The SpaceEnjoy the Best of Leelanau County - Golf courses & Beaches! This little gem, the Good Harbor Golf & Beach Condo, is not only conveniently situated in the heart of Leelanau County and we strive to keep it very clean, comfortable, affordable and relaxing. This ground floor studio unit has a moderate sized kitchenette, large bathroom with Jacuzzi and separate shower, an open sleeping area (queen sized bed) that leads to sunken living room with a convertible sofa / bed) and a slider door to a deck which looks out over the 18th tee and Sugar Loaf Golf Course. And it's just two miles to the best beach of Good Harbor Bay in the Sleeping Bear National Park all making for a very peaceful setting, The cute little kitchenette has everything that you need to cook quick and easy meals but this place is so reasonably priced you won't be afraid to dine out at one or more of the many fine dining establishments nearby. The over sized bathroom makes it easier having an extra guest or two. An airstrip is within walking distance if you plan to fly in! Available year round for a great getaway or extended stay. In the winter, cross country ski right out the door to rolling terrain and wide open views. Sled down great hills, snow shoe up the mountain and or snowmobile on the many trails through Leelanau County, detail trail maps available! Spring time offers great rates for golf both right out your door (Sugarloaf, the Old Course) but also just two miles away (the Manitou Passage course) was designed by Arnold Palmer and is Beautiful. No need to go on about what to do and where to go in the summer, but Fall colors couldn't be prettier then right here at the quiet and private Good Harbor Golf & Beach Condo and the long winters provide an even more private setting as most of the Year Rounder Condo Owners are off getting their tans elsewhere. Guest AccessFirst and Foremost is the topic of "Accessing the Condo" as we have had a few people find it a little tricky to find and GPS often gets people lost so please make a note that all confirmed rsvps through airbnb will receive a special "Directions" document to help you find the Condo # 509 so please make a note of that and be sure not to leave them at home. Interaction with GuestsWe do not often interact with the guests in person as we figure the place is THEIR'S for the private duration of their stay and self check-ins and check-outs are very simple if you follow our rules and regs. (also provided when you book) We Are Always Available however if guests need us for any reason and we supply a number of phone numbers for people to Track Us Down as we are not always in the office and very often, out cleaning units, prepping for new renters or just doing errands, maintenance and periodic check-ins at our other properties. The NeighborhoodThe Good Harbor Golf and Beach Condo is our name for our unit, but the actual Name of our association is "The Winged Foot Condo Association." Our Unit #509 is in a very nice location and is one of four units in Building # 2 of our attractive, Three Building Condo Association. We purchased this unit BECAUSE of it's location which is a "Central Location" to most of the Leelanau Peninsula's many attractions. Most of the Condo Units at this property are Owner Occupied and so you will find your temporary neighbors to be friendly, retired people who like to golf and spend three months a year here and then leave for the South. Renters should feel free to speak friendly with the other Condo Unit Owners as they are all very nice people and always ready to help. Close Bye within a few miles is the World Famous "Sleeping Bear Dunes" which is an absolutely awe inspiring experience including a wilderness drive through a natural Michigan Forest, over a covered bridge and Westward to the most beautiful Overview of Lake Michigan 600 feet atop the Main Dune which descends to lake lake Michigan's Shore. (the people who run down look like ants when they get to the bottom) From this look out, at the mid-point while driving through this area you will never forget the name of the road; Pierce Stocking Drive. Other attractions are the "Sunset Cruise" through Good Harbor Bay which runs out of Leland seasonally, a very unique shopping area called "Fishtown" which is on the Leland River, a great inside/outside restaurant called "The Cove" right On the Leland River next to a waterfall, an Authentic Irish Pub/Restaurant called "The Little Traverse Inn", The best burgers and pub style food and locals can be found at "Fisher's Happy Hour Tavern" northward in an area north of Leland called "Gill's Pier" and more substantial fare at such fine restaurants as "Martha's" in Suttons Bay, (15 minutes) The "Riverside" in East Leland (10 minutes) and "La Becasse," (more of a Five Star Fine Dining Establishment) for those looking for the highest quality of gourmet fare. (10 minute drive to the South) There are many beaches to choose from and we supply a map to each of them, some ranging from populated to other lesser known ones we can tip you off to. We also leave a book of information about all activities you can browse through when you are relaxing inside the Condo # 509 air conditioning. Getting AroundBring your bikes, snowshoes, snowmobiles, jogging and hiking shoes and Vespas if you would like and there's even a small airport for those who like to Fly In. Otherwise, we are remote and no real public transportation or taxis operate in this area. So bringing your own car or arranging for a rental are your best options for full county reconnoitering. Other Things to NoteThis Unit has a Brand New Pillow Top Mattress! You are going to sleep like a baby. And, there are no loud highways anywhere nearby. Just an occasional Golf course Mower during the Peak Season and snowmobilers buzzing around out on the Golf Course in the Winter Evenings. The view of the nearby Sugar Loaf Mountain is often accompanied by early morning fog, the afternoon and early evening sunsets and low light pollution makes for perfect star gazing.

