The SpaceWe, Meghan and Steve, welcome you to join us for a few restful days or weeks here at our historic Vermont farm where we carry on an uninterrupted tradition of grass farming begun in the late 1700's. While Sunrise Farm is a fully operational and productive farm, it also rests in one of the most idyllic and biologically diverse sites in Vermont. Most notable about the farm is our lack of pretense. Every working farm is a work in progress, balancing between daily chores and seasonal rhythms, busy summers and rejuvenating winters. We are fluent in the language of sweat equity and value muddy boots. For many visitors this can feel more like a welcoming foreign country than a shiny Holiday Inn. If your interest lies in making the most of nearby Brattleboro and other area gems our location, ten minutes from I-91, makes that a breeze. If you prefer spending time hiking, swimming, or bird watching, our farm swimming pond and miles of well maintained private trails though our 200 acres of Vermont beauty are here for you. Diverse wildlife from moose to goshawks make their home here as well. Your hosts can explain explain the intricacies of Vermont farming and forestry from maple sap production, timber growing and sawmilling, pasture management for beef and poultry, and vegetable growing and preserving. The residence is an autonomous 2 bedroom, 2-story apartment that is part of the original 240 year old farmhouse. It has its own kitchen, bathroom and living room. Outfitted with a Queen and Full bed, this is a welcoming place for families or couples traveling together. Additionally, there is a small room that can be used for families wishing to spread out, outfitted with bunk beds and a trundle, potentially accommodating three children. There is an extra charge for this room ($30 /night - just book for 5 people when you make the reservation, and the fee will be included). The kitchen is stocked with everything you will need to prepare your own meals. In season, pick your own garden produce such as fresh cut greens, ripe tomatoes, or fruit from the orchard. Or, you can enjoy Brattleboro's great selection of restaurants with suggestions available from your hosts. The style of the farm is relaxed, as it's an interesting conglomeration of the 2 families who have farmed here. You will see the original hemlock floor and hand planed moulding in the living room from the founding Thurber family, Bertha Thomas' 1900s wallpaper in the stairwell, and wide pine floors grown and milled at the farm in one of the bedrooms. The furniture is auction -eclectic mixed with some beautiful antiques. Most who stay here comment about the "magic of Sunrise Farm ", remarking on the noticable confluence of natural energy here. Please email us with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you. Interaction with GuestsWe leave that up to our guests. If you prefer privacy, we respect that. If you want to be more social, we love to meet new people, share our knowledge of farming and our corner of Vermont, and trade ideas on anything from the meaning of progress to progressive agriculture. The NeighborhoodMany enjoy relaxing into the farm and stay at the farm for their entire visit. Besides the pond and trails, there are hammocks, vistas of Mt Monadnock, or a short walk to the neighbor's organic strawberry and flower farm for added sustenance and beauty. It's an easy 3 mile bike ride to the Green River dam for swimming, or a short drive to go blueberry picking at the Whetstone Ledges. Winter guests can enjoying skiing at Mt Snow (50 minutes away), or Stratton Mountain (70 minutes). Getting AroundWe are located 7 miles from the town of Brattleboro, which is about a 15 minute drive. We recommend that you have a car, though hardier souls can do well with a bicycle. NYC is 2.5 hours south. Boston is 2 hours east. The nearest airport is BDL, Springfield / Hartford in Connecticut, 1.25 hours south. Other Things to NoteSeasonal activities at the farm: April - Gardens are starting to be planted. Feeder cows go out to pasture at the end of the month. May - Earliest greens are ready to eat from the garden. Unequivocal reprieve from winter's chill. June - Garden is abundantly producing. Strawberries are ripe. Afternoons at the farm pond swimming. July - Blueberries are ripe. Fence maintenance to tame summer's growth. Mid-summer weight checks for beef stock. Garlic is harvested. First of the broiler chicks go out to pasture. August - Canning and freezing of garden produce. Peaches and plums are ripe. Wood-splitting for winter heat continues. Hot afternoons spent tubing on the West river. September - Raspberries are ripe. Gardens wind down. Chickens and cows continue to grow on pasture. Fall colors come late in the month. October - First frost comes. Fall colors peak the first half of the month. Remaining beef and chickens are put in the freezer. Wood stoves get fired up. November - Forestry work starts, thinning out the maple stands, harvesting firewood. Great time for hiking. December - Continued work in the forest. Start of snowshoeing and cross-country ski season. January - Blessed rest. Stacking wood, replenishing wood supplies. Keeping stoves lit. Reading. February - Preparations for maple syrup season. Sap lines are repaired. The SpaceThis is a rustic cabin. It has electricity, a wood stove only for for heat, and a compost toilet. We bring water up for your use (no running water, no shower). As we are getting into the colder weather, you must know how to work a wood stove, and keep it burning, to stay here. (If you are planning to use the space just at night for sleeping, this would not be a good fit, during the winter months.) There is a small counter space for preparing basic food, and a small refridge but there are no cooking facilities in the cabin. There is an outdoor fire chiminea, picnic table, and hammock. Guests have access to the grounds for hiking, swimming in the pond, apple picking in the fall, visiting with the farm animals, biking and other outdoor activities (snow shoeing, XC skiing in the winter) The cabin sits by itself, on the edge of the woods and is very private. Our property is located on Ames Hill Road, which is dirt. During the winter it is best if you have all wheel or 4 wheel drive to get up the road. You will pass several family farms, woods, and a brook on your way up. Yet it is a quick 15 minute ride into downtown Brattleboro. Brattleboro has a vibrant arts community, restaurants, and local shopping. This is a rustic cabin in Vermont. Please bring your own bedding for the futon. Additionally, it is a short hike up to the cabin with your gear. Please note that you must have an adequate profile and verifications to book. