There are many tourist attractions and state parks within a 60 mile radius of this location. High Falls State Park is 30 miles to the east and 25 miles to the west is beautiful Sprewell Bluff State Park, both featuring natural beauty.
The Rock is one of those "blink and you miss it" kind of southern towns with a rich history and lovely people. Hwy 36 (Barnesville Hwy) provides a direct route to I75 (20 miles to the east), Hwy 41 (5 miles to the east) and Hwy 19 (7 miles to the west). Two charming communities are near enough for quick provisions or dining. Thomaston, Georgia is 7 miles to the west and features a restored and wonderful old-fashioned, 1 screen downtown movie theater "The Ritz" and has a Wal-Mart, Home Depot and restaurants. Barnesville Georgia (the buggy capitol of the south) is college town with a quaint historic downtown area offering local restaurants and shops. Large antebellum style homes on a tree-lined main street with sidewalks lead you into to town. The Rock, Georgia, itself, has a post office, a few churches and not even a traffic light. Our town exists because Hwy 36 used to be the Old Federal Stage Coach Route and the stage would deliver mail to the doctor who built a house on our property in the early 1800's. "put my mail in the hole in that rock" is what our good doctor advised the stage coach driver to do. For the next 100 years mail was deposited in a large granite rock and when the road was widened and a the rock destroyed - a post office had to built and a town named to catch all the mail coming to "the rock". Farmland and open skies in a secure and peaceful rural setting. That's our location.