The SpaceHouse is a 1200 sq ft timber frame, mortice and tenon frame, with stress skin panels. Custom made cabinets. House is a simple yet elegant design. The kitchen is nicely equipped, with a nice collection of cook books. Also a nice collection of reading books. A good place for quiet contemplation. The house comfortably sleeps four guests. There is good hiking right out the front door! We are located 9 miles to Empire Beach, and 18 miles from Traverse City. This region is renowned for its natural beauty, the spectacular sand beaches of Lake Michigan, the vineyards and cherry orchards of Leelanau County. The closest golf course is four miles away. Empire is the gateway to the 70,000 acre national park, Sleeping Bear Dunes. No shortage of skiing, hiking, beach combing, canoeing, fishing and peace and quiet. We are located only twenty minutes to Traverse City, which offers many fine dining possibilities as well as the newly renovated State Theater, home of the Traverse City Film Festival. An additional timber framed guest cabin is available, a stones throw from the house. Please inquire for details. If you are looking for the peace and quiet of the woods, this is an ideal place to be. The NeighborhoodMy mother, Mary Alice White, purchased this land with a small group of friends in 1995. One hundred and twenty eight acres in Southern Leelaunau County, eight miles east of Empire. She wanted to build a modest sized home, and eventually retire to living in Northern Michigan. I moved back to Michigan from Northern California, and with my partner Uta, built this 1200 square foot timber frame house. The house is a mile back in the woods at the end of a well maintained two track. It sits above and in sight of a small lake. My Mother moved here to live full time in 2000, and died seven years later, after a five year illness battling an auto immune disorder. My mother designed the house with a woman architect, and chose a simple affordable design. The interior has a warmness afforded by lots of wood finish. Hard wood floors and wood ceilings. The kitchen cabinets were designed and built by my Uncle John Chipman, a master cabinet maker, and generous and loving brother. My mother has a nice library of books. Being a Psychologist, there are many books on psychology, but she had a wide range of interests, and loved poetry. If you enjoy books, you will be at home in her house. I call it an artist retreat in respect of my Mother’s style and sensibilities. The house holds her aesthetic and it retains her love of simplicity. She loved to cook and the kitchen is well stocked. Her favorite cookbooks are all available. All combined, this is a nice home to help nurture and encourage a guest’s intention of a relaxing, peaceful retreat.

