The Virginia Museum of Natural History, and Piedmont Arts Museum are just a mile away.
It's less than five miles to the Martinsville Speedway, the Ridgeway Industrial Park, and the Beaver Creek Industrial Park.
Please be careful driving along the street, as there are young children in the neighborhood who sometimes bike and play in the street.
For fabulous day trips, visit the nearby beautiful rivers, lakes, and mountains. Check out Fairy Stone State Park, Philpott Lake, Smith River, Dan River, Mayo River, Beaver Creek Reservoir, Lake Lanier. Consider kayaking, swimming, fishing or hiking along the edges of these beautiful bodies of water!
The Blue Ridge Mountains can be seen from uptown, with destinations like Mabry's Mill Restaurant, Chateau Morrisette Winery, Lovers Leap, antique stores, and fabulous views all year long! Getting AroundThere is a local public bus service in operation Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost to ride is 50 cents, and exact change is required. The closest bus stop to The Highland House is a mile away at the Virginia Museum of Natural History.
There is an Enterprise car rental site just a few miles away at
717 Memorial Blvd, which is north on Hwy 220. Other Things to NoteIf you have allergies, you might consider that we have sometimes rented to pet owners. There may be dampness in the basement if there have been heavy rains.
We supply our guests with detergent (dish washing liquid, laundry soap, bath soap) and paper products, such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and tissues. If you use any of them all up and need more, please note this for your grocery shopping list.
