The Spacehowdy & welcome to little hill, our small family homestead, just off the Olympic Peninsula, on Marrowstone Island, (the island you can drive to) where we share the place with friends, and friends of friends...we say “wayfarers welcome, trespassing encouraged"!
The house is completely furnished, and the kitchen fully stocked, with everything you'll need from barbecue for the summer sunset dinners to a large library of '60s classic vinyl, and lots of books. Everything here is about comfort and simplicity. The open kitchen and dining area, as well as the living room and upstairs bedroom look out over Marrowstone Island's small Mstery Bay. There's both a front and back patio, for meals and relaxing outside.
We share the place with friends and eco-travelers who appreciate the simple beauty and pace of farm living. There's no TV, so the evening's entertainment usually involves the front porch, listening to the frogs until the sun sets, and the stars come out, sweet and quiet just the way we like it. The eagles and waterfowl here on the bay are abundant, the beaches are some of the best in Puget Sound.
Whether you bike the island, hike the Olympics, explore Fort Flager's beaches and trails , or play in Port Townsend, you can come back play bocce on the pasture, swing in a hammock, or just relax! Little Hill is a great place to hang out, read, and play games.
Its all very simple, rustic, and beautiful, with great beaches to comb, quiet roads to bike, bays to kayak; birds to watch, and clams to dig all in the neighborhood. Port Townsend is 25 minutes and trailheads to hike in the Olympics are an hour away.
Our summer garden & orchard: Help yourself! Feel free to whatever is in season – tomatoes, kale, salad greens, squash, apples, pears are often abundant. Same with herbs near the house. Check out what we have before bringing salad and other greens from town .
Restaurants: the best nearby is the Ajax – down by the water before you get to Pt Hadlock. Farm Reach Café in Chimicum is great for lunch and baked goods, the place at airport is fun and good for breakfast and lunch. And the Chimicum Corner Farm Stand is awesome for a wide choice of local groceries. Oh yea-- the taco place at the discovery bay golf course -- is great!
There are a bunch of other great choices in Port Townsend: The Owl Sprit, Sweet Laurette's, the Fountain, and the the Asian noodle place on Rose St are some of our favorites.
Housekeeping: We are just a small family farm, we have no staff; (that would be us) so we rely on your help, before you leave:
Kitchen clean: dishes done, recycling clean and sorted. Compost emptied into the large bin near garden gate. No animal fats/proteins please. There's a $20 fee if we end up having to clean up after your group.
Fires out, lights and all heaters off, toilet fan unplugged (behind hanging quilt).
Think of this as a visit to a friend's farm…We host friends, and friends of friends…its not an inn or B&B, but our home, a place, we love to share - for learning, working, playing..
Sheep: Our ewes are Sophie and Lizzie. Feel free to feed them clover, some weeds, apples, raw vegetable scraps, tortilla chips! They love snacks and attention.
Water is well water and fine to drink. If you prefer “city" water, com eo over to the main house, for a pitcher.

Check out what we have before bringing salad and other greens from town . Guest AccessOur main house is the original homestead's farm house. We're the second or third onl desk homestead on the island! there's also another bunk house, in the back where large parties can rent as well, separately or together. ( see our other listing) occasionally both the bunkhouse and the farmhouse are rented to two different parties, but there's plenty of space and privacy for both, and that is so rare, it's never actually happened...
We are usually here to get you settled, hand you keys etc. if not, we will have arranged a hiding place. Interaction with GuestsUsually we will be near by if you need us -- either in the bunk house, or on our boat, right out there in the Bay. We're innkeepers by profession in Puerto Rico ( lafinca caribe) . After 20 years of inn-keeping, we know how to be around as much, or as little as you want. The NeighborhoodPlease be respectful to our neighbors with noise. If you are outside after ten, we ask that you keep things relatively quiet.