ENJOY MICHIGAN'S LEELANAU PENINSULA!! Our charming lake house sits on an acre of land on Little Traverse Lake in the heart of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, named by Good Morning America in 2011 as the most beautiful place in the U.S. In the summer, the lake, with its private, sandy beach is great for kids, perfect for all water sports or just sunning on the dock. Just across our designated 'Scenic Winding Road' is the national lakeshore with wooded dunes through which hiking and cross-country ski trails take you three-quarters of a mile to the nearly secluded Good Harbor Bay on Lake Michigan. The interior of the Leelanau Peninsula has well-paved roads with little traffic which makes them perfect for road biking. The bike routes are moderately challenging for the novice to very hilly for the experienced road bikers. You will enter our home through a custom designed round-topped 'Hobbit' white oak door. Our 2002 architect-renovated, art-filled home has two charming bedrooms on the main floor, one with a king size bed and a private patio, the other with twin beds. There is a full bath with tub and shower nearby and a half bath in the tile-floored vestibule near the front door. As you step down from the vestibule, you will enter a large living room with a 1904 'found' antique mantle surrounding a tiled fireplace. The white oak floor covered by an oriental rug in the center continues into the modern kitchen and into the dining room surrounded by windows on three sides with a view of the lake. A large stone terrace with a dining table, chairs and a lounge facing the lake can be reached through French doors from the dining room as well as from the living room. Also on the main floor looking out to the lake is a two-storey library/ music/ TV room with a large, field stone fireplace. French doors next to the fireplace lead out to the terrace as well. There is a second entrance under a breezeway from the mudroom which has sinks and a wine cooler. An outside shower is in the breezeway for washing off sandy feet and bodies. The second floor can be reached by an open stairway in the vestibule which leads up to a window overlooking the library. To the right is the master suite with a king size bed, built-in bookcase/headboard. And French doors which open to a private balcony looking out to the lake. The suite has a large bathroom with a glass-surrounded shower and three shower heads, a Jacuzzi-style tub with water jets, a bidet and separate sinks for him and her. Across the hall is a small laundry room with washer, drier and ironing board. At the end of the hall is an office with computer and a fax machine/copier. There is a large walk-in closet off of the office. At the other end of the second floor is an open play area which leads to the 'carriage house' over the two-car garage. The 'carriage house' consists of a small sitting room large enough to hold a crib or a “play and pack.” Next to the sitting room is a bedroom with a king size bed and French doors opening out to a private balcony with a view of the lake. Down the hall is the “bunk room” which can sleep four in two sets of bunk beds. The room is built into a hill and has its own private deck in the woods. At the end of the hall is a full bath with a stand-up shower. The Amenities of the Area: The Leelanau Peninsula is made up of rolling hills and valleys with charming towns and inland lakes surrounded by beautiful Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay beaches which are seldom crowded. This rural area is occupied by farmers growing fresh Michigan produce, fishermen who catch whitefish from Lake Michigan every day of the year, cherry farmers who produce cherries for the country, vintners who produce wine that competes with the best in the US, restauranteurs who offer everything from family meals to fine dining, shop owners who sell fine antiques and fine art as well as souvenirs, vacationers who dream of retiring on the peninsula and those retirees whose dream came true. Many artists, writers and musicians have moved to the area because of its natural beauty. The roads and towns display the names of the early Czech, Bohemian and Polish settlers of the peninsula. Some of the Special Events: In the summer, there are the Cherry Festival, the Dune Grass Music Festival, Suttons Bay Art Fair, Food and Wine Festival, Interlochen Music Festival, Michael Moore's Film Festival, fireworks and parades on the Fourth of July and torch lighting ceremonies on Labor Day when cottagers prepare to return home at the end of the summer. In the fall, there are color tours, vineyard tour weekends, a culinary arts weekend, a long-distance road bike race and the Iceman, a thirty mile off-road bike race, in November. The Vasa, a cross-country ski race in the winter is world famous. Wine tasting is offered by the many wineries on the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas. There are antique shops as well as fine art galleries in most of Leelanau's towns and in Traverse City. Nationally known musicians perform at Interlochen and there are a number of small venues where you can hear fine, local musicians. The area has a number of good bookstores as well as many fine restaurants. There are two excellent public radio stations, WNMC and Interlochen, on which independent music, classical music and live concerts can be heard. Keywords: Lake House
