The SpaceI've spent the past 3 years remodeling to upgrade most of our home but it is not fancy. Nearly everything is new aside from 1 bathroom I have left to remodel. We aim to make it feel as much as a home away from home as possible. A place where people feel comfortable in a laid back atmosphere. I have been hosting for 7 years before coming to airbnb. I have had guests from India, China, Canada, England, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Africa, and Australia over the years and can easily adjust meals to fit with a variety of ethnic backgrounds when needed.
The guest room has a full size bed, desk with lamp, 32" 1080p TV with DVR, mini fridge stocked with bottled water and iced tea, Keurig personal brewer with variety of k cups and creamers. We have most premium cable TV channels including HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, Encore, and Epix and more.
Living room has a coffee bar, fireplace, 48" 1080p smart TV with DVR and Wii game system. The smart TV in the living room has access to Youtube, Pandora, and a number of other apps.
Kitchen always has things available on the table to snack on, Washer and dryer you're free to use, fridge with water and ice dispenser, and usually some leftovers if you're hungry and want something other than the fruits and baked goods on the table between the breakfast and dinner provided. (During the summer months the fruits and breads can be found in the refrigerator)
There is a basket of trial sized items in the guest room in case you may have forgotten something like toothpaste, deodorant, or a toothbrush. There are also small bars of soap for those who prefer a bar over body wash.
There are many different types of body wash, shampoo, face wash, and conditioner in the bathroom you're welcome to use as well as laundry soap and fabric softener in the closet off the kitchen on the washer and dryer.
The pool is open 8 am to 10 pm.
As mentioned before we want guests to feel comfortable. We do NOT care if you want to take food up to your room or into the living room to be comfortable eating while watching a movie or something. I clean every part of the bedding and carpet between each guest from shampooing the carpet to washing the pillows. I've purchased the American made My Pillow in order to withstand the constant washing as well as having adjustable stuffing to suit both those who prefer a fluffy pillow and those who prefer a flatter pillow.
As the air conditioner is on it's last legs it will not keep up to July and August heat if any windows are open. It is roughly 76 degrees in the house with the air running and all windows closed.
Although we do allow smoking it is to be kept to the common areas downstairs only where there is better ventilation and also where I am able to clean more without disturbing guests privacy. The living room carpet is shampooed at least once a week as well as after any smoking guest or guest with a pet has stayed. The leather couches are also wiped down weekly or after any smoking guest or guest with pets in order to ensure those things don't affect anyone with allergies. Our dog is a hypoallergenic breed and shouldn't affect anyone's allergies. Guest AccessGuests have access to everything but our own personal bedroom. We want guests to feel comfortable here like they're staying with family.
There are always juices, milk, and sodas in the fridge that you're welcome to at any time. We keep a variety of fruit as well as homemade bread on the kitchen table that you are also welcome to at any time. ( Fruit and breads can be found in the refrigerator during summer months) There are also at least a dozen different kinds of tea in the kitchen.
The coffee bar in the living room has French roast coffee, espresso, chicory, and coconut coffees, a variety of syrups to make flavored coffees, frothers to make the creamed topping from any of the varieties of milk in the fridge (almond milk, 2%, or soy milk) I will make something for you if you'd like and I'm not busy or you're welcome to help yourself. There are recipe books for coffees on the bar. Interaction with GuestsI work from home and am almost always here working, cooking, or cleaning. Due to the types of meals I serve I'm usually in and out of the kitchen most of the day. I have owned a restaurant in the past and absolutely love to cook. I take pride in the meals I provide.
Upon arrival there will be wine, cheese, and some other appetizer waiting for you. Dinner is always a full dinner with soup and/or salad, side dish, entree, and sometimes a dessert. If you have any food restrictions please let me know and I can adjust what I'm serving to meet a variety of dietary restrictions due to religion or health issue such as diabetes. I do not do all organic foods or gluten free but can meet most dietary restrictions. We buy everything we possibly can locally to provide the best quality foods we can as well as give an experience of what Wisconsin has to offer. As my other half has a love of anything with beer and cheese in it and Wisconsin is known for both so there is always some form of beer and cheese upon arrival. If the rate seems a little higher than others in the area please keep in mind the rate includes meals and other things not provided by others. Dinners often include steak, crab, lobster, or salmon and once in a while a surf and turf of either steak and crab or steak and lobster.
We are fine with either socializing with you in or out of the house or leaving you to have privacy. I work from home and other than meal times and cooking am usually in my bedroom. My other half will spend most of the daytime hours studying at the library and is barely noticeable although sociable and polite.
Wines come from Cedar Creek Winery in Cedarburg Wisconsin (a cute little town to visit)
All our salmon and trout comes from Silver Moon Springs in Elton Wisconsin.
All of our different flavors of raw honeys and real maple syrup comes from John and Lorraine's Hobby in Random Lake Wisconsin.
All of our homemade jams, pickles, and other pickled items come from the Kooky Kanner in Brown Deer Wisconsin.
Fresh produce is purchased from farmers markets. Cheese is purchased from farmers markets and Cedar Creek Winery.
Beers are made by a variety of Wisconsin breweries and sodas are made by Sprecker brewery.
Bacon and other pork products come from Patrick Cudahy in Cudahy Wisconsin
By the end of summer we hope to get to the point of getting all of our eggs, beef, chicken, and other products from local farmers as well.
I bake the breads myself as well as making homemade yogurt and custard. In Wisconsin custard is a creamier version of ice cream rather than the pudding it is in many other places.
Entrees for dinner can be anything from lasagna to lobster thermidor. I generally have something planned but if you have a food allergy or dietary restriction I always have a second option available I could make. Breakfast is a full breakfast of your choice. Waffles, pancakes, eggs any style, omelets, bacon, ham, sausage, hash browns, yogurt, French toast, etc. Just let me know what time you'd like breakfast and what you'd like and I will have it ready in the morning. I will serve dinner at the time of your choosing up to 7:30 PM. Please let me know what time you'd like to eat at least a few hours in advance so that I can schedule my day to fit yours.
We love meeting new people and learning about different cultures. We are from different cultures ourselves.
Please keep in mind that since meals are provided when you sit down to eat there will likely be dishes in the sink and pots on the stove as they have been used to make the food. I hide everything possible in the dishwasher until guests are sleeping or gone for the day to wash when nobody is around but there is no way to not have some of these things visible without discontinuing serving meals or lowering the quality by making things earlier and reheating in order to have nothing on the stove or counter. The NeighborhoodOur home is off the beaten path nowhere near the downtown activities. I chose our home due to the quiet and safety of the area. Our home is close enough to the Cedarburg Winery for a day trip through the small town. I am also close to the I45 freeway and it's not to all that far for a trip to the zoo or for those working at Froedert Hospital. I chose our home for the quiet and safety of the neighborhood. The only thing within reasonable walking distance is the championship golf course located behind the condo complex. The neighborhood is on the far north west corner of Milwaukee bordering Menominee Falls, Mequon, and nearby to Brown Deer suburbs. Getting AroundOur home is not a realistic stay for those who do not either have a car or use uber. Although there is a city bus it only runs weekdays during prime business hours. Other Things to NoteWe do have a small dog. He's very friendly and absolutely loves it when he has other little dogs stay as guests! Many different teas, coffee, juice, fruit, and breads are available for you in the kitchen at any time. I stop serving at 7:30 PM but you are more than welcome to help yourself after that. There is a 15 lb weight limit for dogs due to condo association rules so please do not reserve if you'd be planning on bringing a dog much larger than that. I'm not about to weigh your dog so if it at least looks under 20 lbs it's fine.