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire 38 acres for hiking, relaxing on various benches and hammocks, ice skating, sledding, swimming in the pond in the summer, picking apples in the orchard in the fall. There is a chiminea for building an outside fire. Interaction with GuestsThe cabin is very private, and on the edge of the property nestled near the woods. We are available should you need anything. The SpaceAncient updated homes bring a sense of quiet history as their vibe. This house has had many updates over the years to make it the comfortable cozy home it is. In summer most of the time is spent outside, but in winter the fire place in the living room is inviting and the hot tub just outside is an absolute must after a winter day outdoors. Guest AccessBecause the house is old the only place you probably won't want to go is the cellar...not the basement, but the cellar. It's good for root veges, and wine and that's about it. Interaction with GuestsSo, I generally can be reached, but am not in the area and so if there is a problem, please do call me and if there is no answer at the moment you call, check the House book and the names of people who could help are in there. The NeighborhoodSo, when it comes to a neighborhood, we really don't have (URL HIDDEN) the traditional sense. It is surprising the interesting people who live up in the hill towns of rural Vermont. We have 1200 acres of conservation land behind the house and we have come to know most of the people who surround it. Getting AroundGPS is not a reliable way to get around. However, we are about 20 minutes to Greenfield, Massachusetts and Rt. 91 or 20 minutes to Brattleboro, Vermont and exit 1 on Rt. 91. NH is just over the Connecticut River down in Brattleboro

The SpaceThis house was hand-built by the family in the 1990s and was a beloved family home for two decades. It's now used by the family on special occasions, and ready to welcome you at other times. Guest AccessThe entire house is at your disposal. Interaction with GuestsWe live nearby, and can help with advice on local activities and any questions that come up. The NeighborhoodThere are no other homes within view of the property. The long and curving driveway makes the house very private. Off of a dirt road with a large antique farm up the road it is pristine and scenic. Getting AroundThe house is on a beautiful, lightly traveled winding dirt road (great for walking and biking), so a car is necessary (except for serious adventurers on foot or bicycle). Other Things to NoteWe are located within a few miles of Marlboro College and the world famous music festival in July and August. There are numerous farmers markets in the area as well as many outdoor and recreational activities.

Blueberry lodge was built as a family vacation home suited to social gatherings. The lodge is 4200 square feet, with four large bedrooms with en suite full baths on the ground floor and a 2100 square foot open great room on the second floor. Designed by renowned architect Piet Van Dijk, this modern lodge is designed to comfortably accommodate the needs of different family arrangements while providing a gracious and convivial social space. The master suite contains a king sized bed, a kitchenette, dressers and large closets and a large bathroom with a double shower and vanity. The second bedroom has a king that can be converted into two twins and a full bath with large shower. The third bedroom has a queen sized bed, a full sized fold out futon and a full bath with shower and tub. The fourth bedroom has a king that can also be converted into two twins, a queen sized murphy bed and a full bath with shower. The entry hall is large and open with plenty of winter clothing storage and a couch. There is also a large separate laundry room on this floor. The ground floor is heated with radiant 'in floor' heating which is very comfortable in the cold weather months. The great room has a cathedral ceiling and a monitor that adds light and regulates heat in the summer. It comprises a large open kitchen, a formal living area, a dining area, a full bar, a gaming area, a billiards table that doubles as a ping pong table and a media viewing area with an HD projection as well as traditional TV. The lodge has DirecTV and high speed internet. There are also two wood burning stoves and a large exterior deck with a gas grill. Renters will be able to use one bay of the separate three car garage. Outside there is also a large slate tile patio under the deck, a wood storage shed and a covered entry way with a small patio. There is a 'Boules' court and picnic table to one side of the house. Blueberry Lodge is two miles from South Pond, a beautiful; mountain lake with public access and is 22 miles from Mount Snow, a 30 minute drive. Finally, while Blueberry Lodge is deep in the mountains of southern Vermont on top of scenic Ames Hill, it is only twelve minutes from Interstate 91 in West Brattleboro Vermont so it is surprisingly convenient for visitors from the south.
