Self-drive safari Needles Lodge is situated between the two main southern entry points to the Kruger National Park – 35 km to Malelane Gate and only 30 km to Crocodile Bridge Gate. This makes for quick, easy access to the Park for day trips, with time enough for you to view its southern – most popular – part. The Lodge's management will go over the maps with you, and where required give advice, including our guides' advice on the latest sightings of the Big Five. Mozambique and Swaziland trips Apart from its easy access to the Kruger National Park, Needles Lodge is the ideal springboard for your day trips to Mozambique and Swaziland. It is also a perfect stopover for travellers leaving these countries for either shopping trips or continuing holidays. Maputo, Mozambique's capital is a wonderful experience. Tour the city with its wonderful architecture and history, visiting the various craft markets. A trip to Maputo would not be complete without enjoying the finest African/Portuguese cuisine, which incorporates in some of the finest sea-food and traditional fare on the Costa Do Sol beachfront. Swaziland is also just an hour away, and this day trip offers a different yet equally enjoyable experience. Visit traditional cultural villages, see bushman paintings, visit art and craft centres, and view the beauty of one of Africa's last remaining kingdoms. If you would prefer escorted tours to both Maputo and Swaziland, these are easily arranged. Optional guided activities – just ask and we will plan them for you Kruger Park game drives If you want to experience a full-day safari or a night drive into the Kruger National Park, just ask us and will gladly arrange it for you. Or you might want to go on a nature trail or bush walk led by qualified park rangers. You choose, and we will arrange it. Day drives You could arrange with us to enjoy a full- or half-day safari with a qualified ranger in either an open or an air-conditioned vehicle. Leave Needles Lodge at 05h00 in the summer, or 05h30 in the winter. Enjoy the African sunrise, and see the first game on the plains. Perhaps be one of the lucky few, and experience predators on the hunt. At approximately 10h00, stop and have a delicious cooked breakfast at a water hole, where you can see mighty herds of wildebeest, elephant and other game that come to quench their thirst. Spend the whole day discovering the ‘Big Five’ and learning about the wonders of nature in its truest form. The game drives concentrate on the southern region of the Kruger National Park, because this is internationally recognised as the best game viewing area for the Big Five. Visit Skakuza or Lower Sabie, the main rest camps, where curio shops are situated. Return to the comfort of the Lodge at approximately 17h30. These drives are undertaken only by South African National Park's guides, but we will make the arrangements for you. Or you could play at one of the golf courses in and around the town of Nelspruit. The SpaceIt is said that Africa is the cradle of mankind and there is something magical and familiar about it. Well, answer that whisper in the blood and return to the source by booking a stay in Majuli River Lodge. Awaken to the “sound of Africa” as our resident pair of fish eagles proclaim this stretch of river as their own and onto the deck to check as the permanent hippo pod settle back into the river after a night of foraging and the crocodiles on the sandbanks catching the early morning sun. Relax over breakfast and enjoy the traffic as the animals come down to the river in front of you. Expect regular visits from elephant, buffalo, rhino, water buck among a host of other game while you prepare for your day ahead. Plan your trip into Kruger as due to our position in Marloth Park between the Crocodile and Malelane gates it allows to enter in one gate and leave through the other so not back tracking on any routes and getting to see as much of the park as possible. Or spend the day in Marloth safely walking in the African bush or visit our fenced private reserve “Lionspruit” to find the ruling pride of lions among others of the Big 5. Or simply just relax on the deck with a good book while keeping an eye on the river activity and awaiting regular visits in the garden from zebra, warthogs and even giraffe. Whatever you do ensure you get back to the house as afternoon becomes evening and enjoy sundowners with spectacular sunsets over Kruger Park directly in front of the house. Night is spent either at the fire pit enjoying a barbeque or once again on the deck listening to the night shift. Expect to hear the contact calls to each other of the hippo, the unmissable sound of the hyena and the thrilling and unmistakable call of the lions. Keep your eyes on the garden though as we usually get a visitor or two from a silent kudu to “Arnold” the resident duiker who lives behind the house before retiring to bed in eager anticipation of another fabulous day ahead. Majuli River Lodge is a cosy two bedroomed lodge with a large deck and over 2 km of uninterrupted Kruger Park and Crocodile River views. A perfect base for starting your trips into Mpumalanga’s highlights like Kruger, God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon, etc. or just a place to relax, enjoy the bush and let the game come to you. This is truly a magical piece of Africa and Majuli River Lodge commands one of the best views of this wilderness. Douw our local manger will help with anything you need and make sure you are settled. If you want to learn the secret of where South African's holiday and experience an inexpensive but real safari experience then Majuli River Lodge is the ideal place. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. Guest AccessThe lodge is entirely private and self-contained; guests do not share any facilities. It's 1500 hectares of natural bush land, and abundant wild game. It borders Kruger park. Many wildlife species will visit you right at the house, including several gazelle species, zebras, giraffes and wildebeest. Although well equipped you will feel a unique African bush experience. Getting AroundYou will need a car but a standard rental car is fine to get around the park and for any trips you want to take into Kruger Park. Guided tours can be arranged by our manager when there or in advance.

You will find 2 small supermarkets for the day-to-day needs, a petrol station, restaurants, bars, 2 open access swimming pools and a tennis court. Even for those who love shopping Marloth is interesting. Nelspruit with its shoppings malls is only a one hour drive from Marloth. Finally one don’t even need to go into Kruger.. You will see free roaming animals around the house daily such as Kudu, Impala, Zebra, Giraffe, monkeys, warthog, and of course the lovely bushbabys. Awaken to the “sound of Africa” as our resident pair of fish eagles proclaim this stretch of river as their own and onto the deck to check as the permanent hippo pod settle back into the river after a night of foraging and the crocs on the sandbanks catching the early morning sun. Relax over breakfast and enjoy the traffic as the animals come down to the river in front of you. Expect regular visits from elephant, buffalo, rhino, water buck among a host of other game while you prepare for your day ahead. Plan your trip into Kruger as due to our position between the Crocodile and Malelane gates it allows to enter in one gate and leave through the other so not back tracking on any routes and getting to see as much of the park as possible. Or spend the day in Marloth itself with a private fenced reserve “Lionspruit” to find the ruling pride of lions among others of the Big 5. Or simply just relax on the deck with a good book while keeping an eye on the river activity and awaiting regular visits in the garden from zebra, kudu, warthogs and even giraffe. Whatever you do ensure you get back to the house as afternoon becomes evening and enjoy sundowners with spectacular sunsets over Kruger Park directly in front of the house. Night is spent either at the fire pit enjoying a braai or once again on the deck listening to the night shift. Expect to hear the contact calls to each other of the hippo, the unmissable sound of the hyena and the thrilling and unmistakable call of the lions. Keep your eyes on the garden though as we usually get a visitor or two from a silent kudu to “Arnold” the duiker who lives behind the house before retiring to bed in eager anticipation of another fabulous day ahead.
