Cozy, warm and inviting-- all in an excellent location. This completely remodeled farmhouse is located on almost 8 wooded acres, just a few short minutes from downtown Mankato.
In the warm months, cross the street and find yourself on miles of walking, running and biking trails connected to the Red Jacket Trail system. Head down the road 1/2 a mile and spend the weekend mountain biking at Mt Kato or pack your kayak or canoe and make your way to the Blue Earth River just a mile down the road. Grab the family and visit any number of the many recreational lakes in the area, several within 20 minutes of the house. Or stay home, grill and eat out on the patio and catch fireflies in the yard.
In the winter months, watch the downhill skiers and snowboarders ski the front side of Mt Kato from your living room window while comfortably nestled in front of a warm pellet stove, or hit the slopes yourself! Snowshoe or cross country ski along the trails‌ or stay home and enjoy the peace and comfort that this home provides. Soak in the antique clawfoot tub situated in front of the picture window looking out over woods. Watch the hawks and deer in the backyard. Whip up a delicious dinner in the custom kitchen, utilizing the ample soapstone countertops and butcher block island. Or start a fire in the easy-to-use wood pellet fireplace and spend the evening reading, watching a movie, or enjoying time with those you love.
This peaceful home would make a great weekend or week-long retreat for a couple, a small family or a single professional who has to be in the area for work. It is a well-priced and much more comfortable and spacious alternative to hotels in the area.
As of April 1, 2014, we will now have on-site caretakers living in a separate apartment, with a separate entrance, in the lower level/basement of the house. The caretakers will mostly stay out of our your way, but if you need anything, this couple is there for you! They will set up a bonfire on the property, recommend a restaurant or get you in touch with a local outfitter for a river adventure.
Damage deposit is 100% refundable after check out. If you pay through personal check, you can write a separate check for the deposit (to be returned to you or destroyed after your stay), AND the turnover fee is waived. Please message me for details.
Any events that you wish to hold at the farmhouse, including a party, family reunion, etc, must be communicated to me. Additionally, there is $100 fee to host a gathering at the house. If an event is hosted without permission, the deposit will be forfeited. Large gatherings are very hard on the farmhouse's antique well and septic system, so we try to limit them. For the same reason, please be accurate about the number of people in your party in order to retain your deposit.

Just 3 minutes from downtown Mankato, this property is located in a river valley, a rare and beautiful section of the southern Minnesota region. The house is across the street from a protected land area and trail system; there is only one visible neighbor from the home. The property is treed behind the house, and these woods create a sense of seclusion while providing a place for kids to explore. Mt Kato, the local ski hill and mountain biking area, is within walking distance from the house. Additionally, the Seven Mile trail system offering mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding is located within 10/15 minutes of the house (on Hwy 160).
Mankato has a healthy diversity of restaurants and shopping as well as music and performances at various locations downtown, including the civic center. The area in general has several recreational lakes for boating, water skiing, etc.
All of this is located very conveniently to the Twin Cities-- a straight shot south on Hwy 169 and only a little over an hour away. A perfect, easy getaway from the bustle of the big city.
The house has ample parking with a long, wide driveway. Transportation from the Minneapolis airport is available via Land to Air shuttle service, based out of Mankato and reasonably priced.
