The SpaceA unique and spacious wood cabin built by my brother with a beautiful cathedral ceiling, ceiling fan, large upper loft and two private bedrooms with two bathroom located on a very special red pine bluff. The lake has cabins only along one shoreline, limiting lake use; boats are either canoes, kayaks or fishing boats. Pocomoonshine Lake is located in the more remote NE corner of Maine. The kitchen is large and well stocked, including large pot and utensils for a lobster feed after a scenic day trip to the Maine coast. We love Cutler Harbor where the Little Lobster Company lets you choose your lobster fresh out of the salt water. We will provide you with a map of the lake, including favorite fishing reef/holes and a lovely boat trip through a main stream with lily pads and pickerel weed that meanders through 3 other lakes (2 pristine lakes and a larger lake with scattered cabins), a wildlife refuge, Canada or Maine coast nearby...or simply relax on the front porch watching the sunset, listening to loon songs and calls, fishing/swimming off the dock or rocky shoreline and observe wildlife (eagles, moose, loons, beaver, mink, kingfisher, hummingbirds). You are welcome to bring a fishing boat--public landing just down the road and private dock is yours. Dock chairs available for use. Boat cushions available, but bring your own lifejackets. Hammock, lakeside front porch, table games and TV with VCR for movies. Beach towels, bath towels, linens, soap, dishwasher are provided. A laundromat close by. Water at the cabin is lake water and needs boiling before drinking. We will provide two large containers of drinking water and highly recommend bringing further drinking water. Cabin is available June through September. June has great fishing but is "buggy"...black fly season. July and August provide all the best of summer (August is usually blueberry season!) and September is beautiful ...part summer/part fall with leaves beginning to turn the end of the month. Woodstove and fire wood for cooler days. Guest AccessOur property managers live down the road and are available to help with any needs you may have. You are also welcome to call me with any questions or concerns. A description of key access will be provided to allow you to move in upon your arrival. We ask you do not access the small upper loft, as the stairs are very steep. Please use paths on the property to preserve the plant life. We regret no dogs or pets allowed. We know you will appreciate the beauty of our woods. The NeighborhoodThere are numerous nesting pairs of loons on the lake, which indicates the pristine water and beauty of the sights and sounds of a true pristine Maine lake. Neighbors on either side are not there all summer, giving you a quiet, private and relaxing experience. Getting AroundWe will leave a guest book describing where to get groceries, fishing gear and other amenities. The town of Woodland and Calais both have grocery stores and restaurants. Randy's Variety is very closeby on Rt. 9 for basic groceries, movie rentals and fishing worms. A shuttle is available from the Bangor Airport if you are flying in and renting a car. Other Things to NoteIf you choose to have a fire in the outdoor fire pit, it is essential to have a water bucket available and someone always in attendance. Fully extinguish the fire before leaving, with coals cool to the touch. Please do not have a fire if it is windy, as the fire risk is too high!

Large cottage located on beautiful, crystal clear Cathance Lake in Downeast Maine. The front of the cottage is only eight feet from the water's edge. Quiet spot, last cottage on the road, no through traffic. The side of the cottage shown in the picture borders a spring fed brook, the front faces the main lake. The brook side has no more than 2 1/2 - 3 feet of water, and a sandy bottom. Excellent swimming for children. There is a good size lawn with horseshoe pits and an outside fireplace, and plenty of room to relax, sunbathe, etc. On the front side of the cottage, the water is deep enough to bring a boat or jet ski up to the dock. Leave the windows open at night and let the loon calls lull you to sleep, or maybe indulge your inner child and catch some fireflies. There is no size or bag limit on small mouth bass in Cathance, and you can catch all you want right off the dock. Or if you have a boat, you might try fishing for land-locked salmon, and if you're lucky maybe a nice brook trout. If your taste is seafood, you won't have to travel far. You can purchase it fresh at the store or buy it direct off the boat. You can also go to a restaurant and let them prepare it any way you like. The inside of the cottage is finished in knotty pine. There is a full kitchen with all pots, pans, utensils, full-size electric stove and fridge. There is a full bathroom which includes an old-fashioned claw foot tub with a shower. There is one downstairs bedroom with a full-size bed. The upstairs has two bedrooms overlooking the lake, each with a full-size bed. There is also one more large room upstairs with a full and two twin beds. We have to strictly limit the total number of guest to a maximum of 8. Our number one recommendation for activities is just to enjoy the lake and the cottage, but if you feel the need to explore the area get up early enough for a 40-minute drive to Lubec, Maine (eastern most point in the US) and watch the sunrise at the famous West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and enjoy its rugged coastline hiking trails. Once done in Lubec, just across the Roosevelt International Bridge is Campabello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. Activities on Campabello include a tour of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Historic Cottage, whale-watching, 18-hole golf course, East Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and a ferry which goes to Deer Isle, Grand Manan Isle and Eastport. In the other direction, a 2 hour drive will take you to beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine, where activities include among many, many others, Acadia National Park, ocean kayaking, biking, hiking, miniature golf, go-carts, restaurants and shops. We are also located appx. 25 miles from the Calais, Maine/ St. Stephen N.B. International Bridge. Tourist information bureaus are located in both towns. This border crossing can take you to St. Andrew's by-the-sea, King's Landing, St. John, or any other place you feel like exploring. A word about getting here. Fly into Bangor, Maine and rent a car for a 2-hour drive down Rt 9. Or if you are more adventurous, take an extra day and fly into Boston and rent a car to drive up US Rt 1 through quaint coastal towns including Camden and Rockland among others, see Old Orchard Beach, the city of Portland, and the home of LL Bean and many other outlet stores - Freeport, ME. Property has its own sandy beach extending far into the lake (one of few natural freshwater beaches in Maine). Year round residence built in 2003 has right to use adjacent 300+ acres of conservation land private to neighborhood. Kayaks equipped for four paddlers (one double and two singles). When the property came up for sale many years later, she and her husband Rob bought it. Working with a local conservation group, the character of the land has been preserved, but now the beach is a short walk away - and private to their property. It's a very quiet spot, and remains, to many, the loveliest spot on the lake. Great swimming and boating. Gas grill and picnic table, hammock and beach chairs on beach.
