The SpaceWest Vista is a small rustic 1930's cabin on the shore of Lake Superior near Marquette, Michigan. The cabin has very few amenities; no telephone or wireless, no indoor toilet, no shower or bath. It has a wood stove for heat and a hand pump for water. This place is well suited as a retreat for an artist, writer or meditator or that someone who really wants to get away and experience the beauty of Lake Superior and northern Michigan. The layout has one bedroom off the kitchen with a queen size bed and a sleeping space in the loft. There's a small 4 burner electric stove and oven with lots of counter space for preparing meals. The living room and dining area are combined with an efficient wood burning stove. There are several miles of white quartz sand beach going east and west from the cabin with resident bald eagles which often can be seen flying along the coast or perched in a giant white pine. If one stays up late enough, the northern lights can be viewed over Lake Superior from the deck. Marquette is the closest city which has many festivals during the summer, miles of biking trails, good restaurants and craft breweries. Munising is nearby with the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore which should not be missed.

The SpaceThe apartment was designed by my father and built in 2012 by my husband. He reused old doors from our 1880 era home. The wood flooring is mostly recycled wood and the trim was milled from locally harvested white pine. The living room was refurnished in April 2016. We hope you enjoy our space! We live with our family in the home adjacent to the apartment. We hope to give our guests as much privacy as possible, but want them to know we will be around the property during your stay. We do not allow any smoking or animals on the property. Parking available for one car in the driveway. Street parking available during non-winter months. Due to limited parking, we can only have one vehicle per party. We have a wood shop in the garage under the apartment. It is well-insulated. However, muffled voices and tools can still be heard somewhat when we are down there working. If we have to work in the shop while we have guests staying with us, we limit it between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy meeting our guests, that's part of the enjoyment of Airbnb, but we also respect your space and privacy. We are willing to help with any suggestions regarding places to eat, things to do in the Upper Peninsula. The NeighborhoodWe love the proximity of the conveniences of town while also being only minutes from wilderness, woods and Lake Superior. Other Things to NoteWe do not allow any smoking or animals on the property. Parking available for one car per group of guests. The apartment is on the second story and requires one to walk up a flight of stairs.

Cliffs Ridge is so-named because you can see its rooftop from Cliffs Ridge Run at the top of Chair #1 at Marquette Mountain, formerly Cliffs Ridge Ski Area. There is no apostrophe in 'Cliffs' because it was originally named after the Cliffs Dow Company. The exposed beams in the roof and Great Room are actually recycled from the old Tracy Mine in Ishpeming. Part of the beauty of renting Cliffs Ridge is its personality and warmth -- you can enjoy family and friends without the commercial feeling of a hotel, and with the great kitchen space you can enjoy excellent meals without the expense of going out to eat for every meal. Fully furnished, it is a wonderful place to rejuvenate and spend time with the ones you love. Relax in front of the fireplace after a great day of skiing, curl up and watch a movie in the comfortable seating in the living room, enjoy drinks on the 2nd-story deck after a day at the beach, or read a book in one of the private bedrooms. Cliffs Ridge has four separate bedrooms: a master queen with master bath and futon; a bunkbed room with two singles; two queen rooms separated French doors with another full bath and door to outside. It also has two futons suitable for kids (one in master and one in living room) and reclining sofa and chair in the living room. There is an additional bathroom on the floor with the living room, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything necessary to feed a crowd including two crockpots. There are two gas grills; one on the upper deck off the living area; the other is in the garage and can be used as backup. This year-around vacation home is the perfect spot for family reunions, ski vacations, NMU parent activity weekends, wedding parties and more. Our hope is that your family can enjoy it the way we have for 20+ years – and that it can become your Marquette home-away-from-home as well! Rates run from $150-250/night; $550-$1500/week and depend on number of guests. Special rates can be given for 4 or more nights -- please call. There is a non-refundable cleaning fee and a refundable security deposit. Rates include up to 10 people, each additional person is $10/per night. Pets are $50 each non-refundable deposit and $10/per pet each night. Need a comfortable, furnished place to stay for more than a week? Special long-term rates are available -- Give us a call! Minutes from Lake Superior with miles of gorgeous sand beach; minutes from Marquette with great shopping and restaurants; Northern Michigan University functions; seconds from one of the best ski hills in the Midwest and XC ski trails; M-553 connects to all of the surrounding bike paths and trails; mountain biking and climbing on the dirt road immediately north of the house. And the garbage truck comes by late on Tuesday nights or early Wednesday morning. Light sleepers may like to know this in advance. There are plenty of fans to drown out the sounds of the night if necessary. A/C: we have one unit to cool down the entire home. The house stays quite cool on it's own and the unit will take the edge off of a hot UP night. Please understand that the house will not be super chilled, but will be comfortable. Pets: we love pets! BUT those bringing pets to stay are responsible for cleaning up pet hair/messes. Any time spent on our behalf removing pet hair from furniture or linens is not considered part of the "routine" cleaning. The SpaceThe cabin has two bedrooms. One has a queen bed and the other is a full size. There is a futon in living room with bedding provided. There are two cots with mattresses in the sunroom for more guests and only use if requested. Recently installed electric baseboard heaters in bedrooms and main room. They each have a manual thermostat, but please remember to turn off when not needed (electricity is very expensive in our area), We also have fans in each room. The cabin is filled with everything you'll need. We don't provide beach towels, and please don't use bathroom towels for outdoors. There is a hose behind the cabin to rinse off sand from the beach (we hope everyone uses mindfulness with sand in cabin). There is a vacuum in the closet to the right of the front door if needed. Guest AccessThe cabin is nestled in a forest of large pines & spruce trees, and a short walk to a very nice quiet beach on Lake Superior. During your stay you will be close to the Au Train River and Lake. Rental Outfitters are available on the river. Deer Lake is another close by option, and has a nice public beach area if Superior is too cold. Half a mile walk down the beach and you will have access to Sand River, which meanders behind the cabin. There are nice trails that follow the river. Fine dining just minutes away at the famous Brown Stone Inn. Prime rib on Saturday nights & the best white fish or perch dinner around. Pictured Rocks State Park & Island is 30 minute drive down M-28 towards Munising. Interaction with GuestsI'm was born and raised in Marquette. I'm the fourth generation from a hardy stock of people that managed to make a living and learned how to endure the harsh winters. Much of my family still live in the area, and have cabins near ours. We don't live in the U.P., but we have people for cleaning and maintenance. We recently moved from Northern Kentucky to Chattanooga TN. We may list a private room in our home here through Airbnb for those who want to visit this area. We're in the city limit, and close to all the area has to offer for a great trip. The cabin has plenty of brochures and information about what the area has to offer. I'm always a phone call away, so feel free to contact me as needed. The NeighborhoodThis area of shoreline is just beautiful. The woods are so peaceful and full of adventure. Within a few miles you will have the pleasure of touring a unique place. A local man has created an outdoor art museum of metal and wood working that entails history of the area and some quirky fun stuff in the mix. There is a nice outdoor pavilion that hosts local music on specific nights during the summer months. A sure place that families will enjoy. Getting AroundThere is nice tourist information in both Marquette and Munising. The cabin will be filled with information as well. Other Things to NoteWe had to cancel the internet & Wi-Fi connection due to cost. We rent in a short season, so paying year round for service didn't work out. Wish they would keep costs more affordable. The cable is high also, but can be put on seasonal plan so we do provide that. We also have a DVD player.
