The Space20 minutes north of town, 1 exit from navitat ropes course! This sweet cozy cabin sits at the back of 3 acres in north Weaverville. The cabin sits at the bottom of a hill, behind a farmhouse built in 1917. This cabin was built in 1815, but moved to its current location 4 years ago and rebuilt. I reused every part of the original structure that I could. The square nails were saved to relay the living room floor. The ceilings in the bathroom and kitchen used to be the porch roof. The heart pine floor in the loft used to cover the log walls in the main room. The stone chimney was used for the current foundation. A one bedroom loft upstairs and bathroom with a claw foot tub downstairs, this charming cabin offers relaxation and quiet. There is a simple built-in wooden ladder accessing the loft. The ladder is moderately steep. A large screened in porch gives you complete privacy off the back of the cabin. This cabin comes with a washer and dryer, internet, and cable. The kitchen offers a full size propane stove/oven and a vintage 1950's refrigerator, as well as a automatic coffee pot and all of the cookware you should need. The cabin is heated with a Jotul wood stove and space heater. It is cooled with a portable air conditioner. The cabin is just 2 miles from I26, on a country road. It is peaceful and beautiful. Come step back in time. Guest AccessThe cabin will be ready at 3pm. The door will be unlocked with a key on the desk. Interaction with GuestsI do not live on the property. The SpaceEscape to the serenity of this zen-inspired log home perched high up on a secluded mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southern Appalachia, yet only 25 miles from the cultural hub of Asheville and minutes to the growing arts community of Marshall, college town of Mars Hill, Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, and the popular village of Weaverville. Enjoy the tranquil natural beauty in every season on 13 acres of mountain woodland. In Spring and Summer the terraced gardens and walking paths are in bloom, lush and often alive with countless butterflies. Autumn brings the spectacular fall foliage that the Blue Ridge Mountains are known for. And winter turns this 3500+ ft. elevation property into a snowy winter wonderland complete with a sledding hill and plenty of room to play in the snow. A picturesque old tobacco barn provides the backdrop for this incredible property. The grounds include terraced woodland gardens that were professionally designed and featured in Southern Living magazine in 2011. Walking paths criss-cross the gardens and take you to private areas to sit, mediate and relax next to the cascading waterfall spring-fed stream. A fire pit, hammock, chairs and benches all await you. Take in the gorgeous scenery of long-range mountain views from the wrap around deck, or hike up to the ridge line for an even more spectacular view. (Please note this hike can be difficult to traverse due to overgrowth in summer, and is more readily accessible in Fall through Spring) Centered around a central atrium, this zen-inspired home was built with tranquility and peacefulness in mind. High, vaulted open-beamed ceilings abound with skylights in every room to bring in loads of natural sunlight. The large gourmet kitchen is outfitted with a double oven, granite counter tops, center island and comes with stainless steel Cuisinart cookware and an eclectic mix of antique dishes and Mason jars for glassware. The dining area offers an antique farm table with reclaimed wood bench and French-back antique chairs with seating for up to 7. The cozy family room opens via french doors to a large sunny West-facing deck with outdoor living space and additional dining table for four, complete with long-range mountain views to the West and barn, garden and stream views to the North. The two bedrooms also enjoy vaulted open-beam ceilings with skylights and french door access to the wrap around deck with rocking chairs to sip your morning coffee and enjoy the view. The second bedroom also includes a sleeping loft perfect for a family with children. All three beds are Queen-sized, offering sleeping space for up to six people comfortably. You may not want to leave, but if you do, you can enjoy the richness of the Southern Appalachian culture that is plentiful in this region. Visit the nearby local, organic family farms and farmer's markets of Madison County or catch a play or musical at the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theater. Dance to live bluegrass or blues at Zuma's coffeehouse in town, and enjoy some regional fare from any of the many restaurants focused on local ingredients and "slow food". Asheville, complete with its wonderful restaurants, shopping, arts district, craft brews, and culture is only a short drive away, as is the infamous Blue Ridge Parkway, and naturally heated mineral springs at Hot Springs. For adventure seekers, you can raft the French Broad River, horseback ride, zip line, hike the Appalachian Trail, ski or snowboard at Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, and much more. Venturing slightly further you can visit the Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock, Sliding Rock and Cherokee ... the possibilities are endless. Yoga mats and reading materials available onsite, including local and regional tourism books and other resources. Family friendly with games and arts and crafts for children. We folded to pressure and added a TV with Blu-ray DVD player and a collection of DVDs. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own DVDs if a movie night is something you would like while visiting. We will also consider pets upon request. Please inquire. This property is truly a wonderful and incredibly unique place to stay and relax or use as a home base to explore Western North Carolina and Appalachia. We hope you enjoy your stay! Interaction with GuestsThe home is a second home. It is used only seasonally by our family and shared with others who will love and appreciate the unique beauty of this very special place just as we do. Your stay will be private, with no one else on the premises. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do! The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is rural and mountainous with small family-run organic farms and dairies in the area. Properties in the immediate area are on large acreages not visible from the home. The Zen Mountain House is very private and secluded. Getting AroundThere is about a half-mile of gravel road to access the home that is just slightly steep with two switch-backs. This is not a problem at all most of the year so long as you drive cautiously, but in the winter months (primarily the later half of December through February) four-wheel drive or tire chains is recommended in case of snow or icy conditions.
