I happily fix, always, whenever I hear of a problem. But I have to be told of a problem to fix it. All of the reviews on this listing in which people were displeased with their stay would have had a great experience if they a) would have read the house manual and followed its directions and b) communicated to me any issues they were having. But please, don't book this listing if you are not understanding of the fact it's a home not a hotel and it's ran by humans trying their best to give you a good experience. Thank you, Jess Interaction with GuestsI am a touring musician/singer/songwriter and LOVE interacting with my Airbnb-er's whenever I can. I am a "townie" and have lots of recommendations of things to do and see around town and would be happy to show you myself if I am here. You are welcome to keep to yourself if thats what you prefer but, you are certainly welcome to come upstairs and chat over coffee or hangout on the back porch. I love getting to know people and have interesting conversations! The NeighborhoodI LOVE this neighborhood! It is SUPER safe and conveniently located to downtown/Aggieville. We are right next to the Zoo and High School. You can walk or ride a bike to Aggieville/Poyntz in less than 10 min. (the ride back up the hill might take a bit longer :P) Within minutes you can be on all of the major roads. It is so centrally located but also feels kind of tucked away. The neighbors are wonderful and helpful people. Getting AroundThere is a public transit in Manhattan, though it isn't utilized very often. You can call for a bus pickup or one of the handful of cabs in town. You can bicycle or walk most places fairly conveniently. Campus is a 10min bike ride away. Other Things to NoteThere is also a back porch and hammock you can use. Perfect for an afternoon of reading. There is a cat, very small dog who live upstairs (the dog leaves with me when I am on the road). We are all very friendly! The animals will be upstairs but they love meeting new friends and will certainly like saying "hello." We keep the house tidy and inviting. I Airbnb the upstairs bedrooms as well, so you might not be the only travelers in the house. I have had some amazing people stay here! A Pilot, a Zoo animal veterinarian, musicians (!), writers... there are some wonderful opportunities to meet other awesome people and hear stories.

There is a cat and a very small dog who live here also. We are all very friendly! The dog leaves with me when I am on the road. The animals can be kept away if they become too much of a bother but they love meeting new friends and will certainly like saying "hello." We keep the house tidy and inviting; full of light, laughter and art. Guest AccessFeel free to play the piano! but refrain from handling ANY of the other instruments. They are quiet delicate and even if not monetarily valuable they are rich in sentiment. As I live in the space, I do have my stuff there. Please be respectful of my things and privacy. :-) Interaction with GuestsI am a touring musician and singer/songwriter so I might be out of town playing shows when you come in. In which case, I have friends to greet you and let you in. I am happy to answer any of your questions regarding Manhattan and things to do and see. I can even show you around town if I am available! Getting AroundThere is a public transit in Manhattan, though it isn't utilized very often. You can call for a bus pickup or one of the handful of cabs in town. You can bicycle or walk most places fairly conveniently. Campus is a 10min bike ride away. Other Things to NoteDear First time airbnb-ers, Welcome! There are a lot of you in Kansas so I just wanted to clear some things up. :) I am a person and this is my home. I try exceptionally hard to give each and every one of my guests the BEST experience that I can. However, I am a human being. I do not have magical powers (though that would be awesome if I did). I can not make the power come back on in a thunderstorm. Similarly, I can not make technology work with just will power. I am not charging an exorbitant amount and have a maid service. I am not a corporation. PLEASE, have reasonable expectations and understanding. It means the world to me to have had so many tremendous guests and now, even new friendships from hosting. If you are just looking for a cheap place to stay, or if you would complain about the optional free shampoo that I try to leave out for my guests out of a courtesy because I know how sucky it is to have to lug around tiny bottles, please stay elsewhere. If you are a RAD human who LIKES other humans and treats them with kindness and respect, YOU ARE AWESOME! And I want to hang out with you! So awesome people... Come hang out. :) Thank you, Jess

The SpaceOne room is furnished with a full size bed, two nightstands, small chest of drawers, and the other includes a twin size bed and desk and chair. The only other room on the upstairs floor is the bathroom you will have to yourself. Airbnb classifies this as "one room" because it's not a whole house and I don't price each bedroom separately, but you can use both bedrooms. Sheets, towels and travel-size soap/shampoo/etc are provided. Breakfast might be prepared depending on the day of the week. If I'm at work, then fruit, cereal, bread, coffee and juice will be ready for you. Please note that Manhattan Kansas is NOT near Manhattan New York. Guest AccessLaundry, kitchen, living room and back patio with a grill are available to guests. Laundry detergent, all dishes and cookware, and the tv/home theater in the living room are ready for your use. And if you need a little oil, salt, or any other common kitchen staple, there is no need for you to buy a package when you can use a few tablespoons of mine. Interaction with GuestsI am here after work and happy to share a meal, conversation, or coffee. But if our schedules don't match up, I can let you in and you can make yourself at home. The NeighborhoodI've lived in Manhattan my whole life so I'm happy to suggest favorite restaurants, activities, hikes, road cycling routes, or take you to local paddling in my two kayaks. The neighborhood is good for evening walking, and close to a trailhead of the city-circling Linear Trail for runners snd bicyclists. Getting AroundParking is easily available on the street. A short walk to public transportation. Schedule permitting, I am also happy to help with transportation. Other Things to NoteI have reduced rates for long stays. That rate assumes you will clean your bedroom and bathroom yourself (towels and sheets are provided, along with the washer/dryer and detergent). It also assumes you will provide your own breakfast, and have use of the fridge, cookware, etc. to enjoy your own morning favorites. My vacuum is heavy, so please ask if you need help carrying it upstairs.

The SpaceOur house is spacious, full of light and located on a cul-de-sac in a well-established and safe neighborhood. You'll be comfortable here in our guest room with our queen sized bed, wi-fi access and wide array of books and local magazines. We will gladly provide a light breakfast (i.e. granola bars, toast, fruit) along with some coffee or tea to get your day started. Guest AccessYou will have private access to one bedroom and your own bathroom. You may also use our living room, dining room, and backyard. Guests staying a week or longer may also have access to the kitchen. Interaction with GuestsWe love to get to know our guests, but respect your space if you'd prefer to do your own thing. The NeighborhoodIt's full of trees! Waking up to birds chirping is wonderful. Our neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful, which can be hard to find in a college town. Getting AroundWhile Manhattan does have limited public transportation options (Uber, ATA Bus), we recommend having your own vehicle. Off-street parking is offered. Other Things to NoteWe have a sweet goldendoodle, Opal, who loves to be everyone's friend. However, we know that not everyone wants to also be her friend so when we have guests we do our best to keep her out of the main areas of the house.

You will have a private room with an adjacent, shared bath. Your room is furnished with a QUEEN sized bed, desk with basic office supplies, a clothing rack with plenty of hangers, a clothes iron, and hair dryer. One extra guest is allowed with a $10/night additional guest fee. I will set up a queen- sized air mattress in the living room. It is brand new and very comfortable. The house has central air conditioning and heat. The room itself has a ceiling fan and 2 windows with secure locks. There is a table fan and a space heater stored above the bed if you need the room extra cool or warm. The bathroom has a tub/shower and is only shared with me. Towels, shampoo and soap are provided, as well as some extra toiletries if you need them. You will have a dedicated basket in the rack above the toilet to store your things. Guests are welcome to watch TV (basic cable and Netflix/Amazon Video/Youtube/Crackle), sit at the table, hang on the couch, cook, play the keyboard, and use the backyard. The only area that's off limits is my room. Guest AccessGuests will be given a key to come and go as desired. Please arrange a check-in time with me, since I'd like to be able to greet you and facilitate introduction of pets if you are bringing a critter. Street parking is available directly in front of the house (please do not block the mailbox or else my mail person leaves me passive aggressive notes on my mail). Interaction with GuestsGuests can call or text me anytime with questions or concerns. I'm happy to chat, give directions, recommend places to eat, etc. I spend most of my time studying so if you want privacy, you've got it. The NeighborhoodMy home is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood. The house is within walking distance to a gas station/convenience store, Subway, Dominos pizza, Big D's Burger Shack, K's Nail Salon, and Crispy Cutz Barber Shop. About 0.3 miles farther up the road you'll find La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant, RC McGraw's Bar and Grill, Happy Valley Chinese Food, Paradise Donuts, Dollar General, Beer Goggles liquor store, and Bubble Wash car wash. About 2 miles south you'll find big chain stores like Walmart, Staples, Ace Hardware, Bed Bath and Beyond, and many restaurants. There are 2 supermarkets and a shopping mall all in the same area. The house is only a 10 min drive to Tuttle Creek State Park that offers nature trails, fishing, kayaking, disc golf, a shooting range, picnic tables, and lots more. The Konza prairie is just 10 miles south of here! Enjoy a walk through the tallgrass in one of the last remaining, untouched prairie lands in the United States. You might even see bison! Getting AroundTaxi Uber (rideshare service) I may be able to give you a lift somewhere, just let me know what your plans are for the day. Other Things to NoteMust love animals! I have 1 dog (rat terrier) and 1 cat. I also foster animals for the Riley County Humane Society, so I could have an additional dog, cat, or caged critter at any time. As of 9/2016 I have just one foster animal; a bearded dragon named Speedy (caged). If you'd like to know the current animal occupants before booking, just send me a message! Your pets are WELCOME, as long as they don't eat my cat or harass my dog. I try very hard to keep a tidy house, but if you are allergic to animal fur or can't tolerate getting some fur on your clothes, I'm afraid my place is not for you. My animals are kept out of your room the day before your arrival, and you can choose whether or not you want them to visit you during your stay.
